2010 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza - Selección Especial" Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "Dried cherries, cedar, sandalwood, tar, treacle tart, cinnamon and vanilla. Medium body, fine-grained and very silky tannins for a wine of almost 10 years of age, bright and transparent acidity and a long, very spicy finish. Like going back in time and touching an ornate tapestry. The texture is mesmerizing." (07/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2010 was a great vintage in Rioja in general and seems to be exceptional here, with a 2010 Viña Ardanza Selección Especial (what used to be Reserva Especial) that can c...

2010 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "Fresh blueberries and brambleberries take center stage, which is striking for a wine of this age. There are also lots of roasted herbs, such as sage, not to mention floral elements, including lavender and dried violets. Then come cedar, sandalwood and tar. The tannins are incredibly round and soft, without the slightest hint of anything dry. This is among the most elegant of Riojas, where the acidity is wonderfully pronounced and cuts right through any touch of dried fruit. Long and powerful, yet subtle on the finish. Drink now...

2010 Chastelet, Côtes du Bordeaux
Top Pick!
From proprietors Sylvère and Valérie Coquereau: "The history is that of our meeting, our love at first sight for a small property, leaned against its hillside of the “Première Côtes”, rich of its fifty years vines, proud of its varied and complex land, recognized in the past but then asleep … facing the sun! Everything is there and everything is said … But everything remains to be done … Every day we observe, discover, learn, try and start over again. Acting gradually with absolute respect for this fabulous nature, these steep slopes, these vines deep...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Now at its peak, this is a rich, full-bodied wine. It has a fine blend of dark tannins and dense plum and berry fruits. Maturing well, the wine is well balanced, with a smoky edge and still with a touch of acidity. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (09/2016) 90 points James Suckling: "Lovely aromas of flowers and berries follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a fresh finish." (03/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Fourcas-Hosten 2010 has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, warm gravel and cedar scents that ar...

2010 Sempre Vive Napa Valley Petit Verdot
Top Pick!
Petit Verdot is rarely bottled on its own, except as a whimsical project for winemakers. The variety is best known for its ability to add tannin, color, and density to a Bordeaux blend. It’s often used in minuscule quantities in these blends, and is almost considered a trick of the trade, used to tweak a final blend. It's rare to find a varietal Petit Verdot, and even then, it is typically too bold and harsh. This wine, however, completely blew us away with its refinement and poise. Age has beautifully polished out the tannin and mellowed the intensity o...

I’m excited to introduce to you our latest DI – Direct import from Bordeaux; Ch. L’Avocat from the small commune of Cerons which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier this year. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost eight weeks later and was shown the gravely, plateau vineyards by her husband Sean who ma...

90 points Wine Spectator: "Lively and expressive, this red delivers berry, dried cherry, orange peel and vanilla flavors. The supple texture is fueled by mouthwatering acidity and backed by well-integrated tannins. Traditional style. Garnacha, Tempranillo and Viura. Drink now through 2024. 7,500 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (TM)" (01/2020) K&L Notes: Cubillo is the youngest Lopez de Heredia wine in the stable, referring to the vineyard of the same name. Here, Tempranillo is grown alongside Garnacha, with a few hectares each of Mazuelo and Gracian...

2010 Caol Ila 8 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Hogshead Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Caol Ila is finally starting to get the credit it deserves in the wider whisky drinking world. Despite the extremely limited attention its owners give to the brand, we've seen a great number of casual drinkers begin to associate the name (however difficult it is to pronounce correctly), with excellent balanced peated malt. We're always on the hunt for Islay's other distillery both young and old, but we're often seeing the prices exceeding the market's threshold. While the quality is excellent nearly across the board, it remains true that Caol Ila doesn't...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Barolo Riva del Bric shows a high degree of floral intensity with pressed violets and rose followed by bright red fruit and distant spice. The maceration period is relatively brief (15 days) and this has helped to fix the wine’s intensity, both in terms of its appearance and its bouquet. Vinification includes three years in botte grande. Mineral nuances and fresh acidity characterize the finish. (ML)" (06/2014) 92 points Vinous: "Firm veins of tannin run through the 2010 Barolo Riva del Bric. Pine, min...

Winemaker's Notes: "Cabernet Sauvignon 76%, Merlot 10%, Petit Verdot 6%, Cabernet Franc 5%, Malbec 3%. A structured entry delivers a complex array of aromas including black cherry and cranberry fruit, baking spices, roasted meat, tobacco leaf, cola and floral notes. The palate is textured, serving up flavors of chocolate, cherries, mocha and spice. In its youth, decant 1-2 hours before service for full enjoyment. Drink 2013 - 2025. The cool and late 2010 growing season gave our red Bordeaux varieties bright and pure varietal character. If history...

