98 points Wine Enthusiast: "So enormously delicious, it will be hard to keep from drinking this gorgeous Cabernet right away, and that’s just fine. It’s composed of the most intensly concentrated flavors of blueberries and blackberries-dense, pure and slightly heady with a liqueur-like alcohol. The tannins are classic Diamond Mountain, firm and minerally, while oak plays the perfect role of the buttered toast and sweetly charred supporting character. Despite its immediate attraction, it’s best cellared for 6-8 years, at the very least. *Editor's Choice, ...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a 40-40 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, with the balance consisting of Merlot. It's a barrel selection of the winery's best lots, from its various vineyards, and has been aged in 100% new French oak. Yet it's not oaky at all, with the wood bringing only additional sweet, smoky richness to the red currants, cherries, dark chocolate and spices. This is a superb wine, delicious right out of the bottle, but it should develop and, depending on your tastes, improve over the next 20 years. " (07/2013) 92 point...

92 points James Suckling: "Lovely softness and balance to this wine. Aromas and flavors of currants and blueberries. Medium-to full-bodied. Refined and beautiful now." (02/2020) K&L Notes: Faust comes from the owners of Napa Valley's Quintessa.

93 points Wine Spectator: "An immense wine, loaded with complex, concentrated flavors, centered around ripe cherry, currant and kirsch, supported by firm, dusty, chewy tannins and finishing with hints of anise, sage and mineral flavors. (JL)" (09/2002) 90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, blueberry, licorice, lead pencil and Cuban tobacco. Dense and powerful but rather elegant; the petit verdot contributes to the wine tactile impression. Still rather austere; this will need considerable bottle aging...

98 points James Suckling: "Amazing aromas of licorice, wet earth, orange peel and lavender. Full body, tight and super compact and polished. Goes on for minutes. Clearly great." (06/2019) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Fontalloro is the best vintage of this landmark wine that I have tasted thus far. This is a very elegant vintage, with more volume in the mouth and precise notes of tar, licorice, camphor ash, resin and Indian spice. In a race between the highly competitive 2015 and 2016 vintages, I give a slight advantage to this win...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "From one of the oldest vineyards on Diamond Mountain, this Bordeaux blend is impressively powerful and balanced. Based on Cabernet, with small quantities of Merlot, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, it has oak-influenced black and red currant, cassis, cherry, spicy plum pudding and sweet, smoky vanilla flavors, with a cedar, pencil-lead note reminiscent of a fine Pauillac." (05/2008)

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This portion of the winery's vineyard always yields Cabernets of enormous concentration with hard tannins. The 2009 is a classic, detonating in the mouth with laserlike blackberry and cassis flavors, to which new oak brings additional richness of smoky cedar. It's really a beautiful wine, but very tannic, even by Von Strasser standards. Give it at least eight years, and it could be drinking well 20 years from now. *Cellar Selection* " (10/2012) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep, dark red. Arom...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The primary production of the estate, the 2017 Terrasses du Larzac La Réserve d’O is a blend of 45% each Grenache and Syrah, plus 10% Cinsault. Aged in tank and amphorae, it's a delicious blend of cherries, raspberries and blueberries with garrigue and violets. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky in texture, with only soft, ephemeral tannins on the finish. (JC)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: We met Marie Chauffray at the Vinifilles tasting in January of 2015 in Montpellier. The Vinifilles (which means "wine girls") is an ...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A brilliant wine that shows the world how delicious young Napa Valley Cabernet can be. Just dazzles with the richness and purity of blackberry, mocha, leather and cedar flavors, with a finish you can measure in minutes. Bordeaux yearns for such ripeness." (11/2010) 92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Any who might doubt the reality of terroir need look no further than these Von Strasser lovelies, for, while all show the same, similarly careful winemaking hand, each of the wines is discrete and speak with their own voice. This par...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A beautifully rich, complex mountain wine that wants some time in the cellar. Dry and complex in tannin structure, it shows flamboyant blackberry, cherry, raspberry, chocolate, roasted almond and brown sugar flavors, as delicious as a succulent granola candy bar. Already throwing some sediment, it's fine now and should develop at least through 2015. " (11/2010) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Again a very rich and deeply fruited wine whose unmistakable themes of sweet currants mark it indelibly as Cabernet, this supple, fairl...

