The Millet Sancerre has been a favorite here at K&L for a long time. Grown in limestone-clay soil, the wine reflects the terroir wonderfully. The flavors are bright with lime, mineral, passion fruit, and that wonderful chalkiness one wants from a Sancerre. This wine over delivers and pairs beautifully with oily seafood dishes and of course, your favorite cheeses.

Les Vignerons de Fontes is a cooperative winemaking facility in the hills outside the village of Pezenas in the Languedoc. Oenologist Corinne Pastourel oversees the project, which has a host of growers spread throughout the region over a range of soils including schist, basalt, limestone and clay. Thirty of these growers formed the cooperative in the 1930s and now their numbers surpass 200. K&L co-founder Clyde Beffa met Corinne years ago and forged the relationship that would bring us some of our most popular value wines coming from the south of France....

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "An invitingly herbal and woodsy initial aroma of sage, nutmeg and cassia bark; more minutes find the juniper behind the assertive spice and herb flavorings. The palate entry is round, semisweet and moderately oily; at midpalate the taste is of rosemary and coriander and pepper. Finishes elegantly, firmly and squeaky clean. Best Buy." (06/2006)

Bernheim Original Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey 750ml (ships as 1.5L) (Previously $30) (Previously $30)
Back In Stock!
90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Initial scents are floral and wheat cracker-like; aeration adds deeper, mildly sweet aromas of sap, fresh vanilla bean and light honey. Palate entry is finely balanced with wood, moderately sweet grain and acidity; by midpalate the alcohol warms the throat with off-dry flavors of charred oak, light toffee and sap. Finishes elegant and warm. A true sipping whiskey." (12/2005) K&L Notes: Heaven Hill's father and son Master Distillers team of Parker and Craig Beam developed the wheat formula for this whiskey using a minimum ...

One of our most popular sparklers is now available in magnums! Mas Codina is a 40 hectare estate in Penedès which dates back to 1681. This Brut Reserva Cava was hand-harvested from 25 to 40-year-old vines and estate bottled. Vines are planted in calcareous and sandy clay soils that keep the wine minerally and lively. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, and is aged on its lees for a minimum of two years before disgorgement. Varietals include Macabeo, Xarel-lo, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 100% hand riddled as well! Since we direct impo...

Made by winemaker Julien Braud, a top-notch Muscadet producer, this rosé is a blend of 53% Gamay, 33% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Pineau d'Aunis. The fun packaging and reasonable price may lead you to believe this is all a gimmick--when a social media blitz erupted over the 2016 Forty Ounce, it became one of our biggest surprise hits of 2017--but don’t let the package fool you, this is a serious rosé with vibrant pink hue laced with gorgeous flavors of white cherries and strawberry with a hint of marjoram. The palate is full for a rosé and keeps ...

Composed of the same grapes in the same percentages as the Crianza, the Reserva is a barrel selection of wines that Angel feels can undergo longer aging in barrel and then in bottle. Aged a total of 27 months in barrels, then into concrete for more than a year, the Reserva also sees bottle aging until Angel deems it ready for release. This wine ramps up the intensity of the Crianza, with more pungent fruit as well as a real spicy and wild quality. As with many of the best Riojas, this wine is quite delicious right now if you want to drink some bottles wh...

91 points James Suckling: "A red with cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors. Medium body. Attractive acidity to the ripe fruit on the palate. Really enjoyable." (07/2019) K&L Notes: Lesmos is back, and now in magnums, the ideal size for parties and for extended aging in your cellar! All estate fruit, hand harvested, and carefully vinified with native yeasts, this is a hand-sewn wine with the purity, texture, and elegance to prove it. Produced from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Mazuelo, the wine shows a rather Burgundian nose of cherries and plums, opening...

