Founders Brewing Co. Porter, Michigan (12oz)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The bottle reads “dark, rich & sexy” and boy is it right. This is a fuller, weightier example of the style, with balanced but forward roasted coffee bean, bittersweet chocolate, licorice stick and smoky vanilla aromas and flavors. The mouthfeel is sheer decadence, smooth and creamy, with thick molasses and espresso grind accents on the close. (LB)" (02/2011) K&L Notes: From the brewery: "Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Found ...

Founders Brewing Co. "CBS" Breakfast Stout Aged in Maple Bourbon Barrels, Michigan (750ml)

Part of Founders' Barrel Aged Series and limited in release, CBS is an imperialized version of Founders' Breakfast Stout, brewed with chocolate and coffee, that's then aged in Bourbon barrels which recently held maple syrup. From the brewery: "Big Bad Baptista is inspired by traditional Mexican coffee, Café de Olla, which is served with cinnamon and piloncillo, an unrefined sugar. The Cinnamon adds another layer of complexity and accentuates the earthy character of Mexican Coffee, but more importantly, it captures the essence of a place and its culture. As beverage geeks we wanted to pay homage to that rich tradition and offer our unique take. Big Bad Baptista is a combination of Vanilla, Cinnamon, Mexican coffee roasted by Blue Copper, and Solstice Chocolate cacao nibs. It’ ...

Little Creatures "Original Pils" Pilsner, Australia (12oz cans)

Brewery Notes: "We love hops, so it seemed natural to move the Pilsner towards the North German (Friesland) Style - these are hoppier and more bitter then the Southern German Pilsners. It’s made with 100% Pilsner Malt and German Perle hops - the key to this Beer is to let the aroma and bitterness of the hops shine through. The Beer really delivers on flavour, which is a creeper - this is a warning - the beer has an uncompromising and earth shattering bitterness; hell yeah..."

Then we added cacao nibs, cinnamon sticks, and chili peppers to it, and just a pinch of lactose to try and recreate one of our favorite chocolaty confections. The results are simultaneously explosive and balanced!
