Alvear "1927" Pedro Ximenez Solera Montilla-Moriles

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The impressive 1927 Pedro Ximenez Solera, from a Solera begun nearly 80 years ago, boasts a dark amber color as well as an extraordinary nose of creme brulee, liquefied nuts, marmalade, and maple syrup. Huge and viscous, yet neither cloyingly sweet nor heavy, it is a profound effort priced unbelievably low. It is meant to be drunk alone at the end of a meal. " (06/2005) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "#52 Wine Enthusiasts' Top 100 Wines of 2012. A rank well above most PX sweeties, with lush but fresh aromas of rai ...

2015 Galia "Villages" Tierra de Castilla y León (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The regular Galia has been renamed and is now the 2015 Villages since there are two more reds in the portfolio this year. It's a blend of grapes from different soils in all the villages they work (Piquera de San Esteban, Fuentelcesped, Hontangas, Cuevas de Provanco and Trigueros del Valle), trying to represent the Duero Valley as a whole. It has an intoxicating, perfumed and really attractive nose full of flowers, wild herbs and spices. The palate is medium-bodied and has the elegance and poise the nose was point ...

Sidra Acebal "El Carrascu" Sidra de Asturias (700ml) CIDER

This crisp, bright, tangy yet ultimately fresh and appley cider really hits the spot. The balance between rich, phenolic, fine bitter notes, and bright, sour apple high tones is spot on. In Asturias they drink more sidra than anywhere else in Spain (possibly in Europe?) and judging by the quality of this bottling, I can see why! (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish & Portuguese wine buyer)

2015 Galia "Le Dean" Tierra de Castilla y León (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of two new, nuanced and elegant single-vineyard reds from 2015, the 2015 Le Dean is from the Valladolid part of Ribera del Duero. It has the elegant style of the house reds along with the minerality from the limestone soils and the old vines from a north-facing slope close to Vega Sicilia. This has a personality that justifies keeping it separate even though there are only 758 bottles of it. They used some 20% full clusters for the native fermentation, and the Tempranillo was co-fermented with the approximate ...

1995 Bodegas Mauro "Vendimia Seleccionada" Castilla y León

92 points Wine Spectator: "This powerful red is nearly black in color, with great concentration on the palate, yet no clumsiness. The complex flavors range from plum to coffee to black olive to exotic spices; the tannins are muscular yet ripe, the finish clean and long. " (09/2000) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. More reticent yet highly complex aromas of inky cassis, cherry liqueur, chocolate, espresso, licorice and shoe polish; distinct notes of torrefaction. Less explosive and aromatically complex than the above and ...

2001 Bodegas Ostatu Gloria de Ostatu Rioja

94 points from Robert Parker! He says, "Even better than the 2000, the 2001 Gloria de Ostatu (95% Tempranillo from 60-70 year old vines and 5% Graciano) was aged 18 months in new French oak, and bottled unfiltered. This fabulous effort offers a saturated ruby/purple color as well as gorgeous aromas of cigar tobacco, smoke, black currants, blackberries, and cedar. Deep, full-bodied, and opulent, with a voluptuous mid-section, great intensity, and fine purity, this is a superb offering. Sadly, only 500 cases were produced. Drink it over the next 10-15 year ...

1994 La Granja Remelluri Rioja

92 points from Parker… 'Telmo Rodriguez, to be the greatest wine they have ever made (borrowing a page from France's marketing experts, 1994 is widely heralded as Spain's vintage of the century). The wine exhibits an opaque purple color, an exotic combination of smoky, blackcurrant, Asian spices, roasted herbs, and tar scents vaguely reminiscent of an imaginary blend of La Mission-Haut-Brion and Mouton-Rothschild. The wine possesses a thick, unctuous texture, fabulous concentration and richness, and a long, lush, sweet, 40-second finish with amazing extr ...

2001 Alion (Vega Sicilia) Ribera del Duero

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest Alion I have tasted from this project owned by the proprietors of Vega Sicilia, the 2001 is a sensational effort. Moreover, while it’s not inexpensive, 25,000 cases are produced. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by a glorious, smoky nose of espresso, dried herbs, roasted meats, sweet black currants, new saddle leather, plums, and cherries. This provocative, rich, complex, full-bodied Ribera del Duero possesses wonderful glycerin, fabulous purity, and a long finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. It is ...