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Opulent, spicy aromas of blackberry, plum and cassis, with dark chocolate, mocha, licorice and lightly toasty, creamy vanillin oak. Sumptuous, powerful and creamy, presenting a perfectly ripened, vibrant palate dripping with impressively concentrated and luscious dark berry, plum and olive flavors, wrapped in new vanillin oak. The wine's firm, tightly knit tannins contribute to its excellent cut. Goes to prove that Australian shiraz can be big, ripe and beautiful without being overdone...
Price: $149.99

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Always an intricately built wine, exotic and ripe. Right now, it's a contradiction. So silky in the mouth, it could almost be a Pinot Noir, except it has Cab's tannins, and the blackberry and cherry fruit has a powerful intrusion of cassis. Those tannins are notable. They intrude at every step of the way, suggesting time in the cellar. *Cellar Selection*" (11/2011) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "This bottling wins kudos for being the most elegant of the highly rated offerings from Von Strasser. Mind, it is no shrinking viole...

100 points James Suckling: "The aromas to this are incredible with blueberry, minerals, dried flowers, and stones. It goes to dried meat and spices. Full body and incredibly integrated with blackberry, licorice, and minerals. There's a wonderful purity to this. It goes on for minutes. The quality of tannins is amazing. Seamless. There's an amazing transparency that shows you all the elements of the wine's unique terrior." (02/2013) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely amazing wine ... It comes from one of the few biodynamic vineyard...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A very beautiful, intricate and complex Cabernet, but one that needs time in the cellar. The balance is beyond question. The heart of black currants subtlely tinged with mushu plum sauce and tar, is delicious. The oak is smoky and fine. But the tannins are fierce. Don't touch it before 2012. *Cellar Selection*" (12/2009)

96 points James Suckling: "Lovely black-cherry, lavender and rose-petal character on the nose. Full body and firm, tight tannins that add structure and depth. Extremely long and intense. Excellent. " (09/2019) 92 points Vinous: "Dark soil, savory spice, and smoky mineral tones waft up from the glass, as Ferrero's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino draws me closer to find black raspberry and balsamic tones in a display which is ripe yet also grounded in the earth. On the palate, dark, fleshy textures give way to ripe black fruits, complemented by savory herbs,...
Price: $94.99

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is an enormous Cabernet, as packed with intensity and power as anything in Napa Valley. The vineyard is Von Strasser's highest on the mountain, which maximally exposes it to the sun, and you can taste the solar ripeness in the intense essence of black currants and dark chocolate. The tannins exhibit classic Diamond Mountain potency. This is a dense Cabernet that needs serious time in the cellar. Hold until 2019, and it will continue to develop for many years afterward." (07/2013)
Price: $119.99

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: " *Two Stars* This superb bottling impresses from the very first sniff with its complex array of currants, blueberries, dark spices and hints of herbs and wonderfully rich and creamy oak in outgoing, youthfully alive aromas. Its supple entry to the palate is followed by great depth of flavor and an evident spine of tannin that will keep the wine on course for years." (08/2009) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Tight and unyielding at first, this wine's tannins soften as they take on air, turning sleek. It has elegant length of fr...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Bright, with cherry, damson plum and raspberry coulis flavors streaming through, flanked by floral and rooibos tea hints and carrying through a racy, sanguine-tinged finish that is sneakily long. Well done. Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best from 2020 through 2035. (JM)" K&L Notes: One of our most popular direct imports, the price-to-quality ratio we've found in these wines year after year is simply unbeatable. Our customers have come to rely on this family-run winery to provide great quality, drinkability and value. The 2014 was t...

