96 points Wine & Spirits: ""There it is," sighed a panelist when he came to this wine in the lineup. "That’s what you want out of xinomavro." What he was referring to is the pure flavor of red cherries, sweet but firm, not at all overripe; and the forest-floor scent of dried leaves in early fall, as well as the mushrooms pushing up through the ground beneath them. And then there’s the burr of the tannins, fruit-filled yet mouth-sticking, making each sip last for minutes at a time. The 2013 vintage was exceptional in Naoussa, free of extremes, but credit ...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Rosé Malagousia - Mandilaria is an 80/20 blend, dry (2.1 grams of sugar and 5.5 grams of total acidity) and coming in at 12% alcohol. A nice value in a solid pink with some flavor but a serious feel, this has respectable freshness, enticing aromatics and a clean, dry finish. This can work well as a red-wine substitute in the summer. Unlike a lot of pinks, it probably won't be as interesting as a quaffer—it is actually better than that. (MS)" (04/2019)

On the border of Macedonia and Thrace in northern Greece vigneron Nerantzi Mitropoulos has made it his life's mission to explore and express the indigenous varieties of his home country. Working organically and with all indigenous yeasts, each wine is a pure expression of its variety and the region. Assyrtiko, well-established as a grape by the island of Santorini, has the potential to expand outside the region. Nerantzi has planted it on primarily calcareous sandy-loam which has given it this beautiful texture and weight. The vineyards at nearly 100...

94 points Wine & Spirits: "This broadcasts its freshness and youth in its cherry-red color and berry scents. But don’t be seduced into drinking this now: Pulled from the oldest vines in Yiannakohori, the Boutari family’s estate vineyards in Naoussa, it’s concentrated and firm. There’s an iron filigree of tannins defending the fruit, and vivacious acidity underlining its intention to preserve the wine for many more years. Forget about this in the cellar for at least five years; then draw it out for a crown roast of pork." (08/2018) 91 points Wine Enthus...

90 points Wine & Spirits: "By choosing assyrtiko, a powerful grape, and leaving it on the skins for a week, Dimitrios Kioutsoukis turned out a wine that meets the power of the pine resin head-on. Fermented with ambient yeasts and mellowed in old barrels, the wine is more spicy than piney, its notes of mint, roasted fennel seeds and camphor mingling with peach and orange. Skin tannins give the wine grip, making this a Retsina for rich dishes, like pork belly bo ssam. (TT)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: Is it Retsina or is it Orange Wine? A bit of both actually. ...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Spylia is an Agiorgitiko aged for 12 months in 60% new wood (70/30 French and American). It comes in at 13.9% alcohol. This, the winery says, comes from a cool microclimate in the region, with harvests that run about two weeks later than normal. This is, to some extent, a replay of the 2014, except that there is a bit more fruit flavor evident on this 2015. This finishes with restrained but delectable cherry nuances. The texture and precision might actually be a little better on the 2014, but the better fruit here...

Unlike most Assyrtiko you have ever tried, this is fermented with all native yeasts and rests on Muscat lees lending weight, color and beautiful floral aromatics. The sensation gives a phenolic richness of most orange wines but without the tannic backbone. A great intro to the style! *orange wine*

The Scavlos family have been growing vines on their six-hectare property since 1919. All their vines are old-vine, original rootstock bush vines. Vinification includes spontaneous yeast fermentation, minimal sulfuring, and the wines re bottles unfined and unfiltered. The vines are not irrigated and yields are naturally low. *Natural Wine*

Not to be confused with the "Nimbus" which is orange and funky. This is actually more of your classic Retsina you would taste at the local tavena inbetween your exploration of the back streets of Athens. Fun and definitely piney, you will be transported back to this most historic of wine countries.

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Iama Red is a 60/40 blend of Vradiano and Syrah, aged for 12 months in second-use French oak. This has been seen before, but let's check on it with about 18+ months more in bottle. It had a lot of power when first seen and it was hard to be sure where it was going. To some extent, that is still true, but there are some signs of progress. Still a bit tight, but much faster to open now, this is showing its character and complexity more. There is that hint of beef in the background, but it's still the crisp...

Metaxa 7 Star is a Greek spirit often confused for brandy, but is actually a unique drink produced from Savatiano, Sultanina and Black Corinth, twice distilled, blended with aged muscat and a secret mix of botanicals. The 7 is then aged for at least seven years in limousine oak casks. A Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast: "N...

"Very Good, Recommended," by the Wine Enthusiast: "The bouquet comes off very mature, brandy-like, raisiny and pruny with a genuine wood influence and vanilla-like sweetness that rounds out the raisiin/prune aspect. Palate entry is truly raisiny/pruny and more bittersweet than sugar sweet; midpalate stage featue ...

96 points Decanter: " Classy example with a whispering presence and a crystalline fruitiness that recalls a warmer Chablis. The palate is meticulously textured and undeniably complex. An outstanding wine with a very long finish and cleansing aftertaste. (DWWA 2019)" (05/2019) 90 points Wine & Spirits: "This is Matthew Argyros’s flagship Santorini, a cuvée of old-vine fruit gently pressed, then aged for a short time on the lees. It’s steely and lean, the clarity of the chalky flavors giving it an electric feel. It lasts, shimmering with minerality, as w...
