2015 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "Lovely black-cherry, lavender and rose-petal character on the nose. Full body and firm, tight tannins that add structure and depth. Extremely long and intense. Excellent." (09/2019)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed, this red features ripe black cherry, blackberry, black currant, violet, iron, loamy earth and sanguine aromas and flavors. More approachable than its peers at this stage, with fine structure, if a little less density. Long finish. Drink now through 2032. (BS)" (07/2019)

2014 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wild herb, perfumed berry and pressed rose aromas lift out of the glass along with a whiff of eucalyptus. Smooth, delicious and balanced, the lithe palate has great tension, doling out juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and baking spice backed up by vibrant acidity. Silky tannins give it extraordinary elegance and linear structure. It won't take years to come around but it also boasts good midterm aging potential. *Editors' Choice* (KO)" (02/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like most producers in ...

2016 La Massa "La Massa" Toscana
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "This shows some really impressive, herbal complexity, spanning a whole spectrum of rosemary and pine needles, before tile, crushed stones, blackcurrants and bay leaves enter the picture. The polish to the firm yet generous tannins captivates, as does the precision to the acidity and long finish. " (07/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 La Massa is a terrific blend of 65% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon available at an accessible price. Alicante Bouschet was used in the blend until last ...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Tenuta di Sesta 2014 Brunello di Montalcino opens to an evolved appearance that showcases dark garnet saturation. However, this expression is also thicker and slightly more concentrated compared to many of its peers in this vintage. In 2014, the wines are lighter, generally speaking. You get a bright bouquet with crisp aromas of wild berry, blue flower and spice. The thinness of the vintage is apparent to the palate. This is a compact and streamlined Brunello with medium length. Some 30,000 bottles were made....

91 points James Suckling: "Bright and fruity with bilberries, citrus and earl grey tea. Citrusy and fine on the light-to medium-bodied palate. Firm but generous tannins. Drink now." (11/2019) K&L Notes: From the producer: "The Ricci family was born in 1150; Palazzo Ricci, one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces of Montepulciano, was commissioned by Cardinal Giovanni Ricci in 1534 by the best architect of the moment, the Sienese Baldassarre Peruzzi and finished being constructed in 1562. The Cantina De’Ricci was part of the project for the Palace...

This has been the #1 selling Italian wine for more than two decades at K&L! You can't get that kind of continued success without a supremely fantastic quality-to-price ratio. The southern Tuscan coast is a wonderful location for winemaking, with stable temperatures and a solid history of quality, yet no fame and fortune. Incredibly priced bargains come out of the region, and the proof is in the bottle. This wine is wonderful, soft, forward and easy-to-drink Sangiovese with an enticing mixture of cherry, plum and earth. Eminently drinkable.
Price: $9.99

Ettore Spina and his wife, Enrica Bandirola, owners of Sesta di Sopra, planted a new vineyard to Sangiovese in 2005. It has the same Galestro soils as the others, perfect for taming Sangiovese's natural vigor. Unfortunately, in Montalcino all of the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards are all registered and controlled, and they aren't allowing any more to be added right now, so the wine that comes from this new vineyard has to be designated an IGT (Indicates Geographic Tipicity). (Greg St. Clair, K&L Italian Wine Buyer)
Price: $16.99

96 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruit, mushrooms, violets and roses. Full body, very fine tannins and a wonderful finish. Shows so much intensity and clarity. Gorgeous red. Drink or hold. " (12/2018) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Thanks to that dark garnet hue, you recognize this as Brunello just as soon as this beautiful wine pours from the bottle. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Duelecci Est showcases that sultry and sophisticated appearance that you get with Sangiovese that has been expertly aged for six long years. The ...

2015 Castello di Banfi "Poggio alle Mura" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
97 points James Suckling: "This is a pure and beautiful Brunello with super fine and abundant tannins that are comprehensive and expansive. Builds on the palate. Full body. Round and firm with beautiful fruit and length. Lively and vivid. From organically grown grapes. Needs a year or two to soften, but already gorgeous." (10/2019)

Tenuta La Fortuna's Fortunello bottling is 100% Sangiovese grown in Tuscany. Vintages are aged for four months in French oak barrels and typically show aromas of raspberries and cherries, with deep chocolaty tones lingering on the finish. This tastes significantly more expensive than it is!
Price: $14.99

92 points Decanter: "Luca Brunelli runs this 15ha family estate on the outskirts of Montalcino, producing a Brunello and this lovely Rosso. It's an excellent price for the quality, showing firm tannins and exotic spice from the nine months in Slavonian barrels and French barriques. This is fleshed out by ripe black cherry fruit and lifted by brisk acidity. Tina Gellie" (09/2018)

90 points Wine Spectator: "A broad, supple version, displaying ripe plum, cherry, licorice and stony flavors. Grainy tannins shore up the finish, with an overall impression of balance and brightness. (BS)" (10/2019) Decanter: "Pleasant and complex floral aromatics. Ripe cherry fruits with an almost jammy character on the palate. (panel tasting) " (06/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This has aromas of underbrush, charred earth, leather and a whiff of cured meat. On the linear, no-frills palate, dusty tannins accompany licorice, espresso and sour cherry. (KO)"...

