2014 Tronquoy-Lalande, St-Estèphe

SKU #1313570 93 points James Suckling

Another big, dark St.-Estèphe, but in spite of the rich body and some perceptible alcohol, there is also a cool, minty note. Slightly sweet finish in spite of all the tannins. Spice comes through at the end. (2/2017)

Barrel Sample. Fruit forward, this wine shows ripe blackberries and dark plums on the palate. It exudes a richness that is contrasted by intense acidity and lifted fruit flavors. (RV) (4/2015)

92 points Vinous

Just as expressive from bottle as it was from barrel, the 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande is superb. Black cherry, plum, gravel, smoke, savory herbs, licorice and expressive floral notes abound in a rich, deeply textured Saint-Estèphe that will drink well with minimal cellaring. The plush, textured finish only adds to the wine's considerable appeal. Drink this pliant, expressive Saint-Estèphe over the next 15-20 years or more. This is a stellar showing. The blend is 56 % Merlot, 37 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 6 % Petit Verdot and 1 % Cabernet Franc. Tasted three times. (AG) (2/2017)

From the owners of Château Montrose, the 2014 Tronquoy Lalande is a beautifully ripe, pure, nicely concentrated, and classic wine from this estate that literally screams “Saint-Estèphe” in its dark currant and cassis fruits and notes of damp earth, tobacco, and underbrush. With a medium-bodied, reserved feel on the palate, it certainly has the 2014 vintage’s elegant, balanced style, as well as nicely integrated acidity and polished tannin. It doesn’t have the wow factor of the 2015 and 2016, but is a beautiful wine none the less that should blossom with 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for a decade or more. (11/2017)

90 points Decanter

From the same team as Château Montrose, this is always a great wine, full of finesse and drama. This is very good quality, with a lovely rich, deep texture with sexy, ripe fruit. The alcohol is perhaps the highest of the appellation in this vintage, but it's balanced. 1% Cabernet Franc rounds out the blend. (JA) (5/2018)

90 points Wine Spectator

A pure, racy version, with an iron-edged frame that keeps the red currant and damson plum fruit very focused. Mouthwatering tobacco and wet pebble accents are inlaid on the pleasantly austere finish. Well done. (JM, Web only-2017)

Jancis Robinson

Tasted blind. Nuanced, deep crimson. Rich and sweet with zest, but above all, lots of freshness. Very dry finish again. Needs lots of time. (JR) (2/2018)

An altogether lovely wine! The blend is slightly more Merlot dominate in this vintage, which adds to the silky texture and the lovely black-fruit perfume. Although this wine is still on the young side for drinking, it has all the components in place, and will undoubtedly prove the quality of this Chateau with a little extra time in the cellar.

You need to dig deep into this deep and creamy wine to find the St-Estephe firmness buried underneath the plush blackberry and rich cherry fruit. Although opulent enough to enjoy tonight the serious structure holding this together will reward the patient collector.

A classic Left-Bank Bordeaux nose of dark fruits, notably of plum and black currants, along with leather, violets, and gravel. Dark fruit dominates the palate profile as well, with blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry flavors exuding themselves. Stony, gravelly minerality and slight hints of dried thyme on the finish. Broad tannins and an elevated acidity make this wine a very nice choice as a holiday food wine; think roast leg of lamb, prime rib, or Beef Wellington. It is preferable to decant this wine for at least 30 minutes - 1 hour prior to serving for maximum enjoyment
