2003 Bruichladdich 15 Year Old "Valinch & Mallet" #18-1501 Singel Madeira Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch (750ml)

SKU #1436968

Valinch & Mallet descend from a long tradition of Italian bottlers of fine single malt and rum. This tradition, one of the first outside of Scotland to truly value the unique and sublime potential that single cask spirits offer, is becoming the norm for highly engaged consumers around the world. The two men who founded the company, Fabrio Ermoli and David Romano, came together from two very different professions over this common passion. This shared belief that selecting a single cask is not a science, but in fact art. It's an expression of one's tastes and creative exercises that falls outside of what man can objectively measure. With that ethic as their guide, the two have created a line of non-chill-filtered, single casks with the goal of highlighting each distillery's true character and offering them with as little influence on their part as possible. This unusual barrel of Bruichladdich was aged for 15 years in an ex-madeira butt. Intense, earthy, flinty malt aromatics (some might say sulphur) balanced by the tangy sweet fruit and creamy richness of the Madeira. This is a true funky bomb and not an unusual result from a Madeira butt. A very unique experience.

Always exciting to find whisky aged in Madeira butts. Here the sweet wine imparts a warm, juicy profile of ripe red apple and baking spice to complement the woodsy smoke of the malt. Blood orange, banana, and creme brulee accompany a rich, smooth texture to form the base of this addictive dram. A tinge of flint and iodine give sufficient counterpoint to the decadent entry, culminating in a delightful resolve that brings me back to the glass for sip after sip.
