2008 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2008 Dom Pérignon is the first time the estate has released a wine out of order (the 2009 was released before the 2008) but the estate loved the wine so much they felt it warranted additional aging. This is a rich, powerful wine that still shows incredible purity and elegance, with a stacked, concentrated feel on the palate. It’s rare to find such a mix of ripe, pure, concentrated fruit paired with this level of purity, focus, and precision. This is a legendary Dom that surpasses all the great vintages of Dom I have experience ...

2008 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2008 Cristal is a perfect wine, and Champagne simple does not get any better. This incredible wine offers a beautiful perfume of clean, crisp fruits, layers of complexity in its toasted spice and white flowers, and an utterly seamless, yet powerful style on the palate. This is a rich, decadent expression of Cristal yet it’s still crystalline and elegant, with no sensation of weight, and it just glides over the palate. Haut Couture at its finest and this majestic, profound, legendary Cristal can be drunk anytime over the comin ...

2012 Michel Arnould "Memoire de Vignes" Brut Champagne

It is hard to beat the Grand Cru of Verzenay for pure class when it comes to Pinot Noir Champagne. The northernmost of all the Grand Crus, the village of Verzenay faces the wrong way, nearly due north, and yet produces nutty, deep yet delicate wines prized by every négociant and Champagne fan alike. We have been lucky enough to work with Patrick Arnould of Champagne Michel Arnould for 18 years now, and he has consistently delivered for our customers, with one of the best values in top-flight grower Champagne: estate grown from Verzenay Grand Cru. 2013 Bagueri Ribolla Gialla Slovenia

97 points Decanter: "A softer style than some with a round, succulently fruity style: grass, plant sap, cardamom and exotic fruits. There’s an Alsace-like or Wachau-like feel to this version. (2018 DWWA)" K&L Notes: The Bagueri is composed of 100% Ribolla Gialla (locally known as Rebula in Slovenia) from 4 different vineyard sites with vine ages between 15 and 40 years of age. This grape thrives on the marl and sandstone soils of Brda (on the western side of Slovenia, near Italy). The grapes are all hand harvested and the wine goes through fermentation ...

2012 Louise Brison Brut Champagne

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Disgorged in September 2017 and released in spring 2018, the 2012 Brut Millésime is a 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, half of which underwent malolactic fermentation. This cuvée opens with a fine, pure and smoky bouquet. Delicate but firm and very mineral on the palate, this is a highly refined and finessed Champagne with lush and aromatic yet graceful cherry fruit. It is pure and elegant on the finish, though it is still young. This is the first release, and 400 bottles will be kept in the library for ...

2011 Egrot (formerly Elisabeth Goutorbe) Grand Cru Brut Champagne

Elisabeth Goutorbe and her husband Jean-Marie Egrot run their tiny production Champagne house almost entirely by themselves. They get very little help from their cat Maurice, but can rely on Elisabeth’s father, René Goutorbe of Champagne Henri Goutorbe for a little bit of help. Of the 15 acres they own in Ay, Louvois, Tauxieres and Mutigny, they only keep the fruit from their 2.5 best—mostly in Ay, but also a touch of Louvois Chardonnay for balance. Their home straddles the border of Ay and Mutigny, two great terroirs in the Gand Valley of the Marne, whi ...

2011 Can Mayol Loxarel "MM" Gran Reserva Brut Nature Classic Penedes

91-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The sparkling rosé 2011 MM de Loxarel is a very pale blend of Xarello with 40% Pinot Noir that matured in bottle with the lees for no less than 42 months. The wine is more orange than pink, perhaps a darker shade of amber, and does not have any character of a rosé. Instead, it's leesy and a bit earthy, and the palate is very tasty, with yeasty flavors and a saline, almost marine sensation in the finish. It's moving at a slow pace but definitively maturing and developing some honeyed undertones. I think the pre ...

2009 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Dilection" Brut Rosé Champagne (Previously $80)

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750, and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2009 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the finish, which lingers.

2014 Site Wines "Stolpman Vineyard" Roussanne Santa Barbara County

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the best Roussannes I was able to taste from California, Weintraub’s 2014 Roussanne Stolpman Vineyards is a fresh, lively, yet also rich and full-bodied white that has rocking notes of buttered citrus, flower oil, brioche and honeysuckle. Aged eight months in neutral oak, it’s a head-turner readers should snatch up. It should drink nicely for at least 2-4 years. Stephan Reinhardt writes: "Wow! Of all the producers I have met and the wines I have tasted during my Champagne tour in April and May this year, the cuvées from Champagne Pierre Paillard were among the most stunning. The domaine and the vineyards are entirely located in Bouzy Grand Cru, arguably one of the finest addresses in the Montagne de Reims if not in the entire Champagne region. 2010 Bruno Michel "Les Brousses" 1er Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

This gem of a blanc de blancs is in fact a single-vineyard wine from the "Les Brousses" parcel in the Premier Cru village of Pierry, immediately to the south of Epernay. The vineyard is a massal selection (not made from cloned vines) that was planted in 1964. It is given full barrel fermentation in old oak. Like many of the talented Mr. Bruno "the Mayor" Michel's Champagnes, this wine manages to combine friendly breadth and creamy deliciousness with top-notch minerality and length... What a wine!

It also shines in the perfect balance between the texture, the minerality and the integration of the fruit. This small, all estate grown Champagne is sourced from only one vineyard, the Clos Boursault, an ancient walled vineyard just west of Epernay on the Marne. They make only a tiny amount of vintage at Le Gallais, and we only received 36 bottles of this wine. It is a blend of half each Pinot Noir and Meunier from old vines on the property dosed at just 4 grams per liter. It doesn't need more than that, as this is a real 2009, with ripe power to spare. 2013 Pierre Paillard "Les Mottelettes" Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

Blanc de blancs from Bouzy? Yes--and what a blanc de blancs it is! This single-varietal, single-vineyard, single-harvest Champagne comes entirely from the Les Motellettes parcel which was planted in 1961. Quentin Paillard, his brother and his father all wanted to make terroir Champagne from their best, oldest plots--the very plots that they use to propagate the massal selections for the rest of their vineyard. The palate has a svelte and elegant shape. Smoother than the 2002, it shares the same quality of precision but not the raging power of that vintage. The Cristal I tasted at Roederer in May 2018 was disgorged in 2010, after seven years sur lie. Its amazing richness and concentration makes it a forerunner of the 2015 and follows the 1999.
