 The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is showing well, opening in the glass with aromas of crisp green apple, citrus oil, white flowers, pastry cream and smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and powerful, with a deep core of ripe fruit, bright acids and saline finish. Looking for Chablis? This is the wine you should buy. La Chablisienne is a co-op that works with many small growers in the area, and the fruit quality here is top notch. Montee de Tonnerre is widely seen as the "almost" grand cru of Chablis, and in this wine that quality shines through in abundance. Yes, its from a slightly cooler vintage, but that only adds to the classic crisp, chalky character of this Chablis. A beautiful wine, with the bones to age and a great price point!

Enough good can not be said about the wines La Chablisienne is producing! the 2016 Montee De Tonnerre was one of my favorite Chablis' that we carried and the 2017 is even more special. Not as tropical of a vintage, the year was plagued by cold weather and hail, but out of those low yields comes something truly special. The nose is flinty with clear notes of apple, a little bit of beeswax, and white blossoms. What I love so much about the wine though is the palate. It maintains a perfect acidity with bright fruit but a rich and round mouth feel. This is a must have! I know I'll be taking it home with me.

This is another tremendous bargain from Chablisienne in a great vintage from one of the region's most cherished sites. Meyer lemon, white stone, and crisp pear aromas lead to a textured but pure palate full of candied lemon rind, fresh stonefruit, and tangy apple. There's a lot in reserve, but it is showing great depth at this stage. It'll be hard to do much better in refined White Burgundy for this kind of price.

When I think about what I want from a 1er Cru Chablis the 2017 La Chablisienne Chablis 1er Cru "Montee de Tonnerre" ticks every box and then some. The nose is electric with aromas of Meyer lemons, crushed oyster shells and orchard fruits. The palate is jumping with zesty acidity, intense citrus flavors and a long, long finish. The Montee de Tonnerre vineyard is but a stone's throw away from the Grand Crus and it shows.

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged. From fresh, crisp and minerally with apple and lemon notes to rich and buttery with tropical fruit overtones, Chardonnay runs the gamut. In France's Burgundy, Chardonnay is the source of the prized wines of Chablis, Corton-Charlemagne, M√Ęcon, Meursault and Montrachet.
