2007 Thiénot "Black Ball" Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne (Previously $120)

Absolutely incredible opportunity on this creamy, supple blanc de blancs that still has great focus and precision and superior, long, mineral finish. Like all of the Thienot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly seventy acres of vines. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer) From the winery: "In 1985 Alain Thiénot launched his eponymous Champagne House, driven by his experience as a courtier and close-knit relationships with Champagne growers. This was quite a challenge in a sector where the greatest names began their ...

Fluteau Brut Rosé Champagne

Wow, is this stuff is dark! If you are interested in tasting a 'red wine' Champagne, this is your opportunity. This potent, even tannic Champagne reminds me very much of red wine, but with wonderful bubbles. It is entirely estate grown Pinot Noir, from the Fluteau estate in Gye-Sur-Seine. Made by macerating all of the grape skins so they stay in contact with the juice to get the maximum flavor and color. This rosé is a great bottle for a picnic with cold cut sandwiches, or even with dessert. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer) The base wine is from 2010 ...

From the producer: "Champagne Fluteau, established in 1935, is one of the oldest family owned and operated wineries in the Aube region of Champagne making estate grown and produced champagnes. Now being run by Thierry and Jennifer Fluteau, representing the fourth generation of the family, whom together with their son, Jeremy, share a desire to make premium, hand crafted champagnes that reflect the unique soils and climate of their Cote de Bars property. Fluteau "Cuvée Réservée" Brut Champagne

Wine Enthusiast: "This family-owned producer based in the Aube has made a ripe Pinot Noir-dominated wine. It's full and structured with light tannins and minerality. Its acidity and ripe currant fruit lend balanced richness. Drink now. (RV)" (06/2017) K&L Notes: This Champagne is aged on its lees for a minimum of three years. This extended time on the yeast cells infuses the wine with a robust, creamy texture. The blend is mainly Pinot Noir (85%) with 15% Chardonnay. Golden-yellow with a lively, lovely bead and a fine, persistent stream of bubbles, thi ...

2004 Krug Brut Champagne

97 points James Suckling: "This is an extremely fresh edition and remains in a restrained mode with an intense serve of Chardonnay's lemon citrus dominating the nose alongside lime zest, bright florals, grassy elements, fresh dough, white stones and very subtle background spice. The palate has a svelte and elegant shape. Smoother than the 2002, it shares the same quality of precision but not the raging power of that vintage. The poise is unquestionable, the wine very reserved, with plenty of lemon-infused citrus flavors, hints of fresh cashew and a lot o ...

Canard-Duchêne "Charles VII" Brut Rosé Champagne

90 points Vinous: "(a blend of 50% pinot noir and 50% chardonnay; L8T2XA31): Pale salmon skin color. Delicate, floral-accented aromas and flavors of strawberry, rose pastille and orange zest. Brisk and linear on the palate, which shows very good clarity and refreshing spiciness. Closes clean and long, with a touch of bitter citrus pith and a resonating floral note. (JR)" (12/2012) Jancis Robinson: "Pale pretty pink with a tinge of apricot. Light red fruit aromas with a subtle, very attractive, hint of mushroom and damp earth. Packed with tangy fruit - ...

2008 Philipponnat "Clos de Goisses" Extra Brut Champagne (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Vinous: "The 2008 Clos des Goisses is just as impressive today as it has always been. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2008 exists in three dimensions, with remarkable textural depth and vertical intensity to burn. Clos des Goisses is notoriously slow to develop. Readers who can be patient will be treated to a spectacular Champagne. The blend is 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir, which makes the 2008 a rare Clos des Goisses that favors Chardonnay. About 75% of the lots were fermented in oak. (AG)" (07/2018) 96 points Decanter: "Shimmering pale ...

(AN, Web-2016)" Wine Enthusiast: "Crisp and dry, this is tight with acidity and with red-currant fruit. It is mineral textured, shot through with crisp red-berry flavors and finished with a refreshing aftertaste. 1989 Veuve Clicquot "La Grande Dame" Brut Champagne

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Yeasty, vinous, Pinot driven aromas of red berries and earth. Large-scaled and mouthfilling, with excellent intensity and subtle notes of apple, lemon and toast. Has a perfumed quality in the mouth. Subtle and very long and nicely balanced for the vintage. (ST)" (11/1998) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Assertive but not overt, this has toasty, nutty, buttery aromas and flavors, quite a dry balance, bright acidity and a broad but firm texture. Should develop even more flavor with time." (12/1998) 90 p ...

1988 Krug Brut Champagne (from a private collection, scuffed label)

98 points Wine Spectator: "A superb Champagne and still youthful. Honey, ginger, lemon confit, coffee and mineral aromas and flavors come to mind, all kept focused by a firm, tightly wound structure. The finish is where its pedigree shines through, lingering like warm gingerbread and coffee. (BS)" (10/2003) 97 points Vinous: "The 1988 Krug makes for a fabulous start. Tasted from a perfect bottle, the 1988 remains bright and focused, with all of the energy of this great vintage very much on display. Time has naturally softened some of the contours and a ...

Drink now through 2025. (AN)" (11/2013) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a 50/50 blend of chardonnay and pinot noir; L1R1YD19): Bright yellow. 2007 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

98 points James Suckling: "This is a step up from the linear and fresh 2006. It shows subtle depth and power with a dense block of vivid fruit that's highlighted with lemon zest, green apples and hints of white peaches. Just the right amount of praline and nuts on the nose. Fine and tight bead give the Champagne a luxurious mouthfeel. One for now or the cellar. Drink or hold. Thienot Brut Champagne

91 points James Suckling: "Plenty of bright, ripe-fruit aromas here – rich peaches, pears and grilled almonds. The palate has a very composed feel and a deeper, savory attitude with light honey and grilled nuts. A lot of character for the first cuvée. 2013 base with 45 percent reserve wine. " (07/2018) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This finely balanced wine is both crisp and fruity. Zingy acidity and lemon crispness are contrasted by riper apple and pear fruitiness. 2002 Thienot "Cuvée Alain Thiénot" Brut Champagne

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Only produced in the best years, such as 2002, this is a 60-40 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Grand Cru vineyards. This intense wine is well-balanced and packed with fruit tones, yet seems to be just approaching maturity. It is full, generous and tightly textured. (RV)" (12/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Lively and well-knit, this is backed by vibrant acidity that drives flavors of baked pear, grated ginger, marzipan and lemon curd. (RV)" (12/2016) 92 points Wine Spectator: "An expressive version, with vibrant acidity providing fine cut, and flavors of wild berry, toasted brioche, orange pâte de fruit and clover honey riding the finely detailed bead.
