Rey Campero Tepextate + Pulquero K&L Exclusive Single Batch Lot#D5001-TP Mezcal (750ml)
Top Pick!
This single batch of Rey Campero mezcal yeilded roughly 264 bottles, half of which remained in Mexico. The other half is exclusive to K&L. Distilled in October 2017, this batch rested for 30 months in glass before being bottled. This extended resting process gives this particular batch an increased sense of smoothness and elegance while carrying all of the robust flavors of Tepextate (A. Marmorata) and Pulquero (A. Atrovirens) agaves. This unique 50/50 field blend was a one time production created by Romulo Sanchez almost 3 years ago. This is one of the ...

Tequila Tapatio "Excelencia" Extra Añejo Tequila (1L)
Top Pick!
The oldest expression from Carlos Camarena's Tapatio brand is finally available stateside. Rich and butterscotchy and with hints of black pepper and citrus. It is distilled exclusively from perfectly matured agave at the famous La Altena distillery in Arandas. When they tell you how this stuff was made, it just boggles the mind. Distilled in 2000, this is the official SECOND batch of Excelencia. It was filled into the same barrels as the first directly after they were dumped and aged for four years before being transferred into glass containers. There it...

5 Sentidos K&L Exclusive Espadin "Batch ESALB01-19" (Alberto Martinez) Santa Catarina Albarradas Uncertified Oaxacan Mezcal (750ml)
Top Pick!
5 Sentidos started as the house spirit of the acclaimed restaurant in Oaxaca city "El Destilado" and has become a platform to uplift numerous traditional producers who otherwise wouldn't be able to sell their products on the international stage. There's a stigma in Mexico of exporting uncertified agave spirits, driven by the idea that mezcal's denomination of origin is synonymous with quality. In fact, the system shuts out many traditional producers and allows countless industrial practices that should be considered inferior. That's why many of the great...

Casa Dragones Joven Sipping Tequila (750ml - ships as a 1.5L due to bottle shape)
Top Pick!
96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Although billed as a joven, this Tequila is blended with a touch of añejo. The end result is extraordinarily smooth, with a very sweet, fruity, almost wine-like nose but a bold, pure peppery flavor that finishes cleanly. The packaging is gift-worthy, presenting the bottle in a gold-and-robin’s egg blue box, like a precious jewel. (KN)" (05/2013) K&L Notes: Casa Dragones is 100% Blue Agave Joven Tequila. Hand-made in small batches using a multiple distillation process for a clean, extra soft taste. The Maestro Tequilero hand-...

This is about as artisinal as tequila gets. From the Tequila Trés Mujéres distillery in Amatitán, the Dos Artes line is a small-batch, expertly crafted run of tequilas packaged in some of the most beautiful, hand-painted ceramic bottles. Each bottle alone takes several hours to produce. The Reserva Especial Extra Añejo is the top-tier offering, and while very little information is available as to the production process (the company does not have a working official website), the results in the copita are stunning. From the nose on through the palate, pure...

5 Sentidos K&L Exclusive Ensamble De 6 Magueyes "Batch 6M-19" (Atenogenes and José Garcia) San Isidro Guishe Uncertified Oaxacan Mezcal (750ml)
Top Pick!
This incredible small-batch mezcal was created by the Atenogenes and José Garcia in the town of San Isidro Guishe. A re-creation of what would have been typical in mezcal production just a few decades ago, a field blend in the truest sense of the word. Here the father and son team harvested the mature agave from a single field grown by a neighbor. In exchange the neighbor (or Magueyero) received forty liters of this incredible batch of mezcal, a fine payment for the nearly 2 tons of ripe agave that were needed to distill this 183-liter batch. Most of the...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "The hand-painted ceramic bottle is gorgeous, but so is what's in the bottle: a blend of three-four- and five-year old Tequilas. Look for a deep amber hue and complex aromas that unfold jalapeño, brown sugar and cocoa. The palate-coating, slightly viscous palate opens with clove and coriander, warming to cocoa, browned butter, and sarsaparilla, and finishes on black pepper and cinnamon. The overall effect almost reads like a Tequila-based amaro. (KN)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: Grand Mayan is a rare Extra Añejo from the exceptional...

Don Julio 1942 Añejo Tequila (750ml) (cannot ship, in store pick up only) (Previously $130) (Previously $130)
Top Pick!
98 points Wine Enthusiast: "A stunning limited-edition añejo. The golden color and caramel scent hint at what’s to come: sweet agave flavor, a lingering whisper of smoke and mellow notes of tropical fruit, Sauternes and butterscotch. (KN)" (05/2011) K&L Notes: Cannot be shipped, will call pick up only. Don Julio is particularly proud of this limited-edition Añejo, and rightfully so: "I established my first tequila distillery in 1942 and to commemorate that very special year, I have created Don Julio 1942 a unique and limited edition, I personally selec...

