2012 Eighty Four Napa Valley Malbec

Eighty Four wines is a collaborative project between Doug Shafer of Shafer winery and his long time winemaker Elias Fernandez. The name comes from 1984, which was the inaugural vintage the two men worked on at Shafer winery together. This is an extremely small project with just 300 cases of Petite Sirah produced and 600 cases of Malbec. A very exciting project; if you're a fan of Shafer Relentless or other Shafer wines you owe it to yourself to check out these limited release offerings.

2015 Devil Proof "Rockpile Ridge Vineyard" Alexander Valley Malbec

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Slightly more exotic, as well as fresh, the 2015 Malbec Devil Proof Rockpile Ridge (barrel-fermented and aged two years in new oak) gives up lots of blue fruits, spring flowers, hints of citrus rind, and sappy flowers. Like the Farrow Ranch, it has good acidity, a silky texture, building tannin, and a singular character. It's a sensational Malbec that's up with the crème de la crème of this variety. Hats off to winemaker Jesse Katz for this truly sensational red! Devil Proof Vineyards is a collaboration between father and son And ...

2015 Mt. Brave Mt. Veeder Malbec

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Inky purple-black colored, the 2015 Malbec Mt. Veeder gives up a very unusual (in a good way!) savory/meaty nose over a core of black currants and blackberries with touches of Indian spices, chargrill and sautéed herbs. Full-bodied, very firm and very fresh in the mouth, the rock solid, muscular black fruit is tautly framed, finishing long and savory. Give it another 2-3 years in bottle and drink it over the next 25+. (LPB)" (12/2017) 93 points Vinous: "The 2015 Malbec is fabulous. Super-ripe red cherry and plu ...

2016 Devil Proof "Rockpile Ridge Vineyard" Alexander Valley Malbec

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Also all Malbec, the 2016 Malbec Rockpile Ridge comes from an incredible site in Sonoma and spent a full two years in new French oak. It too is deeply colored and offers a massive bouquet of blackcurrants, crème de cassis, crushed violets, graphite, and white flowers. This is Malbec at its sexiest and most opulent, and it’s beautifully balanced, has a seamless, layered texture, moderate acidity, building tannins, and is one seriously powerful bottle of Malbec to drink over the coming 20 years or more. I’d put this in the running f ...

2009 Ladera Howell Mountain Malbec

Winery Notes: "Ladera Malbec fruit is sourced exclusively from our Howell Mountain vineyard. Rooted in decomposed volcanic ash and red clay soils, the vines produce intensely flavored berries with great balance and inherit structure. Carefully selected barrels make up this 100% Malbec comprised from the most promising lots of the vintage. The grapes were harvested at night to preserve the fresh fruit characters, then hand sorted and gently de-stemmed to small open-top fermenters. After a five day cold-soak, gentle maceration techniques were employed thro ...
