2003 d'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of this estate’s flagship wines, the 2003 The Dead Arm Shiraz appears to be better than the 2002. A deeper, richer, fuller-bodied offering that spent time in equal parts French and American oak, it possesses an opaque purple color, great intensity, and a fabulously sweet nose of blackberries, cassis, asphalt, earth, and oak. Powerful, super-concentrated, and obviously fashioned from low yields and old vines, this is a classic McLaren Vale old vine Shiraz that should age nicely for 15+ years. (RP)" (10/2005) ...

2003 D.R. Stephens "Premiere Napa Valley" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: “Every year winemaker Celia Masyczek tastes and sniffs her way through the cellar seeking those lots of D.R. Stephens Cabernet Sauvignon that represent the best of the vintage. She sets one such barrel aside for Premiere Napa Valley. This year's selection promises to be special indeed with its dark red color and rich full flavors. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and has not been fin ...

2003 Quilceda Creek Washington Cabernet Sauvignon

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another wine I’ve had multiple times recently, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot) is pure perfection in a glass and yields off-the-hook aromatics of cassis, black raspberries, tobacco leaf, pepper and licorice. Deep, layered and even elegant, with a seamless texture that conceals the sheer wealth of material present, it builds through the mid-palate, possesses huge amounts of extract and masses of polished tannin on the finish. Despite the overall size, it never loses its Cabernet ...

2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

Aromas of mountain strawberries and cherry are present, but this wine is far more complex than primary fruit. Over days, an opened bottle reveals intriguing layers. There is the venerable smell of the interior of an antique armoire, perhaps leather and tobacco too. At a certain point the wine shows an iron and mineral coldness that then passes to saffron and earthy depth. The fruit is persistent, but not dominant, as it changes from fresh ripe red fruits to hibiscus flower and tea flavors. The texture, although more supple than the previous vintage, is f ...

2003 Pavie, St-Emilion

97 points Wine Spectator: "This is a stunner, with the warmth of the vintage marrying ideally with the relative coolness of the terroir to deliver a wide range of vivid plum, boysenberry, raspberry and cherry paste flavors that have energy and drive, carried by a long graphite note and backed by a roasted apple wood accent that has been fully absorbed. Powerfully ripe, but not heady, with a sense of poise through the finish. A jaw-dropper. Best from 2020 through 2040. (JM, Web Only-2017)" 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has calmed do ...

2003 Sullivan Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Enthusiast: "Seems like it was picked earlier than most ’03s, given the dry tannins and peppery, minty flavors. Still, it has a beautiful structure, classic and refined, with cherry and cocoa flavors and upscale oak. " (12/2006) K&L Notes: Founded by Jim and Joanna Sullivan in 1978, the Sullivan estate is in the heart of Rutherford. Sullivan favors elegance and balance over maximum ripeness, and this 2003 Cabernet, coming in at just 13.5% ABV, is an excellent example of their approach.

2003 Neal Family "Howell Mountain Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "November 8, 2006 - Located 1,800 feet above sea level, this mountain property is the home for our family and the winery. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 1998, is certified by CCOF, and is currently enrolled in the Fish Friendly Farming environmental certification program. The wine's fragrance expresses cherry fruit, dark chocolate, sandalwood spice and creamy oak. In the mouth there are multiple layers of black fruit, raspberries and spice. 2003 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has filled out very nicely. Nearly 3,000 cases were produced of this flowery, tar, camphor, incense, blackberry, black currant, espresso and chocolate-scented beauty. A blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, a whopping 22% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, this full-bodied, opulent 2003 is just entering its plateau of full maturity. It is better at age ten than it was early in life from cask and post-bottling. (RP)" (06/2013) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full med ...

Broad, intense, and concentrated, this medium to full-bodied wine is layered with luxurious waves of black cherries. Pure, well-balanced, and long, it is the finest American Sangiovese I have tasted to date. (PR)" (04/2006) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: ...