Còdigo 1530 K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Añejo Tequila (750ml)
Top Pick!
Còdigo is the most popular tequila producer we carry at K&L, and for good reason. They set themselves apart in several ways. For starters, they only use "extra maduro" or "overly mature" agave for their tequila. These extremely ripe agaves make a rich and flavorful tequila with a luscious texture and intensity of fruit that is rarely found from larger producers who can't get enough quality agave to support their production levels. The second major difference in Còdigo's tequilas is their use of oak. They only age in Napa Cabernet barrels, not used bourbo...

Siembra Valles Ancestral is a project conceived of a love of history and a desire to know tequila from its roots, celebrating its true identity and a curiosity of what the past once tasted like. With agave untouched by machine, the Ancestral boasts the complexity of nature's flavors and the skills of tequilero ancestry. It begins its journey through time in the pristine blue agave fields nurtured by the Rosales family’s team of expert cultivators, jimadores, and a lowland terroir. The fruitful plants can credit their rich flavors to a pesticide-free land...

This 143-liter batch (176 bottles) of Jabali (A. Convallis) was produced by maestro mezcalero Alberto Martinez and his son-in-law Reynaldo. The two fo them wild harvested 326 pinas of mature Jabali at altitudes as high as 8000 feet above sea level. The pinas were roased underground in a conical oven with encino oak, dried banana leaves, and acacia leaves for 11 days. Alberto and Reynaldo then hand-mashed the cooked agave with wooden mallets, mixed it with spring water and fermented the agave in underground stonetanks with "encino de agua" (tree bark) for...

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "First nosing passes pick up incredibly zesty and harmonious aromas of dill, fennel and pepper; another seven minutes sees the bouquet turn elegant, oaky and herbal. Palate entry is semisweet, with deft traces of caramel and vanilla; by midpalate the flavors include marzipan, hard candy, dried herbs, green pepper and vanilla. Finish is long, luxurious and stately." (06/2006)

Wine Enthusiast: "This single-village mezcal made from wild mountain maguey (agave) has a clean, peppery flavor and high, sweet fragrance with a peppery zing. (KN)" (12/2010) K&L Notes: Del Maguey was named "Distiller of the Year" at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Tobalá is a special variety of wild mountain maguey (agave) that is smaller in size with larger leaves than the more widely cultivated espadin (sword) or azul (blue) agave varieties. According to local legend, tobalá is the original maguey, cultivated by the Ancestors to ma...

Real Minero is wildly considered one of the finest mezcal producers. The Mendoza family has farmed Agave for decades but they've been distilling since the 70s and become one of Mexico's most sought after producers. Using clay pot stills, they produce one of the cleanest highest quality products around, but only about 300 liters per month so stocks are tight. It's certified organic, Oaxacan owned and absolutely delicious. Produced with wild Tobala agave, Bruxo's #5 is the distiller's most limited production bottling. Distiller's notes: "Alberto Martinez Lopez has been distilling sierra negra agave spirits for over three decades. He and his son-in-law Reynaldo distill the massive agave Sierra Negra (A. Americana) in their traditional palenque in Santa Catarina Albarradas, Oaxaca. Alberto and Reynaldo harvest cultivated Sierra Negra that take twelve to fifteen years to reach their maturity. Once harvested, Alberto bakes the agave in an earthen oven with encino oak and river rocks for a week. He and Reynaldo subsequently mash the cooked agave by hand with wooden mallet...

Enrique Fonseca distilled this expression in early Spring 2010, with three-quarters of the bottling made in a double-copper column still with removed plates to achieve a lower distillation proof and the remaining quarter made in an alembic pot still. Half of the run was then stored in American white oak previously used to age California red wine, and the remaining half barreled in used dark French oak. The casks were then stored for seven years at 3,800 feet elevation in a cool-climate subterranean barrel room.

Father and son team Felipe and Ageo are 3rd and 4th generation to produce excellent mezcal in Miahuatlan. Their small community of Mengoli de Morelos happens to have some of Oaxaca's best distillers. From NETA: Ranulfo has been distilling agave spirits consistently for over four decades, working principally with the same three varieties of maguey: Madrecuixe, Bicuixe, and Espadín. Though the maestro will often distill single-agave productions, he usually combines different varietals to produce an ensamble, like the one we’re excited to share with you this spring. The different agave are roasted, macerated, fermented, and distilled together — true ensambles are never composed of cold blends of finished spirits. Producing an ensamble is one of the olde...
