Barbadillo "Solear" Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda

SKU #1363315 92 points Wine & Spirits

Don't be put off by the intensely resinous scent; this is a complex, classic manzanilla, with dark nut notes in the intense flor-driven flavor and a brisk sea-salt edge. Under the flor, hints of lemon zest, dried apple and almonds merge in a delicate balance. Ideal with nothing more than a handful of marcona almonds. (4/2005)

90 points Wine Spectator

Very high-pitched, with bright chalk, chamomile, salt and lemon seed notes. The vigorous finish has serious cut. Drink now. *Top 100 Wines of 2014* (JM) (8/2014)

Jancis Robinson

Six years old. Very pale and slightly greenish. Lively, bready, feather-light on the palate. Super-appetising. So gulpable! Difficult to believe it’s as old as six… 16.5+/20 (9/2016)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The NV Solear Manzanilla is 100% Palomino from the Gibalbin and Santa Lucia vineyards grown on albariza soils, and averaging seven years aging under a veil of flor. The perfumed nose is dominated by roasted almonds, dry flowers (chamomile), bread dough and a whiff of sea breeze. The medium-bodied palate is crisp and penetrating, with a long finish. A subtle Manzanilla, ideal for tapas and sushi. (LG) (8/2013)

Wine Enthusiast

A classic manzanilla with aromas of honey, apple, blanched almonds and salt air. Fresh and exuding clarity not found in every fino or manzanilla. Quite apple-driven on the palate, with hints of mushroom and buttered toast. Flavorful, lithe and on the money. *Best Buy* (MS) (6/2005)

K&L Notes

We are thrilled to welcome Barbadillo's Solear bottling of Manzanilla back into the Sherry section. This long aged (5+ years) Manzanilla is bright and saline, but also richly texture, savory and very much influenced by the flor. Seriously structured Manzanilla for a terrific price!

Wow, it's been a while since I've had this. Perfect nose of powerful flor and dense saltiness. The palate is slightly atypical for Manzanilla since we've got a lot more weight, but the texture is balanced perfectly and there are no edges at all. The fun fabulous wine from Sanlucar are such stupendous values and while you need to be initiated into the flor club to really fall in love, once you catch the bug it's so hard to go back.
