2015 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "Lovely black-cherry, lavender and rose-petal character on the nose. Full body and firm, tight tannins that add structure and depth. Extremely long and intense. Excellent." (09/2019)

2015 La Massa "Giorgio Primo" Toscana
Top Pick!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine blew my mind. The 2015 Giorgio Primo is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. I'm told that the percentage of Merlot will increase in 2016 (to a majority role) but will diminish by a large margin in 2017 because that hot vintage was so difficult on early-ripening varieties. The bouquet is nothing short of explosive, with inky black fruit followed by pencil shaving, chalkboard, wet river stone and all the other beautiful mineral notes that I so closely associate with Panzano in Chianti....

93 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed, this red features ripe black cherry, blackberry, black currant, violet, iron, loamy earth and sanguine aromas and flavors. More approachable than its peers at this stage, with fine structure, if a little less density. Long finish. Drink now through 2032. (BS)" (07/2019)

Monica Larner writes: "One of the oldest estates in the Langhe, Fratelli Barale was founded in 1870, shortly after the Barolo denomination was created with the help of Marchesi Falletti and founding father of modern Italy, Count of Cavour, Camillo Benso. Sergio Barale and his daughters manage the estate today. The various expressions of Barolo are all aged from two to three years in botte grande."

Antinori however sees the potential for quality at an exceptional price and with their incredible base of knowledge and skilled winemakers they have crafted some unique and delicious wines. 2016 La Massa "La Massa" Toscana
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "This shows some really impressive, herbal complexity, spanning a whole spectrum of rosemary and pine needles, before tile, crushed stones, blackcurrants and bay leaves enter the picture. The polish to the firm yet generous tannins captivates, as does the precision to the acidity and long finish. " (07/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 La Massa is a terrific blend of 65% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon available at an accessible price. Alicante Bouschet was used in the blend until last ...

2016 La Fortuna "Magnus" Sant'Antimo Rosso
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "Attractive currants and berries with hints of walnuts and cedar. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish." (06/2019) K&L Notes: 40% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Petit Verdot.

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Rose, wild berry and leather aromas mingle with menthol and a whiff of truffle. The firmly structured, focused palate delivers ripe Marasca cherry, star anise and game alongside taut, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Best 2022-2028. (KO)" (10/2019) 93 points Vinous: "Barale's 2016 Barbaresco Serraboella is gorgeous. Rich, translucent and super-expressive, the 2016 has so much to offer. Macerated cherry, plum, lavender, spice, sage and new leather are all vibrant in the glass. Medium in body and plaint, the 2016 is a ...

2015 Castello di Banfi "Poggio alle Mura" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
97 points James Suckling: "This is a pure and beautiful Brunello with super fine and abundant tannins that are comprehensive and expansive. Builds on the palate. Full body. Round and firm with beautiful fruit and length. Lively and vivid. From organically grown grapes. Needs a year or two to soften, but already gorgeous." (10/2019)

2016 La Monacesca "Mirum" Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: " A complex, quite flinty verdicchio with a ton of citrus fruit and pears and a rather succulent but not heavy palate. In fact, the finish has a nice lightness of touch and some real finesse. Drink now." (08/2018) K&L Notes: The Matelica region of the Marche is one of the most unique growing zones in all of Italy; it is a north-south valley in the middle of the Apennine mountain range that once was a salt lake. The orientation of the valley closes it off from the warm coastal waters (the opposite of the west coast of the US) a...

92 points Decanter: "Luca Brunelli runs this 15ha family estate on the outskirts of Montalcino, producing a Brunello and this lovely Rosso. It's an excellent price for the quality, showing firm tannins and exotic spice from the nine months in Slavonian barrels and French barriques. This is fleshed out by ripe black cherry fruit and lifted by brisk acidity. Tina Gellie" (09/2018)

91 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dried red fruit, cedar and tobacco on the nose. Quite resolved on the palate now with drying tannins, but enough fruit to carry the finish. Drink now." (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Wild-berry, tobacco, clove and truffle aromas mingle with a whiff of oak. Lean and linear, the palate offers dried cherry, orange zest, toast, oak-driven spice and roasted coffee bean alongside close-grained tannins. (KO)" (03/2019)

92 points Vinous: "Deep ruby-red. Very perfumed aromatic nose of sweet spices, red cherry and blueberry. Suave and polished, with a multilayered quality to the fruit and mineral flavors present. Closes long and floral with a welcome nuance of ripeness. (ID)" (08/2019) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Graphite and baking spice aromas wind through rich and ripe boysenberry coulis flavors in this fresh and well-knit red. Medium- to full-bodied and elegant, with fine tannins and accents of brown bread and tangy, iron-laced mineral. (AN)" (10/2019)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Barolo shows classic lines and a beautiful disposition that prizes bright primary fruit and Nebbiolo complexity, especially at this early stage in the wine's evolutionary trajectory. The wine is soft and fruit forward with an immediate drinking style that adds a pretty and accessible element to this straight-shooting Barolo. Here's one for that rib eye you've been waiting for. Drink through 2035. (ML)" (06/2019) 92 points James Suckling: "Sweet, fresh leather, vanilla and dried red-cherry aromas with n...

