Don Julio 1942 Añejo Tequila (750ml) (cannot ship, in store pick up only) (Previously $130) (Previously $130)
Top Pick!
98 points Wine Enthusiast: "A stunning limited-edition añejo. The golden color and caramel scent hint at what’s to come: sweet agave flavor, a lingering whisper of smoke and mellow notes of tropical fruit, Sauternes and butterscotch. (KN)" (05/2011) K&L Notes: Cannot be shipped, will call pick up only. Don Julio is particularly proud of this limited-edition Añejo, and rightfully so: "I established my first tequila distillery in 1942 and to commemorate that very special year, I have created Don Julio 1942 a unique and limited edition, I personally selec...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This spirit has a complex, rewarding array of flavors. The aroma is very smoky and spicy, evoking barbecue. But on the tongue, this vibrant-gold reposado layers vanilla and orange-peel flavors with a warm hint of toffee, and the smoke only comes through on the finish. Comes packaged in a striking, gift-worthy square-shouldered bottle with impressive heft. Aged nine months." (05/2012) K&L Notes: Frank Mendez called me one day and told me he'd like to come present his new family project: Gran Dovejo tequila. While Frank and hi...

Campeon tequila is made at El Viejito distillery in Atotonilco, Jalisco. For more than 75 years, the Nunez family has been making unadulterated, additive-free tequila with a clean-tasting purity and a trademark note of white pepper and spice. In Mexico, they release an eponymous tequila called El Viejito, but in the U.S. they're brought in by the Bay Area's own Lou Palatella, who contracts the juice under his Campeon label. Juan Nunez is a big believer in minimal oak influence, so the anejo isn't as rich or dark as most tequilas in this category. Neverth...

NOM 1114 in Amatitan, Jalisco is the producer of Caballito Cerrero and considered one of the top tequila distilleries in the world. They're committed to producing Tequila the traditional way and that sometimes means they run afoul of the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (or CRT). The regulatory body of the tequila industry and this little distillery in Amatitan have not seen eye to eye. Nonetheless, Caballito Cerrero has become a legend among Tequila's cognoscenti. This product is one of the very reasons Caballito has had trouble getting their spirits certi...

Judah Kuper stumbled into a love of mezcal while traveling through Oaxaca and a visit to a local hospital led to him falling in love with a nurse whose father happened to be a traditional mezcal producer. This Ensamble is produced by Kuper's father-in-law and is similar to a 2016 special release available only in the SF Bay Area that earned the nickname the "Curry 30" in honor of NBA all star Steph Curry who is a mezcal fan. According to the producer, this Ensamble is a blend of Cuixe, Tepeztate, and Espadín "to mimic the blends previous generations work...

Mezcal Nacional is dedicated to the times that are no more and commemorates important events in Mexico’s past. The name "1938" is meant to honor and remember the sacrifices and hardships that Mexico underwent after it moved to nationalize its oil industry during the Depression. Notes from the producer: "Mezcal Nacional 1938 is an ensamble produced from wild agave cirial and cultivated agave espadín. Ensambles require extra care as they are produced by combining an optimum ratio of cirial and espadín piñas prior to cooking, crushing, fermentation, and distillation. The maestro meszcalero must carefully pre-determine the optimum ratio of agave varieties to yield th...

Yuu Baal is one of the best new mezcal labels we've seen from Oaxaca in the last few years, originating from the town of San Juan del Rio whichis one of the region's most well-regarded distillation centers. The brand (which translates to "earth" and "fire" in Zapotec) also incorporates spirits from San Luis del Rio, Santa Ana del Rio, and Santo Domingo Albarradas in what has immediately become one of the most diverse and high-quality line ups we carry. Yuu Baal's wild tepeztate expression is perhaps one of the most polished top shelf mezcals we've ever t...

From Mezcal Reviews: "Rey Campero Sierra Negra is a newer release from Casa Sanchez. Due to the extreme limited availability of the agave Sierra Negra, this mezcal was originally only available in Mexico, but a batch first came into the US in 2018. The agave Sierra Negra takes about 25 years to mature and it is no longer commonly used in mezcal due to over harvesting and a general lack of availability."