91 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dried red fruit, cedar and tobacco on the nose. Quite resolved on the palate now with drying tannins, but enough fruit to carry the finish. Drink now." (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Wild-berry, tobacco, clove and truffle aromas mingle with a whiff of oak. Lean and linear, the palate offers dried cherry, orange zest, toast, oak-driven spice and roasted coffee bean alongside close-grained tannins. (KO)" (03/2019)

2015 San Polino "Helichrysum" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
97 points James Suckling: "Ripe boysenberries, tar, chestnuts, orange peel, dried cherries and tobacco. There’s a beautiful interplay between the more subtle, citrus notes and darker red fruit, and nothing’s out of kilt to the ripeness. Lots of powerful tannins take the full-bodied palate by storm, coating the mouth in layers of intense but fragrant red fruit and steamrolling this Brunello to a long, chewy conclusion. This is a contrastive wine, built on the foundation of an intricate, wild tannin backbone, but framed in a vibrant and transparent package...

A blend of 40% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot from a 200-hectare estate with 30 hectares under vine. The property has been owned and managed by Giovanni Ciacci and his family since 1996. The first bottles of Brunello from the Tenuta di Sesta Estate were produced in 1966 by Giuseppe Ciacci, father of current owner. According to the winery, there were only twelve other such producers at the time and, for this reason, the Tenuta di Sesta Estate is recognized as one of the historical estates in the territory of Montalcino.

2016 Sesta di Sopra Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The folks at Sesta di Sopra are releasing this wine later than usual. The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino (with 8,400 bottles made) is a terrific expression that acts and tastes like a full-fledged Brunello. The wine opens slowly in the glass, revealing budding complexity as it does. It shows bright berry intensity with grilled herb, pressed violet and potting soil. The mid-weight finish is elegant and tight. (ML) 90+" (02/2019)

2015 De' Ricci "SorAldo" Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "A pretty, refined red with floral, citrus and plum aromas and flavors. Medium body, fine tannins and a crisp finish. Drink now and enjoy." (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Plum-cake, French oak, rose and leather aromas lift out of the glass. The oak aroma carries over to the palate, along with dried cherry, licorice and espresso. It's rather austere, with tight close-grained tannins that grip the finish. (KO)" (03/2019)

2015 Castello di Banfi "Poggio alle Mura" Brunello di Montalcino 1.5L (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

2007 Podere La Vigna Brunello di Montalcino

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A dark, garnet-colored appearance with brooding, masculine tones of spice, ripe fruit and dark cherry. Beautiful balsam notes of cola, dried mint and ginger. Balanced and not overdone. Let the tannins soften with age." (01/2012) 90 points James Suckling: "Slightly earthy and funky on the nose, with ripe fruit. Full body, with chewy tannins and a fruity finish. A little austere textured, but excellent. Enticing finish. Drink now or hold." 2016 Carus Baldéro Chianti Classico
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: "A juicy, very ripe red with plum and currant character. Full body, round, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish that verges on jammy, but is still attractive. Drink now." (07/2019)

90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino From the winery: "Young and fresh wine a strong character linked to the Montalcino territory: it originates from the union of two local varieties, Sangiovese (90%) and Colorino (10%), which blend together giving at first the structure and then the intense color. After ageing in stainless steel vats, it shows a ruby red color, hints of red fruit on the nose and fresh and balanced flavor. A pleasant wine to drink every day because of its freshness and aroma. Even though it is so drinkable and very approachable on the palate...

2015 Carus Gaudio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered red with lots of chocolate, berry and wood character. Full and chewy. Yet, the tannins are not harsh or overdone. Give it a year or two to soften. Try in 2020." (09/2018)

2015 Castello di Banfi Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

Balanced and suave, this is a sophisticated Brunello with a sleek frame of tannins and subtle yet persistent acidity." (10/2019)

2016 Casino di Sala Rosso dei Tatanni Rosso Toscano
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "A beautiful sangiovese that shows fresh blueberries, intense violets, dried herbs and iodine. Juicy and very inviting with round, succulent tannins and a tangy finish. Drink now." (04/2019)

2015 La Fiorita Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
Monica Larner writes in the Wine Advocate: "Currently, the estate consists of four parcels, each with different compositions of limestone clay. The four parcels are La Fiorita, Pian Bossolino, Poggio al Sole and Giardinello, and fruit from each is fermented separately in order to decide which grapes go to the Rosso and which go to the Brunello. In truth, the whole property is registered for the production of Brunello, so the Rosso di Montalcino is in effect a declassified Brunello. The vines average out to be about 20 years old." (01/2019)
Price: $29.99