2010 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I certainly underrated the 2010 Pape Clement from barrel, rating it only 93-95+. (Thank God I put a 'plus' there!) Having tasted it four times in Bordeaux, and rating it perfect three times and 99 the fourth time, this final blend of 51% Merlot, 47.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1.5% Petit Verdot is perfection in a bottle. Tipping the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol, there are 8,000 cases of it. Its sublime elegance, the power, the medium to full-bodied texture, the silky tannins, the subtle notes of smoke, lead pen...

Full body and incredibly integrated with blackberry, licorice, and minerals. There's a wonderful purity to this. It goes on for minutes. The quality of tannins is amazing. Seamless...Try after 2018." (02/2013) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely amazing wine, from grapes harvested between the end of September and October 17, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Underbrush, rose, violet, black cherry, balsamic notes, cinnamon, mint, leather and Mediterranean herbs are just some of the sensations that emerge. The juicy fruit is balanced with energy and velvety tannins. It's loaded with energy and finesse, and give it time to develop even more complexity. Drink 2020-2040. *Cellar Selection* (KO)" (10/2014) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is smoky, with tobacco- and mineral-tinged cherry and strawberry flavors. Quickly gives way to firm, mouthcoating tannins, yet finds equilibrium over...

James Suckling: "A ripe and dense red with dried berries and hints of raisins and smoke. Full body. Chewy tannins. A little disjointed. Drink now." 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fruity and juicy, this showcases the accessibility of this estate, while also highlighting some of the tannic structure of its big brother, Léoville-Barton. There is a classic black-currant note that's balanced by the firm tannins of the vintage. (RV)" (02/2013) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Tightly focused, with a beam of cassis and blackberry fruit framed by integrated espresso and charcoal notes. The ample structure drives the polished finish, allowing extra notes of plum sauce, pastis and blueberry coulis to stride through....

2010 Rafanelli Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel
Back In Stock!
The Rafanelli family is now in its fourth generation of growing grapes and making wine in the Dry Creek Valley. This winery is small and family operated, and the focus has always been on quality over quantity. The winery consistently produces Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon that are among the finest in Sonoma County!
Price: $54.99

Winemaker's Notes: "We believe we are the only winery in California to be making a "Port" that is made not only out of the true grape varieties used in Portugal, but also fortifying it with very complex alambic brandy made from the same grapes from the same vineyard. It is a single vineyard Port-style wine, all the way down to the brandy! If you tour the Port houses in Portugal you often see beautiful old copper alambic stills sitting in the tasting rooms. They used to produce their own brandy from their own vineyards to fortify the Port. But since the e...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet colored, the 2010 L'Eglise Clinet begins unassumingly with gentle notions of fragrant dried flowers and wild sage leading to savory nut and meat characters over an expanding core of preserved plums, blueberry compote and black cherry coulis plus a waft of menthol. Full-bodied, concentrated and wonderfully decadent, the palate is absolutely packed with rich, ripe black fruit preserves and loads of spicy sparks, framed by super ripe, super plush tannins, finishing very long and decadent. I love the int...

2010 Rafanelli Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
From the winery: "Alberto Rafanelli, an Italian immigrant, first founded A. Rafanelli Winery in the early 1900’s. He settled in the Healdsburg area with his family and started growing grapes and making wine. After prohibition, Alberto’s son Americo showed interest in the family business and was soon carrying on the tradition. He moved the winery to the Dry Creek Valley in the early 1950’s. It was here that he began to farm his Zinfandel and raise his family. Although it wasn’t until the early 70’s that he came out with the present day label and start...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine that could easily be mistaken for a First Growth, the 2010 Rauzan-Ségla is an incredibly powerful, full-bodied wine by this estate’s standards, yet it nevertheless holds onto a terrific sense of elegance as well as perfect balance. A huge nose of blackcurrants, smoked earth, tobacco, lead pencil, and spice give way to a concentrated, blockbuster styled Margaux that has thrilling depth of fruit, masses of ripe tannins, and great length and finesse on the finish. This brilliant wine is just now seemingly on the edge of its dr...

2010 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
100 points Decanter: "Silky, sweet black fruit, black olive and truffle notes from the start. This is majestically impressive - it sparks to life in your mouth and breaks out an involuntary smile. The texture is just liquid silk and it slowly but surely builds through the palate, gaining in confidence and totally delightful. Bright, vibrant tannins make the most of the high levels of acidity that were available in 2010, while matching them pace for pace with concentrated fruit. For me this is getting better as it ages, starting to rival the 1982 at Comte...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Borderline perfection in a bottle, the 2010 Pichon-Longueville Baron (79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot) boasts a saturated purple color as well as truly extraordinary aromatics of crème de cassis, licorice, crushed rock-like minerality, graphite, and spring flowers. Possessing full-bodied richness, a huge, unctuous mid-palate, and building tannin, it shows the purity, grandeur, and precision that makes this vintage so remarkable. Hide bottles for another 4-5 years, count yourself lucky, and enjoy bottles over the following 2-...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Disznóko vertical in London, the 2010 Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos is a blend of 65% Furmint, 20% Zéta and 15% Hárslevelu (incidentally there was no 6 Puttonyos released this year). Deeper in color, burnished gold. It has a complex and quite powerful bouquet with Manuka honey, candle wax and sesame oil. There is good depth on the palate, tangy marmalade and honey notes, crisp acidity with mandarin and dried quince, vibrant and captivating on the lively and vivacious finish. This is excellent and just bri...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Grand Veneur "Les Origines" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96JD, 95RP, 93VN, 92WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "With more of everything, the 2010 Les Origines is a serious effort that has thrilling richness and depth. A blend of 50% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre that’s aged for 18 months in new oak, it has a deep, rich bouquet of blackberry, crème de cassis, licorice, leather, graphite, and spice-box that gives way to a full-bodied, perfectly balanced Châteauneuf-du-Pape that builds on the palate, with fantastic richness, ripe tannin, and a finish that won’t quit. Despite its stint in oak, it barely shows and the overall impression here is one of deep, concentrated, and pure fruit. This should be give 5-6 years of bottle age, and then consumed over the following 15 years or longer." (09/2012)

