2017 Guy Farge "Terroir de Granit" Saint-Joseph Rouge

95 points Decanter: "Very ripe liquorice, pepper, olive and black fruit nose. The palate is dense, fruity, tight and focused with saline tannins and a powerful, driving and grippy finish. Real terroir expression here. (DWWA 2019)" (05/2019) 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Saint Joseph Terroir de Granit lacks some of the vibrant raspberry notes found in Farge's Passion de Terrasses, but it looks virtually equivalent in overall quality. Black olives and black cherries pick up complex herbal-stemmy notes on the nose, while the full-b ...

2016 Château de L'Ou "Secret de Schistes" Côtes Catalanes

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the more powerful, rich, and decadent wines in the lineup, the 2016 Côtes Catalanes Secret De Schistes (100% Syrah vinified and aged in 300-liter barrels) boasts a deep purple color as well as fabulous notes of blackberries, black raspberries, crushed rock-like minerality, and Asian spices. With medium to full body, terrific concentration, and notable vibrancy and freshness, drink it over the coming decade." 2017 Torbreck "Woodcutter's" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia

93 points James Suckling: "Loads of brambleberries and dried elderberries are framed against dried meat, bark, vanilla, mocha and dark chocolate. Plush yet energetic on the palate, this weaves round, chewy and decadent tannins and runs them through a luxurious tapestry of dark fruit. Drink now or hold." (06/2019) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Aromatic and stylish, opening with violet, white pepper and subtle sweet cream notes. 2018 Guy Farge "Bouquet de Syrah" Ardeche Rouge

Guy Farge is a third generation grape grower, but he is late to the game, so to speak, as a vigneron, having bottled his first cuvée from his own grapes in 2007. Nonetheless, his meticulous and committed approach in the vineyard (where all great wine begins) carries through to his winemaking. With his son, Thomas, running the business side of the domaine, Guy is making incredibly expressive wines from his 22 hectares spread over St-Joseph, Condrieu, Cornas, and Saint-Péray. This wine, his entry-level Syrah, carries a lifted freshness to go along with the ...

2008 Peay Vineyards "Les Titans" Estate Sonoma Coast Syrah

93 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Glass-staining purple. Spicy raspberry and candied cherry aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, dark chocolate and fresh violet. Sweet red berry flavors show very good depth and definition, with subtle anise, smoke and violet pastille qualities building with air. The clean finish offers a brisk bite of cracked pepper, a touch of darker fruit and very persistent spiciness. This very seductive syrah displays no rough edges and wonderful energy." 2017 Guy Farge "Passion de Terrasse" Saint-Joseph

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Farge's 2017 Saint Joseph Passion de Terrasses comes from the estate's oldest vines and is aged in old (used for at least five wines) 400-liter barrels. The result is perfumed, with floral-herbal-spicy notes that add seamless complexity to the strawberry and raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky yet firm, with a finish that's long and vibrant. 2016 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Rouge

96-99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I was able to taste the 2016 Hermitage from three separate tanks which are blended prior to bottling. All three samples showed brilliant purity of fruit, full body, a forward, seamless, elegant texture, and classic building minerality. This is haute couture at its finest and is pure class that could come from nowhere else. As with most 2016s, it's going to be relatively accessible in its youth, yet this is one Hermitage that's not going to hit maturity for another 8-10 years and will keep for three decades." 2009 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah

95 points Wine Spectator: " Brimming with dark, rich berry, loamy earth, crushed rock and espresso, this is a powerful expression that's also tapered and sophisticated, ending with all kinds of subtle nuances that come alive on the finish. Syrah and Petite Sirah. Best from 2013 through 2024. (JL)" (02/2013) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A field blend of 82% Syrah and 18% Petite Sirah that saw 30 months in 100% new French oak barrels, the 2009 Relentless is always a supremely rich, full-flavored effort that somehow manages to stay in check and deliver a beau ...