2004 Lopez de Heredia "Viña Tondonia" Reserva (1.5L)

96 points Wine & Spirits: "A great vintage of this classic wine, this reveals its sunny beauty over the course of days. Open the bottle and you might taste tart lemon, juicy almond and touches of oxidation, bringing to mind wood oils. Those flavors integrate with air so that the wine saturates the palate with freshness, the scent turned heady, toward croissants and almond blossoms, the flavors savory, salty and bright. This family-run winery farms prime Rioja Alta sites along the Ebro River, aging this estate-grown wine in cool riverside tunnels in their ...

2006 Condado de Haza Ribera del Duero

Alejandro Fernandez is a human dynamo: farm machinery inventory, head of a huge Spanish wine business and champion of the temparnillo variety, particularly the "tinto fina" of the Ribera del Duero. Condado de Haza is occasionally thought of a

2007 Bodegas Alto Moncayo "Alto Moncayo" Campo de Borja

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I tend to drink Alto Moncayo during its first 5-6 years of life. Although I was sure they had aging potential, I did not realize just how much longevity these wines possess. They are generally full-bodied, powerful (with at least 15.5% natural alcohol), concentrated, rich wines made from very old vines and tiny yields. If you are not into flavor concentration or care about artisanal wines from great terroirs that have been ignored for centuries, this may not be the wine for you. Not one of these ten vintages was ...

2015 Galia "Clos Santuy" Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Clos Santuy is produced with the grapes from an ungrafted, head-pruned 1.12-hectare vineyard in the village of Piquera de San Esteban in the province of Soria, just outside the limits of Ribera del Duero, so it's sold as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. The vineyard is planted at some 968 meters in altitude on shallow sandstone soils and is enclosed by a dry stonewall. Bougnaud has been working and vinifying this plot separately since 2010 and noticed its personality and aging potential, but this 20 ...

2009 Bodegas El Nido "Clio" Jumilla

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Possibly my favorite vintage of this to date, the brilliant 2009 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla Clio, mostly old vine Monastrell that’s aged in new French oak, boasts awesome aromatics of smoky blackberry and crème de cassis that’s intermixed with notions of roasted coffee, chocolate, mineral, and sweet spice on the nose. Full-bodied, impeccably balanced, and awesomely fresh and focused, this blockbuster has layers of sweet fruit and texture, ripe tannin, and a detailed, clean finish. While no doubt a seriously fruited wine that carries ...

2009 Bodegas Casa Castillo "Las Gravas" Jumilla

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another of my favorite treasure troves for value-priced Spanish wines is Jumilla. This single vineyard 2009 Las Gravas, owned by Jose Maria Vicente, is an amazing wine that must be tasted to be believed. Its intense dense purple color is accompanied by copious notes of kirsch, black raspberries, blueberries and underbrush intertwined with hints of truffles and graphite. Aged 18 months in new French oak demi-muids, it is a full-bodied, stunningly pure blend of 80% Monastrell, 10% Garnacha and 10% Syrah. The old vi ...

1999 Remelluri Gran Reserva Rioja

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The monumental 1999 Remelluri La Granja Gran Reserva is a testament to what can be achieved in Rioja. Made up of a blend of 86% Tempranillo, 12% Garnacha, and 2% Graciano, it was fermented with native yeasts and aged for 27 months in French and American oak. Beautifully expressive aromatically, it gives up exotic spices, lavender, incense, a hint of balsamic, black cherry, and blackberry. In the glass it deftly combines elegance and power while concealing enough structure to endure for at least another 10-15 yea ...

2015 Señorio de San Vicente Rioja

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The single vineyard 2015 San Vicente comes from an older clone of Tempranillo and spent 20 months in 90% French and 10% American oak, all being new. This blockbuster sports a saturated purple color as well as a powerful bouquet of smoked blueberries, black cherries, scorched earth, and lead pencil. Beautiful on the palate as well, it's full-bodied, has a seamless, incredibly elegant texture, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. It's a beautiful wine that will age for 2-3 decades."