98-100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The very nearly completed (being prepped for bottling in July 2019) 10th installment of this incredible “home” vineyard expression from Sine Qua Non’s Cumulus vineyard knocks it out of the park. The Next of Kin 2016 Cumulus Vineyard No. 10 is composed of 46% Syrah, 19% Grenache, 18.3% Petite Sirah, 15.3% Mourvedre and 1.4% Petit Manseng, using 23% whole clusters. It will have spent around 34 months in French oak barrels, 75% new. (LPB)" (06/2019) 99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Just about pure perfection in a glass...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good dark ruby; slightly hazy. Sappy aromas of black cherry, currant, espresso and earth. Silky and stuffed with fruit. Acidity (from the substantial Petit Verdot component?) is still a bit pronounced, but this wine has the sheer extract to harmonize with bottle aging. Quite powerfully structured and very long on the aftertaste, though not as subtle as the regular '96. (ST)" (06/1999)

97 points James Suckling: "A tight and focused Le Vigne with strawberry, orange-peel and floral aromas and hints of hazelnuts. Not giving it all now. Full-bodied, very intense and focused. Extremely long and polished, tannic finish." (01/2019) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe black-skinned berry, pipe tobacco, ground clove and star anise lead the way on this full-bodied red. The smooth, tightly knit palate offers succulent black cherry, cranberry compote, coconut and espresso alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. A licorice note graces the finish. (KO)...

Coralie Onde is from the winemaking family behind Domaine les Ondines, but opted to start her own project independent of her family estate in 2008. She formed Domaine de la Ganse in Vacqueyras when she purchased some terrific old vine fruit, also taking a small holding when the family estate was split. With close to 9 hectares now, Coralie began the organic certification process and was officially certified in 2014. Her vines are aged from 15 to 55 years and the soils are primarily chalky-clay with some galet (river stones). The 2017 is about 70% Grenach...

This Gran Reserva is from some of their oldest Tempranillo and Graciano vines, planted in 1931 and 1946. It is elegant, generous and a precociously delicious treat for now, or over the next 15 years. Miguel Merino makes, as he likes to put it, an "updated classic" style of Rioja, all from his own 2 hectares of vines and several hectares of vineyards owned by a close friend. All the fruit is from sloped vineyards (Miguel is a fan of his slopes) within the cooler climate Rioja Alta town of Briones, which makes his wine a terrific showcase of the terroir (e...

94 points James Suckling: "So many spices line the nose here including cinnamon, cardamom, aniseed and walnuts. But there’s no shortage of red plums and dried cherries either. Balanced and suave, this is a sophisticated Brunello with a sleek frame of tannins and subtle yet persistent acidity. Drink in 2021." (10/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Castello Banfi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is fragrant and bright. Aromas of wild cherry, blackberry and plum emerge from the glass with spice, tar and licorice following close in tow. The uni...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Von Strasser continues to produce stunning Cabernets that are not only delicious when released, but ageable. This estate bottling is superbly rich in cassis and cedar, and while the tannins are thick, they're sweet and intricate. Great now and should develop through 2012, at least." (12/2009) Connoisseurs Guide: "Sporting a nice bit of black cherry fruit tinged with notes of chocolate, creamy oak and blueberry tanginess, this full-bodied bottling is big and somewhat viscous on the palate with sturdy tannins that make it on t...

92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Not yet bottled, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape nevertheless is loaded with potential. Rocking notes of black raspberries, new saddle leather, spring flowers, and ground pepper all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, deep, layered 2017 that has ripe tannins and a great finish. It's going to hit the ground running and drink spectacularly well for 10-15 years. The blend is 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and the balance Cinsault, brought up in foudre and demi-muids." (08/2019) 91-92 points Vinous: "Deep crimson. A com...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Woodland berry, iris, menthol and star anise aromas slowly take shape on this elegantly structured, savory red. Enveloping and delicious, the focused palate delivers raspberry compote, dried black cherry, licorice and cinnamon alongside polished, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity lends tension and keeps it balanced. (KO)" (10/2019) 96 points Vinous: "Sandrone's 2015 Barolo Aleste is a total stunner. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, lavender and spice are all beautifully framed by ripe, silky tannins. Creamy, resonant an...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1946 Don PX Convento Seleccion produced with Pedro Ximenez grapes dehydrated under the sun at the time of the Second World War, was only bottled in September 2011. This is an extreme wine, my first descriptor was ultra-mega-super concentrated. It is unbelievably powerful, both in the nose and the palate, full of umami, with sweet cinnamon, Christmas cake, camphor, petrol, lemongrass, Belgian chocolate and butter. Incredibly complex and rich, sweet, balanced and smooth in the palate, it is both very sweet and...