A blend of 40% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot from a 200-hectare estate with 30 hectares under vine. The property has been owned and managed by Giovanni Ciacci and his family since 1996. The first bottles of Brunello from the Tenuta di Sesta Estate were produced in 1966 by Giuseppe Ciacci, father of current owner. According to the winery, there were only twelve other such producers at the time and, for this reason, the Tenuta di Sesta Estate is recognized as one of the historical estates in the territory of Montalcino.

2016 Sesta di Sopra Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The folks at Sesta di Sopra are releasing this wine later than usual. The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino (with 8,400 bottles made) is a terrific expression that acts and tastes like a full-fledged Brunello. The wine opens slowly in the glass, revealing budding complexity as it does. It shows bright berry intensity with grilled herb, pressed violet and potting soil. The mid-weight finish is elegant and tight. (ML) 90+" (02/2019)

2015 De' Ricci "SorAldo" Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "A pretty, refined red with floral, citrus and plum aromas and flavors. Medium body, fine tannins and a crisp finish. Drink now and enjoy." (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Plum-cake, French oak, rose and leather aromas lift out of the glass. The oak aroma carries over to the palate, along with dried cherry, licorice and espresso. It's rather austere, with tight close-grained tannins that grip the finish. (KO)" (03/2019)

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Beautiful aromas of fragrant blue flower, rose, perfumed berry and dark spice form the nose. Juicy and elegantly structured, the savory focused palate doles out ripe Marasca cherry, black raspberry, licorice and a hint of tobacco. Taut polished tannins provide the framework while fresh acidity lends balance. Drink 2022–2035. (KO)" (02/2019) 93 points James Suckling: "The aromas of lavender, bay leaf, violets and citrus suggest, from the outset, that this is a serious wine. The smooth-edged tannins are very polished and do we...

2015 San Polino "Helichrysum" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
97 points James Suckling: "Ripe boysenberries, tar, chestnuts, orange peel, dried cherries and tobacco. There’s a beautiful interplay between the more subtle, citrus notes and darker red fruit, and nothing’s out of kilt to the ripeness. Lots of powerful tannins take the full-bodied palate by storm, coating the mouth in layers of intense but fragrant red fruit and steamrolling this Brunello to a long, chewy conclusion. This is a contrastive wine, built on the foundation of an intricate, wild tannin backbone, but framed in a vibrant and transparent package...

2015 Castello di Banfi "Poggio alle Mura" Brunello di Montalcino 1.5L (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

2015 Castelli Martinozzi Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "A firm and silky red with plum and berry aromas and flavors. A hint of chocolate powder. Medium to full body. Super integrated tannins and a long, long finish. Such polish. Best ever from here." (09/2019)

2016 Tenuta Argentiera "Argentiera" Bolgheri Superiore
Top Pick!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, and the Cabernet Sauvignon logically feels and tastes most prominent. This is a dark and penetrating Tuscan red that is beautifully elevated, thanks to the extremely elegant and buoyant quality of the aromas. They lift gracefully from the glass with light-footed, almost fleeting character. However, don't underestimate the power and the concentration of the wine, because this vintage delivers both with abundance. I...

2016 Carus Baldéro Chianti Classico
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: "A juicy, very ripe red with plum and currant character. Full body, round, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish that verges on jammy, but is still attractive. Drink now." (07/2019)

2015 Sportoletti "Villa Fidelia" Umbria Rosso
Top Pick!
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Villa Fidelia Rosso is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in barrique for 12 months. This is a sun-drenched and powerful wine (with a noticeable 15% alcoholic content) that delivers rich plummy fruit and thick textural layers. (ML)" (10/2019)

2015 Carus Gaudio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered red with lots of chocolate, berry and wood character. Full and chewy. Yet, the tannins are not harsh or overdone. Give it a year or two to soften. Try in 2020." (09/2018)

2015 Castello di Banfi Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
94 points James Suckling: "So many spices line the nose here including cinnamon, cardamom, aniseed and walnuts. But there’s no shortage of red plums and dried cherries either. Balanced and suave, this is a sophisticated Brunello with a sleek frame of tannins and subtle yet persistent acidity." (10/2019)