1990 Bel-Air Lagrave Haut Medoc (1.5L)
Top Pick!
This little-known property makes super-value, old-school wines. Clive Coates sings its praises in the Wines of Bordeaux: "The vineyard, in the process of being enlarged, lies on the Grand Poujeaux plateau. The estate, which has belonged to the same family for 150 years, is run on biological lines, the wine being matured in one-third new oak. There is more character and less of a four-square tendency here than is found at many of its neighbors. A wine to watch."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Cotes de Provence Rose La Belle Helene contains a bit of Rolle, which perhaps accounts for its aromas of grapefruit and white currants. It's light to medium-bodied on the palate, loaded with tart, citrusy flavors that extend through the finish. (JC)" (04/2019) Vinous: "Pale shimmering orange. Lively, mineral-tinged red berries and pink grapefruit on the nose and in the mouth. Taut and nicely focused, showing good energy and a deeper suggestion of nectarine on the clinging finish. Drink through 2022. (JR)" (08/20...

The cool Carneros region, where San Pablo Bay meets both Napa and Sonoma Valleys, provides beautiful, fresh acidity and the key sense of balance for these fan-favorite Chardonnays. Rombauer has been producing the Carneros-specific Chardonnay since 1990, and the 2018 is another pristine example of this classic style balancing bold fruit and lively acidity.

90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: " The delicate perfume is softly grainy, with nuances of white pepper, wheat crackers and cigarette tobacco. The palate entry is elegant yet a touch hot; at midpalate the dry flavor turns silky in texture and minerally and stone-like in taste. Concludes bean- and kernel-like, bittersweet and a touch soy curd-like. A subtle, understated vodka with lots of layers and grip. " (06/2006) K&L Notes: The same incredible vodka as Jewel of Russia Ultra without the expensive, hand-painted bottle. Possibly the best vodka available at...

2010 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "Fresh blueberries and brambleberries take center stage, which is striking for a wine of this age. There are also lots of roasted herbs, such as sage, not to mention floral elements, including lavender and dried violets. Then come cedar, sandalwood and tar. The tannins are incredibly round and soft, without the slightest hint of anything dry. This is among the most elegant of Riojas, where the acidity is wonderfully pronounced and cuts right through any touch of dried fruit. Long and powerful, yet subtle on the finish. Drink now...

2016 Figeac, St-Émilion (1.5L)
Top Pick!
100 points Vinous: "The 2016 Figeac was bottled at the end of July 2018, since Frédéric Faye wanted to give the wine more time in barrel to develop more harmony. The stunning 24-carat bouquet rivets you to the spot with brilliant delineation and mineral-rich red fruit that articulates its terroir as well as any Right Bank you will find. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin, perfect acidity, wonderfully integrated new oak and enormous depth toward the fresh, pencil-box- and cedar-infused finish. This is a classic Figeac, up there with the 1947 a...

A rich ruby red with notes of violets and red berry fruits, this Cabernet Franc is nicely layered on the palate with brightness running throughout and just a touch of smoke mixed in with some purple fruits. Soft waves of mineral with a nice soft tannin make this a true delight to drink. Domaine les Pins has been family run for five generations. They are a small artisanal producer that oversees every stage of production from start to finish themselves. They have roughly 30 hectares of Cabernet Franc spread out through the Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bo...

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "The opening aroma is marvelously beany and grassy; later, sweetish flavors of dark caramel, chimney soot, and dark, old honey make scrumptious inhaling. The palate entry is honeyed, warm, and cocoa-like; at midpalate the grassy, weedy, cane-like taste balances the honeyed sweetness. Concludes cocoa-like, intense yet smooth, and memorably sweet. *Best Buy*" (06/2006)