Heaven Hill has opened up some of the choicest barrels in their Elijah Craig single barrel program for us. While we typically gravitate toward the older barrels available, every once in a while the 9-years blow us away. This 9-year-old was harvested from Warehouse T, Floor 6, up in the topmost part of the warehouse, giving it extra intense KY summers. It was 133.9 proof when pulled, before being proofed down to ECSB's standard 47% ABV.

94 points Decanter: "This small cooperative goes from strength to strength under the dynamic management of Aldo Vacca. Montestefano is one of the top sites in the commune of Barbaresco. The nose is still reserved, but there are rich red fruits lurking. Very concentrated on the palate, this is lush and approachable, although one senses there is much in reserve, with excellent ageing potential. It's taut and imposing, with a finish that's tangy and persistent. (SB)" (01/2020) 94 points Vinous: "The 2015 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano rounds out this ser...

96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Deep aromas of red and black fruits, violet, gunflint, licorice and bitter chocolate, complemented by a sexy oak-derived note of hickory smoke. Large-scaled and sweet, but with terrific precision and refinement to the flavors of dark berries, chocolate, licorice and minerals. Finishes polished and long. Not as opulent or exotic as the 2009, but offers exceptional sweetness and size while managing to maintain impressive verve and thrust. A great 2010. (ST) 96+" (07/2013)

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "There are three monumental wines in the lineup and the 2016 Pinot Noir Alpine Hillside is one of them. Slightly deeper colored, it tastes like the straight Alpine release, but with the intensity turned all the way up. Thrilling notes of white flowers, forest floor, crushed rocks, and both red and black fruits give way to a medium to full-bodied Pinot Noir that has perfect balance and a layered, powerful, yet incredibly elegant style on the palate. It’s one of the finest Pinot Noir to come from these magical terroirs just south of ...

2015 Castello di Banfi "Poggio alle Mura" Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "This is a pure and beautiful Brunello with super fine and abundant tannins that are comprehensive and expansive. Builds on the palate. Full body. Round and firm with beautiful fruit and length. Lively and vivid. From organically grown grapes. Needs a year or two to soften, but already gorgeous." (10/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Castello Banfi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura offers a distinct identity that is recognized by the natural thickness and density of the wine. Warm vintage condition...

91 points Vinous: "The 2010 Pinot Noir Kiser En Haut is more compact and dense than the Kiser En Bas that follows in this tasting. Here the tannins are firm and a bit imposing. The 2010 will require a few years for the fruit to really open up. Today, the wine is compact, tight and closed in on itself. It will be interesting to see how the wine develops in the coming year and years. (AG)" (07/2013) Wine Spectator: "Aromas of sour cherry, black licorice, kirsch and fresh-turned earth lend this the texture and flavor of crushed rock. Ends with delicacy. (...

96-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A prodigious effort, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hautes Brusquieres Cuvee Speciale was yet to be bottled during my June visit. It offers up sweet floral aromas, hints of thyme and rosemary and bold cherry fruit. Full-bodied and creamy-velvety in texture, it's a hugely seductive mouthful of wine that I found difficult to spit. If it emerges from the bottling process looking like this, buyers will have huge smiles on their faces. (JC)" (08/2018) 95-97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Blackberries, crushed rocks, pepp...

