2016 Raymond "Reserve Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $40)

SKU #1391364 92 points Jeb Dunnuck

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a smoking value and has high-quality Cabernet notes of crème de cassis, spice, vanilla bean, and fruitcake-like nuances. It’s charming, sweetly fruited, medium to full-bodied, and certainly already delicious. (1/2019)

91 points James Suckling

This offers a ripe array of blackcurrants and attractive, violet-like florals, leading to a palate that has a suave, rich and ripe feel and delivers a spice-laced finish. Drink or hold. (11/2018)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 1% Petite Sirah, aged for 20 months in 38% new French oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve is deep garnet-purple in color. Just bottled last week, it's already showing open and expressive blackberries, blackcurrant and warm plums notes with touches of tobacco leaf and underbrush plus a waft of menthol. The palate is medium to full-bodied with lovely freshness and vibrancy, textured with plush tannins and finishing with a menthol lift. 20,776 cases produced. (LPB) (10/2018)

90 points Wine & Spirits

This is the kind of simple, clearly stated varietal cabernet that’s rare today in Napa Valley. It’s not ambitious or aggressively extracted, just firmly defined in its juicy tannins and red-currant undertones. Smoke, coffee and cherry-compote flavors emerge with air, though the best thing about the wine remains its silky texture. (2/2019)

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is plump, forward and juicy, all of which add to the wine's considerable near and medium-term appeal. Sweet tobacco, cedar, menthol, licorice and ripe red cherry fruit are nicely pushed forward in an attractive, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon that offers terrific quality for the money. Drink it over the next handful of years. (AG) (12/2018)

Wine Spectator

A relatively fresh and direct style, with a good beam of cassis and cherry compote flavors racing through, lined with light vanilla, cedar and tobacco accents. A touch taut on the finish. Best from 2020 through 2025. (JM, Web Only-2019)

K&L Notes

Winery notes: The grapes are sourced from our organic and Biodynamic vineyards in Rutherford, as well as select vineyards on the hillsides of Napa with the balance coming from the heart of Napa Valley. The wine was aged 19 months in 100% French oak, of which, 38% was new. The final blend includes small amounts of Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Petite Sirah for added depth and complexity.
