2008 Laurent-Perrier Brut—A Champagne for the Ages - 12/06/2019 - Champagne

The 2008 vintage produced some of the best Champagnes in a lifetime. Expansive, expressive, and full of vim and vigor, they are resplendent expressions that never fail to delight. It should come as little surprise then that Laurent-Perrier, one of the grand marque houses, produced an outlandishly good bottling that is in the running for best ever from this estate. Our Champagne, Gary Westby, fell hard for this 2008, proclaiming: “The greatest vintage Champagne that I have ever had from Laurent-Perrier!” Such effusive praise is well warranted and is a testament to the brilliant work being done by chef de cave Michel Fauconnet. A premier bottling from a top Champagne house could easily command a price well into the $100s, but we are able to offer this gorgeous 2008 for a shockingly low price of $69.99. This is a bargain for a wine of this pedigree and caliber. If you’ve yet to experience the pure joy that is 2008 Champagne, then you own it to yourself to add this 96-point charmer to your collections. Pop a cork now and cellar a few bottles away to enjoy over the course of the next two decades. You will be rewarded every time.

2008 Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne ($69.99)

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "While still young, this Champagne has all the makings of greatness. Produced from grand cru vineyards, it already balances ripe white fruits with a firm structure that will age well. Its relatively dry and has plenty of acidity, which will also aid in the longevity.. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (12/2019)

K&L Notes: This all Grand Cru blend, which is composed of 50% each Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, is the best I have ever tasted from Laurent-Perrier, and should go the distance if you decide to cellar it. Don't miss this fantastic example of the best vintage in a generation! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

This gorgeous vintage brut by Laurent-Perrier has been much anticipated, as it was released behind other grand marques, with reason. 2008 is a sharp, tightly-wound vintage, and while it will prove to be one of the best in years, the wines benefit from a bit longer aging. This has more chalk than we usually see expressed in L-Ps Champagnes, thanks to 50% Chardonnay, although there is a rich undertone of berried Pinot Noir as well. Fresh with minerality and complex through the palate, the 2008 Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne also shows an extraordinarily long, dry (8g dosage) finish. I was a big fan of their 2007 release, but this vintage outshines even that beauty.

The greatest vintage Champagne that I have ever had from Laurent-Perrier! I first tasted this in Tours-sur-Marne with chef de cave Michel Fauconnet and filled my notebook up with exclamation points. He said that the job of a vintage wine is to express the year- and he has expressed the 2008- the best vintage in at least a generation- perfectly. This is a Champagne that is all about length, chalky minerality and scintillating refreshment. The finish is nearly infinite on this wine that shows much more like a blanc de blanc in spite of the half Pinot Noir in the blend. Don't miss out on the best vintage ever from one of the great grande marque houses!

This 2008 vintage bottling from Laurent-Perrier hits big with bright citrus, a little fresh dough, Granny Smith apples, and Bartlett pears. The palate is just as bold as the nose boasting bracing acid thats mouth-puckering, crisp apple, and lemon drop candies. Very sexy Champagne.

As a staff we had a chance to taste with our Laurent-Perrier rep not long ago, but at the time they didn't have an '08 for us to try. Given how spectacular the year was an how the other wines were showing I couldn't wait to get my hands on a sample and was not disappointed! A 50/50 split of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and made of entirely Grand Cru fruit the wine shows beautifully with notes of lemon meringue, grapefruit and vanilla. The palate is just the right balance of acid with hints of graham cracker, bright citrus, and a wonderfully long finish. Wine like this will only get better with age so make sure you get some before it's gone!

Quite simply the best Laurent Perrier I've ever tasted, this is exactly what collectors have been promised by the extraordinary 2008 vintage. Happy floral and pom fruit notes on the nose with an complex palete of dark fruit and bread pudding around tight pear and firm minerality. Grand Cru's deliver.

LP has finally released its much anticipated 2008 vintage champagne and it is as delicious as expected! It has beautiful floral elements on the nose, bright pear, green apple and cherry fruit notes, vibrant minerals and the bright acidity that is a hallmark of the vintage. Vintage Champagne collectors wont want to miss out on this one!

This is a lovely Champagne. All Grand Cru grapes, 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. A classic style in a great vintage, what could you ask for more?!
