2018 Ojai Vineyard California Rosé

SKU #1421023 Vinous

The 2018 Rosé is very pretty and inviting, with soft curves and tons of appeal. Bright floral notes perk up a core of berry fruit in this fresh, gracious Rosé. This is an especially fine edition of the Ojai Rosé. The 23018 is mostly Syrah and Carignan, with dollops of Grenache and Riesling. (AG) (9/2019)

K&L Notes

Winery notes: In this 2018 bottling we have equal parts Syrah and Carignan with the same smidge of dry Riesling we’ve incorporated for years (for a little more twang and aromatic drive). Our approach with Rosé is uncompromising; only fruit grown to be Rosé is used (never any juice bled off from riper red wine lots), and it’s whole-cluster pressed into neutral French oak barrels just like all of our white wines. This ensures a thirst slaking and food-friendly feel, but with the textural richness and integration that barrel aging provides.

Few winemakers in California have more experience making wine than the legendary Adam Tolmach. With 30+ years under his belt he’s got a pretty good idea of how things get done. As one of the founders of the Rhone Rangers movement, Adam is a pioneer of working with Rhone varietals. This stunningly glorious rosé is one of the finest from California. This is equal parts Syrah and Carignan with a touch of dry Riesling. This is thirst quenching, food friendly, with an essence of cherries, raspberries, and a faint hint of minerality. Easily a candidate for rosé of the vintage.

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