Made by the Millet family who have been running the estate for five generations. Vigneron Nicolas Millet has taken the helm of this family operation, originally established in the 1930s, and began moving the winemaking toward organics in 2008. Nicolas makes wonderful blancs and rouges but the rosé is always a standout in the category. The Côtes Blanches refers to the stony white soils found on the slopes of Sancerre in the heart of France. This is the homeland of light, delicate Pinot Noir, made into fresh reds and elegant rosés. The Sancerre Rosé is aro...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "As to the red, rocking levels of kirsch, black raspberries, toasted spices, and garrigue emerge from the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It's full-bodied, concentrated, pure and elegant, with sweet tannin, and an opulent, flamboyant style. Based largely on Grenache, with smaller amounts of Syrah and Mourvèdre, it has fine tannin, impeccable balance, and a great finish. Along with the 2010, it’s the finest wine to date from this estate." (08/2018) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I appear to have underestimated the 2016 Châtea...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Barbaresco is a tight and beautiful wine that will require more time to unwind and soften. This beautifully balanced vintage is characterized by a tight inner core of fruit that underlines the graceful aging capacity of these wines. The 2016 is shaping up to be one destined for long cellar aging. Now in its youth, the wine offers wild berry, rose and licorice aromas. 92 points Wine Spectator: "Distinctive, with lots of singed sage, sassafras, black tea and bay leaf notes out front, giving this aromatic distinction while the core of gently mulled plum, black cherry and raspberry fruit is carried by lightly dusty tannins. Shows a lingering perfume of singed alder at the very end. (JM)" (08/2019) K&L Notes: Silver Oak has been producing top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley and Alexander Valley in Sonoma County since 1972. There's no wine like Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2017 vintage shows in spades what this brand is all about. Luxurious opulence on an unrivaled scale defines this wine year in and year out. Domaine Côtes Blanches was established in the 1930s by Bernard and Pierre Millet. In 1980, it was time for the second generation to take the reins, so François and Monique expanded the estate to 21 hectares of vines (15 Sauvignon, 6 Pinot Noir). After returning from his studies in Beaune five years ago, Nicolas (son of François and Monique) joined the family-run estate and brought a new energized passion. The family is dedicated to the land and the environment by which they are surrounded. All farming is done organically, harvest dates are dictated by na...

The 2018 Château de la Noblesse Bandol Rosé has yet to be reviewed, but Josh Raynolds gave the 2017 vintage 90 points along with this review: "Light, vivid orange. Pungent, mineral-accented blood orange and red berry scents, with a subtle floral note in the background. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering raspberry and lavender flavors that are braced by a refreshingly bitter citrus pith note. Shows very good clarity and persistence on the finish, which leaves a dusty mineral note behind."

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The assemblage of the 2015 Cotes du Rhone includes only 50% Grenache, with the balance made up of 20% Syrah, 15% Carignan, 10% Cinsault and 5% Counoise. Perhaps as a result, it displays ample complexity on the nose and palate, with scents and flavors reminiscent of thyme, lavender and bay leaf alongside cherry and red berry fruit. It's medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, dry finish that elevates it well above ordinary. No, it's not a massive blockbuster, but it's a fine, elegant, unoaked table wine at a...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The sweet corn aroma right after the pour is enticing, clean, and soft; aeration further stimulates an appetizing corn-like sweetness. The palate entry is more bittersweet than the aroma, but just as seductive; at midpalate there's a focused lead-pencil taste that brings the grainy sweetness into check. Finishes sweet, warming and a tad prickly. Best Buy." (06/2006) K&L Notes: Special order items are not in stock and are dependent upon quantity available from distribution. A beautiful terroir skillfully worked by Jérômine Paret and Philippe Garnier. Responding to the call of his parents, Jérômine gave up a career as an English teacher to take over the family estate. She then studied business and allied herself with Philippe Garnier, who has one goal in mind: to achieve excellence. She does not regret her choices today and her customers don't either! Thus, the estate evolves each year with new wines and techniques. The organically-farmed grapes for the rosé are evenly split between Carignan and Grenache with a touch each of...

