2016 Pax "Sonoma Hillsides" Sonoma County Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2016 Pax "Sonoma Hillsides" Sonoma County Syrah (100VN). Vinous: "The 2016 Syrah Sonoma-Hillsides has been nothing less than stunning on the three occasions I have tasted it so far. A wine of extraordinary purity and depth, the 2016 dazzles from the very first taste. The richness and power are simply breathtaking. Bacon fat, smoke, grilled herb and lavender are woven into a graceful, seamless core of inky blue/purplish fruit. Even with all of its intensity, the 2016 remains remarkably light on its feet. The Sonoma-Hillsides is a blend of fruit from Castelli-Knight Ranch, Griffin's Lair and Walker Vine Hill, done with 100% whole clusters and aged in a combination of concrete and neutral oak, with no SO2. I am not sure how the 2016 will age, but I am also not sure it will matter, as most bottles will be long gone before that is an issue. Quite simply, the Sonoma-Hillsides is a total pleasure bomb and a modern-day benchmark for Syrah in California. Don't miss i

1969 Louis Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1969 Louis Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The story of Louis Martini is a key chapter in Napa's winemaking history. Genovese immigrant Louis Martini established his first business in 1922, smack in the middle of Prohibition (in force in the U.S. from 1919 until 1933). He was therefore limited to making "sacramental and medicinal" wines at first. With the end of prohibition, Martini became one the first winemakers in California to produce vintage varietal table wines in quantity, and at reasonable prices. His son's 1968/70 Merlot was the first varietal Merlot made in the U.S. Sourced from prime vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, including Monte Rosso in the mountains above Sonoma Valley and La Loma in the cool Carneros district south of Napa, and made with care and expertise, Louis Martini wines have aged exceptionally well. With their hallmark of impeccable balance, older Louis Martini Cabs never cease to amaze.

On the palate, this elegant wine is seamlessly interwoven with cassis, cured meat, and crushed, dried herbs. Structured, yet approachable tannins provide a full mid-palate and the underpinning for a lengthy and lovely finish. In its youth, the 2014 vintage benefits from decanting prior to service."

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1978 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac. According to Michael Broadbent: "Notably deep, intense appearance, a gloriously exciting five-star bouquet, medium-sweet, full-bodied. A powerful, spicy wine with good flesh and fruit." Decanter's vintage note on 1978: "A classic Bordeaux vintage of average sign, so much smaller than the vintage of the 80s & 90s. While they never had the pretensions of '70 or '75, the have probably given more pleasure for longer than either."

2016 Myriad "Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard - Elysian" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2016 Myriad "Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard - Elysian" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 97JD, 93VN, 92JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep purple-black colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian gives up intense earthy notes of crushed rocks, iron ore, black truffles and fertile loam to begin, giving way to a stunning array of black fruits and floral scents—crushed black cherries, warm black berries, cassis, red roses and candied violets—with wafts of cigar box and pencil lead in the background. Full-bodied, rich and fantastically flamboyant in the mouth, the decadent fruit slowly grows on the palate to reveal layer upon layer of mineral, earthy and seductively spiced black fruits, finishing very long and wonderfully perfumed. This is Dr. Crane at its finest. (LPB)" (10/2018)

Finishes with a firm dusting of tannins and noteworthy flavor authority and grip. Made from 90% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre and Syrah, it offers rich, full-bodied aromas and flavors of roasted Provencal herbs, charred meats, olives and bloody meat. Bid on this bottle of 2001 Foxen Santa Barbara Cabernet Sauvignon. Foxen was founded in 1985 by two Central Coast natives Bill Wathen and Dick Doré and the winery has since established a lasting reputation for producing some of the best wines from the region. Wathen describes his approach to winemaking as: "My belief remains that best winemaking is always the least intrusive, resulting in wines that are honorable to each site. I see my job of the winegrower is to record the organoleptic history of the vineyard year in the bottle, with as little fingerprint as possible. If I can accomplish this each vintage, then I have rewarded myself.”