2015 Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: " Boysenberry crumble, black raspberries, licorice, treacle tart, forest floor and iron shavings are out in style. There’s pretty crunchiness to the acidity and the tannins have a chalky, spicy feel. Medium-to full-bodied and refined. Drink from 2021." (09/2019)

2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Quite understated for a 2015 Brunello, this shows heather, rose petals and tulips. Hints of bark, red licorice and cedar. Medium-to full-bodied with silky, sleek tannins and lots of mouthwatering acidity drive. Refined and elegant. Drink in 2021." (10/2019)

Poggiarellino is a small property in the north of Montalcino and is not far from Altesino, they started making wine with the 1996 vintage and slowly grew their production, K&L started importing their wine with the 2000 vintage. Their Brunello di Montalcino production is usually about 450 cases to 500 cases and about half of that number for the Rosso di Montalcino. The Brunello is aged in 25hl Slavonian oak barrels and the Rosso di Montalcino is aged in stainless steel tanks.
Price: $29.99

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delicate aromas of truffle, wild berry, violet and espresso lead the nose. The elegant palate delivers ripe morello cherry, raspberry compote and star anise framed in lithe tannins. (KO)" (03/2019)

2015 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dust and ripe fruit such as dried redcurrants, strawberry jam and raspberry fool. Lots of mahogany and old piano too. Decadent with dark-chocolate flavors and rustic tannnins, but there’s a fine line of acidity to drive this to a tidy if silty finish. Drink in 2025." (10/2019)

2015 La Massa "Carla 6" Toscana Rosso
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "Complex aromas of plums, fruit tea, cherries and hints of flowers. Medium- to full-bodied yet dense on the center palate with gorgeous tannins and great length. This is so long and energetic on the finish. Just a baby but already so impressive. Drink in 2021. " (09/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The gorgeous 2015 Carla 6 is a supercharged expression of Sangiovese from a place that I can only describe as Sangiovese heaven: Panzano in Chianti. I'm told that berry size was smaller in this vintage, thus resulting...

96 points James Suckling: "Very intense aromas of ripe dark fruit with plums and cherries, intermingled with aged meat, warm stones and sweet, dried-wood nuances. The concentrated palate has a suave and plush core with tannins building in impressive layers to hold a long, flavorful finish. 92 points Vinous: "Le Ragnaie's 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is striking. Deep and yet wonderfully translucent, the 2016 captures the purest essence of Sangiovese. Sweet red cherry, mint, rose petal and sweet spice give the 2016 a striking upper register of aromatic brilliance to play off its mid-weight personality. This is such a pretty and expressive wine. It's all class here. (AG)" (10/2019) Wine Spectator: "Textbook aromas and flavors of cherry, almond, iron, sanguine and leather mark this balanced, expressive red. Fresh and moderately long. Drink now ...

2013 Albatreti Brunello di Montalcino (Elsewhere $56) (Elsewhere $56)
Top Pick!
90 points Vinous: "Medium red. Reticent but ultimately perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry, iris and herbs on the nose. Then juicy and broad in the mouth, showing a savory saline touch to the red currant and raspberry fruit flavors. Energetic and long on the fresh finish. (ID)" (04/2018)

90 points Decanter: "Despite overall high altitudes at Volpaia, some of the lower lying vineyards were damaged by the late April frost. Along with the drought conditions, this resulted in a reduction of 30-35% of the estate's average production. Up front raspberry notes are joined by a touch of mint which adds intrigue. This gains some definition as it sits in the glass and palate is juicy with a supple texture and balanced ripeness. (MM)" (02/2019) Jancis Robinson: "Mid ruby. Concentrated marasca cherry nose with minerally hints. Plenty of concentrate...

2015 San Polino Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
95 points James Suckling: "A wonderfully fresh expression of Brunello with orange rind, citrus and red cherries; but there’s also an overlay of riper, roasted herbs and incense. Medium to full body, ripe but very structured tannins and a very flavorful palate with lots of dried nutmeg and spice undertones. Everything is where it should be, in balance." (10/2019)

96 points Vinous: "At nearly thirty years of age, the 1988 Brunello di Montalcino remains bright, vibrant and full of life. Sweet red cherry and plum flavors are pushed forward, with deeper earthy, floral and spice notes that develop in the glass. An intriguing interplay of nuance and energy separates the 1988 from most wines in this range. It remains one of my favorite Soldera wines from the 1980s. This bottle is a bit softer than others have been, but the wine is still complete, super-expressive and inviting. (AG)" (10/2016)

2015 Poggio Antico "Altero" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

97 points James Suckling: "A beautiful cascade of blue and darker fruit precedes generous, enticing notes of saffron, dried orange rind, cumin, roasted thyme and nutmeg. Very long and velvety on the finish. Everything is where it should be. " (09/2019)