2016 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (1.5L)
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "Very rich and exotic with blackberry, black-tea, graphite and lead-pencil aromas. Full-bodied, dense and structured with lots of ripe tannins and a long, flavorful finish of currants and forest floor, combined with fresh mushrooms and bark. Needs four to five years to show its true potential. Try after 2024." 96 points James Suckling: "Very attractive, plush and rich red and dark-fruit aromas with beautifully integrated oak and youthful, spicy complexity. 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is another benchmark wine from Tuscany that shows the incredible potential of this iconic vintage. This beautiful single-vineyard Sangiovese reveals a graceful side with dark fruit intensity, cherry, plum, fresh violets and tilled earth. Tar, tobacco and licorice appear as delicate background tones, giving more volume and texture to the wine's sensorial impact. Vigna del Sorbo shows its own precise identity that is fiercely faithful to Sangiovese, but that ...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Condrieu Les Terrasses de L'Empire has a portion brought up in oak, all being used, and it's always a great introduction into the wines of this estate. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless, it has terrific purity (especially given the heat in the vintage) as well as lots of white flower, salted citrus, tangerine, and a kiss of rocky minerality. Nicely concentrated as well as balanced, this brilliant wine is not far off the two pricier releases." (12/2019)

97 points Vinous: "Luminous red. High-pitched aromas of sour red cherry, raspberry, rose, stainless steel, white pepper and minerals. Dense and silky in texture but displays great juiciness, clarity and floral lift; the lively but harmonious acidity really lifts and frames the bright red and mineral flavors. Totally saturates the palate and yet comes off as virtually weightless. This hauntingly beautiful wine showcases everything Brunello can be when made from an ultra-competent producer farming Sangiovese vines that grow in what is a real grand cru sect...

Drink or hold." (08/2018) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled only a week before my visit, I was blown away by how well Beaucastel's 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape was showing. A Cru Bourgeois property that excels for its classification, Lilian Ladouys is annually one of the steals of any given vintage, and cellared bottlings can be a prime opportunity to experience the sublime grace of aged Bordeaux without breaking the bank. 1989 was the first vintage under the ownership of Christian Thiéblot, a move that noted French wine authority Clive Coates marks as a turning point for the château, setting a standard which continues today: "From the very first vintage under the Thiéblot regime, it established itself in the top rank of Sa...

Its deep purple color is followed by a classy bouquet of ripe black cherries, cassis, graphite, licorice, and crushed rocks. Deep, medium to full-bodied, with beautiful mid-palate and ripe, silky tannins, it's a beautiful success for the estate, which appears to be firing on all cylinders today thanks to the talented team of David Suire and Nicolas Thienpont!" 2017 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L)
Top Pick!
95 points Decanter: "At Beaucastel the Grenache and Cinsault are fermented in cement while the Syrah and Mourvèdre are fermented in foudre. The result features finely pixellated fruits of the forest on the nose, with a full-bodied but mightily fresh and lively palate. The Mourvèdre element is strong this year, bringing vibrancy and power. It's firmly savoury, very dry and dramatic. A very tannic year has produced a seriously structured Beaucastel for the long term. (MW)" (10/2018) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape is another sunny, b...

Very serious. Almost no new oak. This shows the Mayacamas DNA. " (01/2018) 96 points Vinous: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon shows the best qualities of the year to great effect. Powerful, incisive and tannic, yet also medium-bodied in structure, the 2014 is laser-focused and exceptionally beautiful. Precision and finely sculpted, the 2014 is going to need at least...

Monte Rio Cellars started as a passionate discussion, quickly became an intriguing idea, and grew into a dream project between renowned sommelier Patrick Cappiello and cult winemaker Pax Mahle. Rubired is a little known varietal that is a hybrid of Tinto Cão and Alicante Ganzin. Unusually the grape has colored flesh and produces intensely colored, rich wines of real character. The grape has long been used as the backbone for inexpensive table wines from the Central Valley and yet rarely gets a chance to shine as a single varietal. Here Monte Rio cellars ...
