2014 Von Strasser Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1287122 92 points James Suckling

Attractive currant and berry character with flower and fresh herb undertones. Medium body, fine tannins and a delicious finish. Subtle and supple. (5/2017)

92 points Wine & Spirits

The deep richness of oak aging comes first, though the succulence of the wine comes through without a lot of coaxing. This is a sleek Diamond Mountain Cabernet with lasting strawberry-and-plum-fruit sweetness, a bright ping of red fruit that shows no trace of hyperripeness. Gentle and fresh, this is a Cabernet that won’t overpower roast duck, and will add depth to roast venison. (10/2017)

An icon of Napa’s Diamond Mountain District, Rudy von Strasser is known for his expressive yet beautifully balanced winemaking. During the spectacular run of superb Napa vintages from 2012-2016, the finessed and detailed Cabernets of 2014 stand out for their poise and focus. This is no exception as rich black cherry, plum, and mission fig flavors are tied together with impressive elegance. The wine is rounded out with pretty oak spice, tobacco, peppercorn, mocha, and toffee tones. Very well-priced and already drinking extraordinarily well, this should gain additional harmony and complexity over the next 10 years.