The flavors are extremely rich, sweet and wonderfully concentrated with a deep, very sweet essence of pinot finish that still retains glimpses of its former power. While the bouquet is unforthcoming, the wine is loaded with a steely acidity, massive richness, and possesses a mind-blowing finish. It tastes like eau de vie of buttered apples and liquid popcorn. Both are brilliant wines and they represent the finest back-to-back vintages for Dominus since 2001 and 2002 or 1990 and 1991. Both the 2007 and 2008 Dominus should drink well for 25-30 years. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend ((96-98RP), 97JS, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012s made from Bordeaux varietals include their flagship wine, the 2012 Proprietary Red Les Pavots, a sensational blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 11% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. A prodigious effort, it rivals some of the fabulous past vintages such as 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2007. The inky/purple-colored 2012 boasts classic notes of crème de cassis, roasted coffee, vanilla bean, cedar, forest floor and blueberries. Full-bodied and complex with sweet tannin as well as hints of charcoal and camphor, this opulent, multi-leveled, Bordeaux-styled 2012 can be drunk now or cellared for 25-30+ years. (RP)" (12/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Sine Qua Non "Upside Down" Grenache (96RP, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Grenache Upside Down emerges from the glass with layers of dark red fruit as it sweeps across the palate. There is an inner sweetness and sheer depth that make the 2009 compelling. The 11% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre make themselves heard clearly in adding layers of depth and pure richness. Tar, anise and graphite meld together on the rich, dramatic finish. This is a striking wine endowed with tons of pure textural dimension. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2016 Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini Clos-St.-Denis Grand Cru ((94-96RP), (92-94BH)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru is raised in 50% new oak from Hermitage and Remond cooperages and includes 70% whole bunch fruit. It has a very well-defined bouquet with blackberry, briary, pressed flowers and minerals that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, beautifully focused and it manages to retain the elegance and finesse that defines great Clos Saint Denis. You would not call it understated, but its class creeps up on you by stealth rather than brags about it in your face. (NM)" (12/2017)

1979 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1979 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux (90VN). Vinous: "The 1979 Brane-Cantenac is a wine that was disparaged in some influential quarters, but it's a gem. It is clearly the best wine of this era, a vintage that actually favored the Margaux. It has an appealing tobacco, blackberry and brine bouquet that is not complex, yet still demonstrates satisfactory vigor. The palate is balanced but vigorous, old-fashioned yet charming, featuring mint-tinged black fruit mixed with tobacco and graphite. There is much more presence here than the 1978 or 1981. This is, dare I suggest, an insider's Brane-Cantenac that you should leap upon if you spot a bottle, as I did when I found this in a shop in Beaune. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Coming from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, blocks B1, B2 and E2 planted to clone 337, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS has a very deep purple-black color and is a little reticent to begin, offering glimpses at crushed black berries, black cherries and black currants with touches of cedar chest, pencil lead, dark chocolate and dusty earth with a waft of cinnamon stick. 2009 Screaming Eagle "Second Flight" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Screaming Eagle "Second Flight" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (93VN). Vinous: "A beautiful expression of the year, the 2009 Second Flight emerges from the glass with intense layers of fruit in a style that very much recalls Screaming Eagle. Today, the 2009 comes across as a bit more structured and tannic than previous efforts. Some of that may be the vintage, but I imagine the addition of 9% Cabernet Franc over Merlot to the blend is also a contributing factor. Either way, the 2009 is a striking Second Flight endowed with serious depth, purity and finesse. Sweet red berries, crushed flowers and sweet spices are some of the many nuances that are woven together in this appealing, totally delicious wine. The 2009 is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc. (AG)" (12/2012)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Not surprisingly 30 years later, this is much, much fresher in magnum, in fact so much so that it almost seems like a completely different wine. Bricked through. An elegant and wonderfully spicy nose offers up plenty of sous-bois, earth, dried rose petal and a hint of minerality that continues onto the delicious, focused and still relatively concentrated flavors that possess both style and grace before culminating in a refined, delicious and lingering finish. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 96VN, 94WE, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I think the wine of the vintage, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Columbia Valley is flat out sensational, and flirts with perfection. Its inky ruby/purple color is followed by incredible notes of cassis, black currants, smoked herbs, licorice and graphite. These give way to a full-bodied, utterly seamless Cabernet that has full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannin and a killer finish. 2014 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this bottle of 2014 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 98JS, 98RP, 98VN, 97JD, 95DC, 94WS) in original wood. Vinous: "A wine of restraint and sensuality, the 2014 Harlan Estate is wonderfully transparent in feel. Time in the glass brings out a compelling interplay of beautifully layered fruit and lifted aromatics. The 2014 is one of the most understated yet energetic young vintages of Harlan Estate I can remember tasting. Readers who have not tasted Harlan Estate in a few years might be taken aback by just how sophisticated and nuanced the 2014 is. This is a superb effort. (AG)" (03/2018)

