2015 Mastroberardino "Radici" Taurasi
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "I love the spicy and lifted notes here of caramelized orange peel, dried meat, blackcurrants, pomegranate, sea urchin and bark. A seamless and wonderfully elegant, medium-bodied palate follows with finely grained tannins and loads of floral undertones. This wine is all about transparency and subtlety. Best Radici in years." (04/2019) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "This wine’s initial volatile notes blow off to unveil concentrated plum and raspberry flavors infused with notes of black tea, smoke and rare steak. Its firm tannins an...

91 points Vinous: "Deep red-ruby. Aromas of dark plum, blackberry, soy sauce and sweet spices. Harmonious acidity provides noteworthy clarity and cut to flavors that are similar to the aromas. Boasts a mineral texture and a long finish. This is slightly denser than the Aglianico Bacioilcielo from the same vintage, though both are really good wines. (ID)" (11/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A pure expression of Aglianico from 15- to 20-year-old vines, the 2016 Paestum Aglianico Donnaluna is a layered and bold red wine. Some 10% of the wine is ferm...

Wine Spectator: "A bright and brambly, easy-drinking red, with light tannins and a fruit-forward mix of crushed raspberry and mulberry, wild herb, citrus and spice flavors. (AN, Web Only-2018)" K&L Notes: If you are not familiar with Aglianico, this would be a great place to start! Totally organic and made in the middle of Cilento National Park, this is a sensational red from southern Campania. The all-stainless steel fermentation and aging reveals the purity of the fruit and the site, and the wine is loaded with juicy black fruit. Layered with spicy no...

Importer's notes: "What a delicious red wine. '...soft tannins and berryish flavors are kicked up with a spicy note of cinnamon and dried cherry...distinctive savor and bright acidity' as David Lynch says of Piedirosso in his excellent Vino Italiano. This is a very versatile food wine: serve it with salmon, pork, substantial pasta dishes, and other great everyday dishes. Just north of Naples, right on the coast of Campania, there is a very small grape-growing area called the Campi Flegrei. The soil is so sandy here that the vines can be planted directly ...

Monica Larner writes: "Some of the best Aglianico in the appellation is made by Enza and Antonella Lonardo, owners of Contrade di Taurasi. The family farms five hectares of ancient vines planted across various limestone and volcanic soil types. Vincenzo Mercurio is the consulting enologist."

92 points James Suckling: "The sweet black-cherry and wild-herb aromas are married to some rather dry tannins, together making quite a bold statement. Then, there’s a slew of herbal notes at the finish. Not easy drinking, but full of character. Drink or hold." (10/2018) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an up-and-coming estate to keep your eye on. The 2015 Irpinia Campi Taurasini Ion delivers a beautifully dark and concentrated appearance with abundant aromas of black cherry, dried blackberry, light spice and campfire ash. Fermentation ...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Montevetrano is almost impossibly young at this stage. Loaded with the essence of black cherry liqueur, minerals and spices, the wine conquers the palate with layers of richly structured fruit. The 2008 is full of raw, vinous energy, yet it is possible to get a sense of the brilliant future that lies ahead from the way the wine continues to develop beautifully in the glass. In 2008 climactic conditions were much more normal than 2007, with a healthy alternation of temperatures that favored the developmen...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Montevetrano is the product of an unusual vintage characterized by hot temperatures that were virtually uninterrupted throughout the year. Bright red fruit, flowers and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from this silky, beautifully balanced Montevetrano. The combination of explosive ripe fruit, richness and finesse is utterly breathtaking. The warmth of the vintage comes through in the wine’s generosity, yet there are no suggestions whatsoever of over- ripeness. This is a magnificent Montevetran...

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Mastroberardino "Villa dei Misteri Pompeiano" Campania . Mastroberardino is arguably THE benchmark estate of southern Italy's Campania region. So, they were the natural choice for the Italian government to task with restoring the ancient viticultural sites within the excavated ruins of Pompeii. The team at Mastroberardino cultivated the sites based on archaeological evidence discovered in the ancient winemaking facilities and equipment found in the once-buried city. The Villa dei Misteri is an expression of those sites and traditions. A blend of Piedirosso and a small amount of Scianscinoso, this is terroir to the utmost with dense aromas and flavors of black kirsch, morello cherries, red and black licorice, volcanic ash, and cinnamon spices. Truly exceptional wine and produced in very limited quantities.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Mastroberardino "Radici" Taurasi (94JS, 94RP, 94WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Taurasi Radici boasts stunning richness, depth and power, yet remains relatively accessible and approachable for such a young Taurasi. Juicy dark cherries, cinnamon, plums, spices, incense, tobacco and a myriad of aromas and flavors saturate the palate as this big, textured wine opens up in the glass. Despite its considerable richness and plushness, the 2007 never loses its classical sense of structure. If that combination sounds appealing, believe me, it is. This is a flat-out stunner from Mastroberardino. Best of all, it will drink beautifully pretty much right out of the gate. I imagine the 2007 will be a total home run in restaurants or in other settings where young wines are opened as a matter of necessity. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032. (AG)" (02/2013)