94 points Vinous: "The 2013 Syrah Brousseau is deep, dense and powerful, with a real sense of weight and gravitas. Inky blue and purplish fruit, smoke, graphite, licorice, cured meats and earthy notes give the Brosseau its distinctly baritone-inflected personality. This is a virile and masculine Syrah and is also one of the finest wines in this range. (AG)" (03/2017)

96-97 points James Suckling: "Wow. This is so perfumed and mesmerizing with currant, floral and blackberry character. It’s full-bodied, yet so refined and polished with wonderfully fine-grained and crafted tannins. The finish goes on and on." (06/2020) 95-97 points Vinous: "The 2019 Malescot St. Exupéry is richer and more flamboyant on the nose compared to its Margaux peers with ravishing red berry fruit, vanilla, iodine and touches of cassis, becoming increasingly floral with aeration. The palate has a cashmere texture on the entry matched by well jud...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chardonnay Eastside is from a vineyard owned by Ulises Valdez, and planted with the Montrachet clone on the very low-yielding rootstock called riparia gloire. This wine displays terrific intensity, plenty of stony minerality, and great precision in its notes of subtle white peach, pineapple, almond paste, brioche and crème brûlée. This is a killer wine and a perfect example of 2013 Chardonnay at its best. I never thought this wine could hit this peak, but the proof is in the tasting, and the wine, which...

95-97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc representing just 41% of the total production, the 2018 Château Laroque is still resting in barrels and oak tanks. Its deep purple color is followed by a classy bouquet of ripe black cherries, cassis, graphite, licorice, and crushed rocks. Deep, medium to full-bodied, with beautiful mid-palate and ripe, silky tannins, it's a beautiful success for the estate, which appears to be firing on all cylinders today thanks to the talented team of David Suire and Nicolas Thienpont!" (04/2019) ...

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fragrant and loaded with finesse, this perfumed red features enticing scents of woodland berry, pine forest, violet, underbrush and a whiff of sandalwood. Elegantly structured, it’s tantalizingly ethereal, delivering juicy red cherry, strawberry, black tea, licorice and a pronounced mineral note evoking rusty iron alongside tightly knit, refined tannins. It’s surprisingly vibrant for the hot vintage and still youthfully austere, but that’s a good thing as it shows great aging potential. *Cellar Selection* (KO)" (05/2020) 96 ...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The greatest young wine I’ve ever tasted, the 2010 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Sanctus Sanctorum is a blend of 100% Grenache, from a single plot in La Crau, that is aged all in demi-muids and bottled only in magnum. It offers an unbelievable drinking experience, with insanely good aromas of kirsch liqueur, spice-box, garrigue, licorice, and subtle floral qualities all soaring from the glass. This is followed by a massive, yet elegant and ethereal wine that has a seamless, pure texture, perfect balance, and thrilling amoun...

2016 Figeac, St-Emilion (1.5L)
Top Pick!
100 points Vinous: "The 2016 Figeac was bottled at the end of July 2018, since Frédéric Faye wanted to give the wine more time in barrel to develop more harmony. The stunning 24-carat bouquet rivets you to the spot with brilliant delineation and mineral-rich red fruit that articulates its terroir as well as any Right Bank you will find. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin, perfect acidity, wonderfully integrated new oak and enormous depth toward the fresh, pencil-box- and cedar-infused finish. This is a classic Figeac, up there with the 1947 a...

100 points James Suckling: "An incredible nose, so subtle with red fruits, mint, minerals, and all sorts of flowers give way to Cohiba cigar tobacco. The palate has such freshness and density, with perfectly polished tannins. Slightly leathery, like a wonderful Hermes bag. What a wine, please leave this for another ten years. " (02/2011) 99 points Wine Enthusiast: "Initially dense, almost black enough to be attacked with a knife. But then it becomes apparent that this is a beautifully integrated, balanced wine, bringing together power, with the hallmar...

2005 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (1.5L) Ex-Chateau Release
Top Pick!
99 points Decanter: "Deep bright ruby, superconcentrated and extremely vertical, this Mouton is only starting to open up after which it will plateau for another fifty years or so of outstanding drinking. Cassis, cedar, graphite aromas and flavours of noteworthy complexity are lifted by harmonious acidity. An extremely refined and less exotic Mouton Rothschild. (ID)" (11/2015) 98 points James Suckling: "This accelerates on the palate with incredibly ripe tannins and finesse. Full body, roasted fruit, leather and grilled meat. Dried flowers, too. It show...