1979 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1979 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion. Cheval Blanc is a Premier Grand Cru Classé A — one of a small number of elite St-Emilion producers at the top of their classification. Holding a pretty impressive 91 acres of land in this small appellation, the winery makes one of Bordeaux's most profound and collectible wines. Cheval Blanc is often (and understandably) confused with Bordeaux's first growths, but the 1855 classification did not extend to St-Emilion. The deserved praises of Cheval Blanc have been sung for quite some time, notably by Robert Parker, having a great effect on the popularity of the wine. The vineyards are planted to 66% Cabernet Franc and 34% Merlot. The 2012 cuvée is 46% Cabernet Franc and 54% Merlot.

1990 Leroy Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Leroy Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (98RP, 94BH, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The stellar 1990 Clos de la Roche has a medium-to-dark ruby color and dense dark berry aromas. It possesses a youthful, almost impenetrable core of thick, lush blackberries, juniper berries, plums, cloves, and blueberries that coat the palate. This medium-to-full-bodied wine has exquisite equilibrium and focus, as well as a seemingly unending luxurious finish (PR)" (10/2000)

1996 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 96ST, 95JD, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Chateau Margaux, a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, must be a strong contender for wine of the vintage. It offers everything you desire from this First Growth. It is blessed with breathtaking delineation and freshness on the nose, understated at first and then blossoming with mineral-infused black fruit, hints of blueberry, crushed stone and violet. The palate is perfectly balanced with filigree tannin, perfect acidity, a wine where everything seems to be in its right place. Blackberry, crushed stone at the front of the mouth, just a touch of spice towards the finish that shows supreme control. This is a Margaux that seems to light up the senses. It was outstanding in its youth...something that has not changed one bit over the intervening two decades. This may well turn out to be the Left Bank pinnacle of the 1990s. Tasted Ju

2013 Ovid Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Ovid Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 98VN, 95DC, 94WS, 93JS). Vinous: "This tasting reinforces my view that the 2013 is the most complete Ovid yet. Dark, powerful and vertical in its sense of structure, the 2013 possesses terrific intensity, with a backbone of firm tannin that will allow the wine to age gracefully for many years. I wouldn’t dream of touching a bottle before age ten. Vivid and exceptionally balanced, the 2013 Ovid captures all the pedigree that is such a signature of this great Napa Valley vintage. 2016 Sine Qua Non "Rätsel 16" California Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2016 Sine Qua Non "Rätsel 16" California Syrah (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Produced entirely from estate fruit, the 2016 Syrah Rätsel 16 offers up a brooding bouquet of smoky blackberries, French roast, cassis liqueur and subtle grilled meat, with only hints of all the savory complexity it will show down the line. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and chewy, with a rich chassis of velvety structuring tannins, a deep, super concentrated core of fruit and a long, sapid finish. Like the Grenache Dirt Vernacular, it's quite expressive and giving in profile by comparison with the firmer, more structural 2015s from Sine Qua Non, but its more brooding profile makes me suspect it has more potential upside with some time in bottle. It's a blend of 81% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre, 5% Petite Sirah, 2.5% Grenache and 4.5% Viognier that was fermented with 47% whole cluster. 1791 cases and 600 magnums were produced. (WK) 96+" (08/2018)

1986 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1986 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley came across as a Spanish wine when it was poured. The color was medium dark garnet with considerable amber, orange, and rust at the edge. As the wine sat in the glass, the oak became better integrated, and an herbal, smoky, spicy, fruitcake-scented nose began to emerge. Tasters were equally split on whether they loved or hated it, with one taster correctly identifying it. However, within 10 minutes, the general consensus (I concurred) was that this was an intriguing, sweet, cedary, smoky, herbaceous, but expansive, exotic, chewy wine... (RP)" (06/1996)

