2017 Château de L'Ou Côtes du Roussillon Rouge

SKU #1388672 90 points Wine Enthusiast

Soft scents of pressed carnation, plum skin, game meat and curing spice form the nose of this Syrah-Grenache blend. The palate is smooth and creamy at first, but then offers firmly structured tannins that carry through to the dry, gripping close. Ripe fruit flavors abound, with spicy waves of blackberry, plum and boysenberry all dancing through the close. *Best Buy* (LB) (10/2019)

The base red from this estate is the 2017 Côtes du Roussillon Château De L'Ou, a mix of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre brought up all in stainless steel tanks. A good value, it boasts a deep purple/ruby color as well as loads of berry fruits, violets, and peppery notes. Medium-bodied, easy drinking, and undeniably delicious, drink it over the coming couple of years. (11/2018)

The nose is seductive, simple yet so real, swirling aromatics of fresh fruit, but fresh fruit not candied or cooked. On the palate this wine is just amazingly rejuvenating, so easy, so balanced, so full of flavor it's a pleasure to drink. The finish is balanced, shows lots of bright red fruit....I just noticed this wine is $11.99, OMG, this is way too good for this price point, such a pleasurable experience to drink.

An absolutely delicious bottle of wine, I enjoyed this last night with a group of friends, only after telling them the price. They had all guessed multiples of the actual amount, and it's no wonder with how talented of winemakers they are at Chateau de L'Ou. Rich and supple, but not syrupy, this Cotes Du Roussillon is the answer for rotisserie chicken, or pot roast. Tons of fruit framed by smoke and vanilla, this is my new house wine and is definitely worth taking a chance on.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