This wine is a sterling showcase of what the red Bordeaux varietals can achieve in the moderate climate of northern Italy. 'Bruma' is the Friulian dialect term for the morning fog that blankets the Valle de Isonzo. Made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot grown in pebbly limestone soils high in iron oxide, the Bruma Rosso is aged 18 months in small barriques. Showing red fruit character along characteristic savory notes of leather and espresso bean, it's an outsider's take on classic varietals and a noteworthy food-pairing wine.
Price: $19.99

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Intense aromas of rose, woodland berry, dark spice and an earthy whiff of new leather are some of the aromas you'll find on this fragrant full-bodied red. Boasting ripe fruit and energy, the polished, structured palate doles out juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and white pepper. Firm refined tannins and fresh acidity provide an age-worthy structure. Drink 2022–2035. *Cellar Selection* (KO)" (02/2019) 92 points James Suckling: "Fresh raspberries, citrus, nutmeg and rose petals. The palate is very nicely polishe...

2015 La Fiorita Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
Monica Larner writes in the Wine Advocate: "Currently, the estate consists of four parcels, each with different compositions of limestone clay. The four parcels are La Fiorita, Pian Bossolino, Poggio al Sole and Giardinello, and fruit from each is fermented separately in order to decide which grapes go to the Rosso and which go to the Brunello. In truth, the whole property is registered for the production of Brunello, so the Rosso di Montalcino is in effect a declassified Brunello. The vines average out to be about 20 years old." (01/2019)
Price: $29.99

The Mothia winery is in the most westerly portion of Sicily in the city of Marsala. This 100% Nero d'Avola comes from a vineyard whose toes touch the Mediterranean, giving it a bit of saline character. The winery produces both whites and reds as well as Marsala.

2015 Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: " Boysenberry crumble, black raspberries, licorice, treacle tart, forest floor and iron shavings are out in style. There’s pretty crunchiness to the acidity and the tannins have a chalky, spicy feel. Medium-to full-bodied and refined. Drink from 2021." (09/2019)

Pasetti's vineyards lie in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo, between the Tirino and Pescara valleys at the foot of Gran Sasso and Maiella. The location's favorable climate, varied terrain and clay chalk and skeleton-rich rocky subsoils result in some of the best wines coming out of Italy today. Made by husband-and-wife team Franco and Mimma from vineyards at 550 meters above sea level, their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is aromatic, balanced, and elegant. The perfect weeknight red.

2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Quite understated for a 2015 Brunello, this shows heather, rose petals and tulips. Hints of bark, red licorice and cedar. Medium-to full-bodied with silky, sleek tannins and lots of mouthwatering acidity drive. Refined and elegant. Drink in 2021." (10/2019)

2016 Casino di Sala Rosso dei Tatanni Rosso Toscano
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "A beautiful sangiovese that shows fresh blueberries, intense violets, dried herbs and iodine. Juicy and very inviting with round, succulent tannins and a tangy finish. Drink now." (04/2019)

93 points James Suckling: "Very floral and fruity with hints of pear and melon on the nose. Medium to full body, spicy and minerally undetones to the chalky, almond-tinted fruit. Delicious and intense finish. " (10/2017) 91 points Vinous: "Luminous straw-green. Lively aromas and flavors of nectarine and green apple carry intense floral nuances. The aftertaste is long, cool and brimming with early appeal. Drink through 2021. (ID)" (12/2018)

91 points James Suckling: "This has decent depth of fruit with a rich palate that offers dark berry and chocolate. Smooth tannin resolve. " (10/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Perfumed and fruity at the same time, the barrique-aged 2016 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Furggl is a dark red wine with thick, blackish veins of concentrated color. The bouquet offers varietal aromas of red rose petal, dried cherry and chewy blackberry. The tannins are soft and caressing, and the wine is relatively creamy in texture with a point of bitterness on th...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delicate aromas of truffle, wild berry, violet and espresso lead the nose. The elegant palate delivers ripe morello cherry, raspberry compote and star anise framed in lithe tannins. (KO)" (03/2019)

2015 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dust and ripe fruit such as dried redcurrants, strawberry jam and raspberry fool. Lots of mahogany and old piano too. Decadent with dark-chocolate flavors and rustic tannnins, but there’s a fine line of acidity to drive this to a tidy if silty finish. Drink in 2025." (10/2019)

94 points James Suckling: "Dried-strawberry and watermelon aromas follow through to a medium to full body, firm and polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and intensity. Drink after 2021. " (06/2019) 91 points Vinous: "The 2016 Barbaresco Autinbej is a very pretty entry-level wine in this range. Black cherry, spice, menthol, licorice and dried flowers all open up in a fruity, forward Barbaresco that will drink well right out of the gate. This is such a delicious and inviting wine. Drink 2021-2036. (AG)" (11/2019)

