Eighty Four wines is a collaborative project between Doug Shafer of Shafer winery and his long time winemaker Elias Fernandez. The name comes from 1984 which was the inaugural vintage the two men worked on at Shafer winery together. This is an extremely small project with just 300 cases of Petite Sirah produced and 600 cases of Malbec. It's a very exciting project if you're a fan of Shafer Relentless or other Shafer wines, in which case you owe it to yourself to check out these limited-release offerings.

94 points Wine Spectator: "This is dark, bold and highly aromatic, yet retains a sense of restraint and grace. Sandalwood, white pepper, dried lavender and rosemary give in to ripe, juicy huckleberry and blueberry flavors. The tannins are both mouthfilling and plush. The finish just goes on and on. Drink now through 2030. (MW)" (12/2015) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is big boisterous wine from Elias Fernandez and Doug Shafer that has been given some nice time in bottle after four years in new French oak. It's a viscous, black-as-night kind of exper...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, saturated ruby. Wild, superripe black fruit, meat and pepper aromas perked up by a violet topnote. Supersweet and lush but with plenty of tannic support for the powerful, slightly raisiny dark berry flavors. At once denser and sweeter than the Pepperland, but with no shortage of energy. The huge, dusty tannins coat the front teeth. A chewy, no-holds-barred Petite Sirah that's worth laying down. (ST)" (05/2009) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Intense coffee, spice and cola notes are thickly full-bo...

97 points Vinous: "A huge, explosive wine, the 2014 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge is also remarkably nuanced and vivid for such a big wine. Graphite, charcoal, game, smoke, tobacco and licorice wrap around a core of dark fruit. The tannins are huge and searing, so readers have to be prepared to be patient. Even so, the pedigree of this site perched high atop Howell Mountain comes through loud and clear. What a gorgeous wine this is. In a word: magnificent! (AG)" (12/2016) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Absolutely prodigious, the 2014 Petite...