2008 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (95JS, 95RP, 95ST, 95W&S, 93VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Monte Bello is marked by the drought vintage, which not only made a more concentrated crop but also deprived the blend of all supporting varieties, as only Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot handled the dry conditions sufficiently gracefully to make the final cut. At age ten, this muscular Monte Bello is finally beginning to unwind, offering up rich aromas of black cherry, cassis, dried mountain laurel, loamy soil and burning embers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, expansive and powerful, its generous, sweetly fruited attack giving way to a taut, firm mid-palate that doesn't show as much finesse as the 2010 or 2012, concluding with a long, stony finish. Baugher observes that in its youth, the 2008 was "monolithic and more angular—a mouthful of tannin." A decade later, it's beginning to soften, but it still req

2001 Lokoya Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon (3L)
Bid on this 3 liter of 2001 Lokoya Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon (3L) (100RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An utterly perfect wine that exemplifies this extraordinary vintage for North Coast Bordeaux varietals is the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder, which comes from the Jackson family’s Veeder Peak Vineyard. Unfortunately, slightly less than 300 cases were produced, so availability is limited. A dense opaque blue/purple color is followed by notes of lead pencil shavings, ink, blueberry liqueur, raspberries and black currants. The wine is super intense as well as extremely full-bodied and opulent with great structure, purity and density. (I know this sounds weird, but when I smelled and tasted it, it reminded me of the 2010 La Mission Haut Brion that I had tasted a month earlier, no doubt because of its volcanic/hot rock-like character.) This phenomenal wine is a modern day legend from Napa. Still a youngster in terms of its development, it should hit its peak in another 5-6 ye

1970 Moet & Chandon "Dom Pérignon" Brut Champagne (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1970 Moet & Chandon "Dom Pérignon" Brut Champagne (1.5L) (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As well-aged Champagne often does because of the heavy yeast influence, the nose plays right on the edge of oxidative aromas yet doesn't cross over the line and this allows the white orchard fruit, floral, baked bread and toast elements to shine. There is still good energy to the utterly delicious and still attractively intense flavors thanks to the presence of a firm supporting mousse that allows this to drink like a materially more youthful Champagne. I very much liked this and in magnum format this lovely effort should continue to drink well for a number of years to come." (10/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien (96JS, 96WE, 96WS, 95RP, 94ST, 94W&S). Wine Enthusiast: "Right from the early days of tasting in spring 2001, this was going to be one of the stars of the vintage. And a star it remains. There is big, ripe fruit, with solid, ageworthy tannins. It may not be as powerful as some of the blockbusters of the vintage, but it is certainly more opulent, less classical than Léoville-Barton can sometimes be. (RV)" (06/2003)

1993 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1993 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Montelena produces two cuvees of Cabernet. The estate Cabernet Sauvignons, Montelena's flagship wines, have been remarkably consistent. From fruit grown in their Calistoga vineyards, which are dry farmed (non-irrigated), approximately 10,000 cases of this wine are estate-bottled each year. It is hard to find less than a stellar vintage. The 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (the current release) possesses the most aggressive tannin of the 1993-1996 Estate Cabernets. It is a weighty, hefty, powerful wine, with a dense purple color, ripe, sweet black fruit flavors, considerable muscle and depth, and a spicy, full-bodied, tannic finish. This wine has all the necessary components to age effortlessly for 20+ years. (RP)" (12/1997)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Vine Hill Ranch "VHR" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 100VN, 98JD) in original wood. Vinous: "Vine Hill Ranch's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is flat-out epic. Look for the 2016 VHR to be one of the benchmark wines of this great Napa Valley vintage. A year ago, the 2016 was powerful and dramatic. Today, the 2016 is super-polished and regal in bearing. Vertical and deep, with tremendous complexity, the 2016 has so much to offer. A rush of black cherry, plum, menthol, licorice, sage, dark spice and earthy notes build as this statuesque Cabernet Sauvignon shows off its magnificent pedigree.
