2006 Robert Foley Napa Valley Claret

92 points James Suckling: "Full throttle style with loads of blackberry jam and spices on the nose and palate. Fresh mushrooms develop with time. Full and fruity, with polished round tannins. Blackberries and dark chocolate on the finish." (02/2011) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, plum and licorice. Sweet and densely packed, with dark berry and graphite flavors along with a slight dried-fruit character. I find this a bit low-pitched for a Foley wine despite its sound ripe acidity. Finishes with ...

2005 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Decanter: "A boisterous, exuberant vintage of Martha's Vineyard, showing notes of ripe black cherry, mint chocolate and loamy soil tones, with a great deal of fleshy amplitude and energy on the palate. These days, Martha's Vineyard is picked a bit riper and sees a bit more new oak, but by and large the fundamentals remain the same, distinguishing it as a rather classical wine in the modern Napa firmament. (WK)" (06/2016) 94 points John Gilman: "The 2005 Martha’s Vineyard has an absolutely flamboyant nose that soars from the glass in a celesti ...

2009 Staglin Family "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense blue/purple-colored 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate possesses a complex bouquet of black cherry and black currant liqueur, forest floor, baking spice and subtle background oak. This rich, complex, full-bodied 2009 is just beginning to open and show tertiary nuances. It should continue to age well for 20-25 years. (RP)" (10/2013) 95 points Vinous: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with primal energy. Sweet floral notes meld into juicy red berries, spice box and cedar, all of which are laced toget ...

1990 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red (high shoulder fill, signs of past seepage)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Dramatic, with its ripe, rich, plush core of exotic currant, anise, cedar, vanilla and berry notes that are enormously complex on the finish. Delicious. (JL)" (02/2000) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In a blind tasting, this wine did not fool many tasters when served blind. It was quickly identified as a California wine despite the fact that it is made in a Bordeaux-like style. The wine performed well, exhibiting a deep ruby/purple color, a lead pencil, grapy, spicy oak-scented nose, medium body, a tight, more comp ...

2001 Spring Mountain Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon (actually 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot) displays chocolate espresso notes along with some damp earth and black currants in a medium-bodied, drinkable style that has shed most of its tannin. The wine has a nice lushness, and the finish is very good, with no hard edges. It should drink nicely for another decade or more. (RP)" (05/2011)

2003 D.R. Stephens "Premiere Napa Valley" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: “Every year winemaker Celia Masyczek tastes and sniffs her way through the cellar seeking those lots of D.R. Stephens Cabernet Sauvignon that represent the best of the vintage. She sets one such barrel aside for Premiere Napa Valley. This year's selection promises to be special indeed with its dark red color and rich full flavors. 2007 Rubicon Estate "Rubicon" Rutherford Bordeaux Blend

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "New oak stands out in toast and caramelized wood sweetness on this Cab, overshining to some degree the underlying blackberry, cherry and black currant fruit. It’s quite a fashionable, delectable young wine, and will probably be consumed too early by many people who buy it, but it’s really a cellar candidate. Made with a few drops of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, it should develop for 12–15 years. *Cellar Selection*" (12/2010) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Complex aromas of fresh leather, currant, spice, tobacco, black licor ...

97-98 points James Suckling: "Insane nose of pure cassis, minerals, and gorgeous flowers. This is stunning. Full and juicy, with amazing layers of fruit, from cassis to blueberries and hints of vanilla on the great finish. " (04/2011) 97 points Vinous: "Bryant's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is totally gorgeous. Mocha, plums, espresso, rosemary and plums are some of the many notes that burst from the glass in this rich, powerful, totally seductive wine. The 2009 impresses for its sensual personality and sheer class. An impeccable sense of refinement and poli ...

2001 Jones Family Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the finest offerings I have tasted from Jones Family. An inky/purple color is accompanied by sumptuous aromas of sweet blueberry, blackberry, and cassis fruit, licorice, and toasty background oak. This full-bodied, unctuously-textured 2001 possesses tremendous purity, palate presence, and balance. The finish lasts 40+ seconds. (RP)" (12/2003)

2002 Joseph Phelps "Backus" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard is a massive, youthful blockbuster with an opaque purple color as well as firm tannins (despite the general openness and ripeness of the 2002 Napa Cabernets). Almost overly rich, it has a long evolution ahead of it given its firm tannins and off-the-charts concentration and extract. One has to admire this cuvee for its extraordinary structure and multidimensional personality, but at present, even with airing, the primary aromas of new oak, loamy soil, graphite, incense ...