2015 La Massa "Carla 6" Toscana Rosso
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "Complex aromas of plums, fruit tea, cherries and hints of flowers. Medium- to full-bodied yet dense on the center palate with gorgeous tannins and great length. This is so long and energetic on the finish. Just a baby but already so impressive. Drink in 2021. " (09/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The gorgeous 2015 Carla 6 is a supercharged expression of Sangiovese from a place that I can only describe as Sangiovese heaven: Panzano in Chianti. I'm told that berry size was smaller in this vintage, thus resulting...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva is a versatile and food-friendly red to pair with grilled fennel sausage. The wine is packed tightly with bright and easy fruit tones, including wild cherry and myrtle berry. It does undergo some aging in large oak casks, and although you don't taste it per se, the wine has taken on slightly more volume and depth as a result. (ML)" (11/2019) K&L Notes: This Cannonau (aka Grenache) comes from the rustic island of Sardinia, located in the Mediterranean Sea, northwest of Sicily. The Sel...

92 points Vinous: "Le Ragnaie's 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is striking. Deep and yet wonderfully translucent, the 2016 captures the purest essence of Sangiovese. Sweet red cherry, mint, rose petal and sweet spice give the 2016 a striking upper register of aromatic brilliance to play off its mid-weight personality. This is such a pretty and expressive wine. It's all class here. (AG)" (10/2019) Wine Spectator: "Textbook aromas and flavors of cherry, almond, iron, sanguine and leather mark this balanced, expressive red. Fresh and moderately long. Drink now ...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Cellar Selection: Aromas of game, new leather, humid forest floor and ripe berry mingle with whiffs suggesting cake spice and violet. The juicy, earthy palate is savory and loaded with personality, doling out fleshy Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and a salty mineral note. Tightly woven but polished tannins and fresh acidity provide the framework, while a licorice note lingers on the close. (KO)" (09/2019) 92 points Vinous: "La Ca' Nova's 2016 Barbaresco is a jewel of a wine. Powerful and yet wonderfully translu...

James Suckling: "Lots of cooked cranberries, strawberry candy and caramelized orange peel. Medium body, ripe tannins and a slightly stewed finish. Still attractive and succulent though. Drink now." (09/2018)
Price: $17.99

2015 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Beautiful ripeness, but also balance on the nose, which features cinnamon, dried cedar, dried plums, dark chocolate and licorice. Expansive and comprehensive on the palate with outward-veering tannins and lots of treacle-tart undertones. Chewy and decadent." (10/2019)

Importer notes: "Situated just a stone’s throw away from the Slovenian border, Edi Keber’s 10 hectares of vineyards grow on the classic "ponca" soil, a stony, friable marl that gives the wines remarkable weight and body. Extremely poor, the "ponca" naturally stresses the vines which produce very small quantities of grapes (1 to 1.5 kg/vine) and provide a distinctive minerality, typical of the Collio region. Keber's first bottled wines date back to 1957, although his family, originally from Vienna, has made wine for 350 years. Edi deeply believes in the u...

2015 Poggio Antico "Altero" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "A beautiful cascade of blue and darker fruit precedes generous, enticing notes of saffron, dried orange rind, cumin, roasted thyme and nutmeg. Balanced and tightly framed on the medium-to full-bodied palate with mouthwatering fruit and crunchy acidity, coloring an ornately woven structure of silky tannins. Very long and velvety on the finish. Everything is where it should be. " (09/2019)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "About ten producers make wine in the Valmaggiore cru in Roero (many of whom are reviewed here), and these wines get better each year I return to taste them. The 2016 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore is particularly beautiful, thanks to ideal growing conditions during that year. The Sandrone family counts 3.5 hectares in this location. As an alternative to Barolo, this wine presents a soft and graceful side of Nebbiolo with delicate fruit nuances and distinct mineral etchings. Indeed, the wine is almost salty in taste....

92 points Vinous: "Bright medium-dark yellow. Aromas of apple, pear, lime and apple cider on the rich nose. Then dense, bright and juicy, featuring suave pomaceous orchard fruit flavors and a hint of gingery zing on the clean finish. Lovely, refreshing but also very concentrated white that is increasingly less funky and macerated than past vintages of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo from Emidio Pepe. (ID)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: *Natural Wine*

96 points James Suckling: "Raspberries with strawberries and hints of dried rose petals and cedar. Full bodied, this builds on the palate with superb tannin tension and focus. Goes on for minutes. Greatness. Drink in 2023." (01/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Morra is generally known for slightly more accessible expressions, and this is the case with the beautifully velvety and rich 2015 Barolo Gattera that shows so well straight out of the gate. Fruit for this wine is sourced from two positions on either side of the landmark cedar o...