2007 Nickel & Nickel "Darien Vineyard" Russian River Valley Syrah

This 2007 Darien Vineyard Syrah has abundant plum and sweet berry fruit nestled amongst spice and smoke from the oak. Hints of mineral and meat, characteristic of the varietal, complement the fruit. A bit richer than past vintages, this wine has a polished and smooth middle palate with sweet tannins that round out the finish. This excellent progression of fruit, spice, toast and meat continuing into a long, supple finish has become the signature of this vineyard. 2017 Clos Bellane "Petite Bellane" Côtes du Rhône-Villages

Stephane Vedeau is the proprietor/winemaker behind critical darling Les Fermes du Mont. In 2010, Vedeau added Clos Bellane from the Côtes du Rhône-Village Valreas to his portfolio. Valreas is the northernmost of the Village level Côtes du Rhônes and Stephane's vineyards sit above 400 meters. This cooler climate and higher exposition lead to bright and vibrant Rhône wines that challenge the notion of big and jammy southern French reds. These are fresh, fruit-filled, and harmoniously balanced wines. The Petite Bellane is young-vine Syrah produced using n ...

2010 Cayuse "Cailloux Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Coming from a cold, late vintage where the Syrah didn’t ripen until the first part of October, the 2010 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard showed spectacularly in the retrospective. Inky purple in color, it gives up classic floral qualities intermixed with ample olive tapenade, black raspberry, lavender, orange blossom and pepper on the nose. This gives way to a full-bodied, sexy, seamless and yet always elegant Syrah that has juicy acidity and ripe tannin kicking in on the finish. This was the first vintage where they move ...

2017 Paxton "NOW" No Sulfites Added Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

93 points Sam Kim: "This is an intensely coloured and richly fruited Shiraz made using organic grapes with no preservatives. It is gorgeously fragrant on the nose showing blackberry, plum jelly, dark chocolate, hazelnut and floral aromas, followed by a concentrated palate that is dense and delectable. At its best: now to 2020." (03/2018) 90 points James Halliday: "Made without the use of SO2, nor oak. Red wines that don't use oak and are screwcapped change the game for such wines. It's exotic, sappy, and interesting, yet again, like a lot of these 2017s, is on the edge of being green." (06/2018) K&L Notes: Located in the Mendocino appellation of Yorkville Highlands, Halcón overlooks Anderson Valley and the Pacific beyond. It's one of the highest vineyards in California. 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Showing better from bottle than barrel, the elegant and finesse driven 2009 Cayuse Syrah Cailloux Vineyard is heavenly stuff that is every bit as good as the ’08. Possessing brilliant aromas of frambois, crushed flowers, bacon fat, white pepper, and iron on the nose, this full-bodied, seamless ’09 has an incredible, light texture, perfect balance, and a classically structured, firm finish where the wine’s quality shows. (SS)" (09/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Syrah Armada Vineyard offers up aromas of minty cassis, blackberry and plums that mingle with nuances of orange rind, sweet soil and cocoa powder, complemented by hints of bl ...

2018 Donkey & Goat "Gigi's - Sans Soufre" El Dorado County Syrah

*Natural Wine* From the producer: "Our winemaking philosophy and cellar practices have not changed since we made our first wine in 2003. Our vineyards are farmed sustainably/organic/biodynamic and in our cellar our list of ingredients has never ventured beyond minimal effective Sulphur. We have occasionally skipped the Sulphur and have always done so on our Pet Nat wines. But here we have Syrah, picked at the optimum balance and crushed to concrete, with minimal punch down by hand. We pressed off to a mix of neutral and 1-3 year old French Oak barrels. N ...

Wonderfully intense and deep, with powerful dark fruit flavors sexed up by an exotic note of apricot. Finishes with outstanding mounting persistence and restrained sweetness. Giving up classic, Old World Syrah notes of blackcurrants, black olives, smoked meats, ground pepper and violets, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness and is gorgeous, concentrated and expansiveness on the palate, with plenty of of mid-palate depth and length. This wine is dark and brooding in style, with charcoal-laced blackberry fruits. It's full-bodied but not massive, with real energy and drive. It's highly spiced and overly oaky, but rapier-like acidity helps to keep things dynamic. It's almost unbearably powerful at this stage, but not stodgy, and it has a long, tapered finish. Domaine Clos de la Bonnette was purchased in 1992 by wife and husband team, Isabelle Guiller and Henri Montabonnet. Isabelle had her eye on this abandoned vineyard site for many years before they moved forward. The main reason that the site remained unoccupied was because the hillsides were in complete disarray, as many of the stone retaining walls had collapsed over the decades due to neglect.