2002 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Araujo has enjoyed an incredible string of top-notch vintages from 2001 through 2005 and again from 2008 through 2010. Extremely youthful at age ten, the 2002 is a candidate for perfection. Its deep ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by a sweet perfume of mocha, caramelized black cherries and currants, and hints of chocolate as well as espresso. With terrific fruit, medium to full body, supple tannin, and well-integrated acidity and alcohol, it should be drunk over the next 8-10 years. Dark cherry and blackberry. Hints of sweet vanilla with enticing mocha and tobacco notes add complexity to the dark, dense layers of fruit. 1999 Etude Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine Spectator: "Enormously complex, deep, dark, rich and polished, with layers of concentrated black cherry, blackberry, currant and anise. Framed by pretty toasty oak, the fruit holds a firm upper hand, turning richly tannic on the finish. Best from 2004 through 2015. " (10/2002) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a tannic vintage for Napa Cabernet, Etude’s 1999 is a stunning success. 1996 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Explosive, somewhat feral, highly aromatic nose of cassis, roast coffee, game, smoky oak and chocolate; shows a very strong torrefaction aspect. Lush, rich and deep; has a pliancy and degree of early personality I find in only the very best young California cabernets. Subtle notes of chocolate and tobacco contribute to the wine appeal. Finishes fairly tannic but very long. Distinctly more layered than the '95. (ST)" (11/1999) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Caberne ...

1996 Pine Ridge "Stags Leap District" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

According to Robert Parker: "The elegant 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. To winemaker Gary Andrus's credit, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. It boasts attractive cedary and black currant fruit, spice, and tobacco scents. In addition to its fragrant personality, it is medium-bodied, restrained and elegant, not massive on the palate, with moderate quantities of sweet fruit." (08/99)

This beauty can be enjoyed now and over the next 10-15+ years. It is easily the most forward of Kenward’s 2008 Cabernets. 1991 Far Niente Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A top-notch effort from Far Niente, this 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon requires several more years of cellaring as it remains closed and forbiddingly backward and tight. From its opaque ruby/purple color, to its impressively pure, rich nose of cassis, herbs, and oak, this full-bodied, powerful, highly extracted, moderately tannic Cabernet is a candidate for 10-15 more years of cellaring. Don't be surprised to see this wine merit an outstanding score in 6-7 years. (RP)" (02/1995) Wine Spectator: "Supple and elegant, with a fine ...

The wine’s dense ruby/purple color is followed by a beautiful, Pauillac-like (think Pontet Canet or Mouton), ethereal perfume of creme de cassis, or as Michael Broadbent used to say, 'celestial black currants,' full body, a velvety texture, fine tannins, a multidimensional mouthfeel, and a terrific finish. ...

Lingers on the finish, showing a pithy edge to the lemon and green stone fruit notes. Drink now through 2019." (06/2015) K&L Notes: In 2013 the winery notes "an early harvest with beautiful, warm weather, that provided long, even ripening for our Chardonnay. 2006 Spottswoode "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The first vintage for Jennifer Williams, 2006, was a low-crop year, with only 2,743 cases produced. The final blend harkens back to the first two vintages of Spottswoode, in being almost 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5% Cabernet Franc with the rest Cabernet Sauvignon). This wine is flowery with terrific fruit intensity and classic Spottswoode elegance and purity. Deep ruby/purple color, youthfulness still to this day and plenty of breadth, depth and richness. (JL, Web Only-2012)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon’s aromas benefit from aeration, beginning life closed and austere, but picking up speed to reveal wonderfully cedary, black currant fruit nicely nuanced by smoky new oak. Really juicy and penetrating, though, and very long on the finish. (ST) 95+" (05/1998) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed red currant, cherry, anise and a sort of melted-chocolate aroma. 1995 Flora Springs "Hillside Reserve" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for blockbuster Cabernet Sauvignon offerings should check out the 1995 and 1996 Hillside Reserve Cabernets from Flora Springs. The winery tends to give this wine 12 months aging in old oak barrels. At the conclusion of that period, the wines are moved into 100% new oak for 10 months. At that point they are racked into tank and bottled unfiltered. This is not dissimilar to how Caymus handles its Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. Sweet red berries, mocha, flowers and mint are some of the many notes that emerge as this nuanced, silky Cabernet opens up over time. There is still plenty of 2009 structure, but it is nicely balanced. The 2009 Cask needs to be cellared or decanted for a few hours in order for all of the elements to come together.