2003 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin was smoking good, with awesome herbes de Provence, pepper, garrigue and sweet Grenache-driven fruit. Full-bodied and rich, with sweet tannin, I loved it, and would plan on drinking bottles over the coming couple of years as well. 2003 Kenwood "Artist Series" Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon

Connoisseurs Guide: "Even accepting that Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape that delivers its fair share of tannin, this wine goes a little bit overboard in its late parts, and the ripe, rich aromas and reasonably fruity flavors that come before are more than a little bit occluded at the back. Still, there is fruit at its heart, and, for those willing to wait, the wine may well reward their patience." (12/2007) Wine Enthusiast: "The ’03 is elegant and sleek, with blackberry and cassis flavors that finish thoroughly dry. But even at 4-plus years, the tannins ...

2003 Turley "Moore Earthquake" Napa Valley Zinfandel

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Zinfandel Moore Earthquake Vineyard is a prodigious effort. The good news is that there are 500 cases of this offering, which tips the scales at 16.3% alcohol. A big, sweet bouquet of red and black currants, raspberries, licorice, and hints of cassis and pepper is followed by a full-bodied, rich, voluptuously-textured Zin with crisp, zesty acidity, huge body, and terrific definition as well as vibrancy. This large-scaled wine should drink well for up to a decade. (RP)" (02/2005)

Full-bodied, voluptuously textured and with lots of fruit, it has a slightly dry edge to the tannin so drink up. (JD)" (09/2015) Vinous: "Medium red. It will continue to evolve gracefully, but there’s no reason to delay gratification and I’d enjoy this fabulous Syrah over the coming couple of years. 2003 Dyer Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon

Winery notes: "At Dyer Straits Wine Co., we have a singular focus. We planted Dyer vineyard in 1993 on a site where volcanic gravel mingles with large volcanic boulders that slid from the ridge above thousands of years ago. The 2.3 acres of vines are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, 78% and two Bordeaux blending varieties; Cabernet Franc, 16% and Petit Verdot, 6% - a mix which we have refined over the years. Our farming methods are sustainable, we use only organic sprays to prevent mildew, and weed whackers instead of herbicide- we live here after all."

Its inky/purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of graphite interwoven with soil, black currant, and pepper scents. With full body, impressive delineation, and a long, concentrated, deep finish, this 2003 Cabernet will be at its finest between 2007-2020. Wine & Spirits: "Cool scents of raspberry begin to gain on the oak tones as this fills out with air. Past the smoky wood spice, a mineral aspect adds to the firmness of the wine." (08/2006) K&L Notes: Similar to the 2002, this wine is quite impressive, offering layers of interest. Ripe flavors of dark plum and wild berry are enhanced by underlying layers of herb, cedar and sweet oak. Aged in 30% new barrel and the balance in foudre, it certainly possesses a modern slant, yet easily holds on to its southern Rhone roots. 2003 Henri Bonneau "Cuvée Marie Beurrier" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

A gloriously old-school style. No Réserve des Célestins in 2003. Drink now through 2025. (JM)" (10/2010) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby. 2003 Château Musar Rouge Bekaa Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Chateau Musar seems very different than years such as 1981, but maybe that’s just because it is so young, or possibly because of the vintage or an increasing nod to modernity. Either way, this is a ripe, sexy Musar. It retains its elegant mid-palate as well as lovely fruit and fine balance. There is a slightly sweet tinge to the finish, perhaps a touch of a high-toned demeanor. The lush texture and surprising richness make this a rather luscious wine by Musar standards. 2003 Lagrange, St-Julien

92 points John Gilman: "I expected to be able to spot the 2003 vintage easily in the vertical blind tasting of the château that I attended back at the start of 2007, but it was not easy to identify. This is of course a pretty strong endorsement for the success Lagrange has realized in this difficult and very hot vintage. The 16% alcohol is beautifully concealed by its prodigious concentration. Readers who love the extroverted personalities of these wild and crazy Australian reds should drink it over the next 10-12 years."