2010 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien
Top Pick!
99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another massive, incredible release from this estate is the 2010 Léoville Poyferré. Based on 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and the balance Petit Verdot, its inky purple color is followed by a massive, full-bodied, incredibly concentrated 2010 that has awesome notes of pure crème de cassis, licorice, graphite, and spring flowers. As with the 2009, it has incredible depth of fruit, yet a slightly more focused, classic style, which is very much in the style of the 2010 vintage. With its new oak completely absorbed by its wealth ...

2010 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Top Pick!
100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is considered to be among the greatest vintages ever made in Montrose, right up with the 1929, 1945, 1947, 1959, 1961, 1989, 1990 and 2009. Harvest was October 15 to 17. The wine has really come on since I last tasted it, and it needs at least another 10 years of cellaring. The blend was 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine is opaque black/blue, with an incredible nose of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, with hints of incense, licorice, and acacia flowers. Tan...

2010 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Inky, bluish/black/purple, with notes of spring flowers, licorice, camphor, graphite, and a boatload of blueberry, black raspberry and blackberry fruit, this is a powerful, full-bodied Troplong Mondot. All the building components of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol are judiciously and impressively integrated. It is a blend of 90% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc made by Christine Valette and her husband Xavier Pariente with the consultancy help of Michel Rolland. I'm not sure...

97 points Decanter: "Deceptively soft on attack but punches its fruit firmly into play within seconds, and hangs on right through the mid palate. Bilberry, cassis, sweet concentrated cherry coulis. From a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, this is still a swaggeringly tannic wine, with a gorgeous display of liquorice spice. Barely opening up, one for the very long haul. Wonderful example of a Saint Julien wine that is increasingly making all the right moves. (JA)" (06/2016) 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2010 from Chateau Saint-Pierre is a st...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain covers every inch of the palate with layers of deep, rich, dark fruit. Blueberries, blackberries, violet and cloves seem to pop right out of the glass in this juicy, extroverted wine. Deceptively approachable, the 2010 has plenty of tannin lurking beneath its massive fruit. I would not be surprised if the 2010 shuts down in bottle. It is one of the deepest, inkiest 2010s I tasted from Howell Mountain. (AG) 96+" (12/2012) 93 points Vinous: "Bright, dense ruby-red. Spec...

2010 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "A perfect wine with perfect purity of fruit. It shows gorgeous aromas of blackberries, currants and cedar with hints of chocolate. Full body, with a lovely sweetness of fruit and ripe tannins. It goes to chocolate, hazelnut and spices. Nutmeg too. Sexy and incredible. It has so much depth of fruit and density." (02/2013) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Vieux Château Certan is deep garnet in color, and—POW—the nose opens as a complete spice-bomb, featuring notes of fenugreek, cumin seed and cinnamon stick ...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet with a touch of purple, the 2010 Shiraz The Armagh offers a beautiful black fruit core, yielding notes of crushed blackberries and blueberries, with an undercurrent of coffee and spice box, plus touches of earth and raw meat. Full-bodied and built like a brick house, it has concentrated, very youthful fruit that reveals many layers in the long, long finish. (LPB) 99+" (08/2016)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A very pretty nose of fresh and relatively high-toned red currant and pinot fruit displays undertones of soil and humus. The supple, round and admirably pure middle weight flavors possess good underlying tension and fine length if somewhat limited depth. That said, this is delicious and should drink well almost immediately. Drink: 2014+" (04/2012) Jancis Robinson: "Light raspberry red. Low-key but true nose. Very juicy with marked freshness. Quite light but lovely balance and impressive persistence. (JR)" (01/2012)
Price: $29.99

97 points Vinous: "The 2010 Opus One has become incredibly elegant and polished over the last year, while retaining its power, structure and intensity. Explosive throughout, the 2010 is every bit as compelling as it has always been. Hints of rose petal, violets, lavender and mint add nuance as the wine turns a bit brighter and more floral over time. Readers who can be patient will be rewarded with a fabulous wine, but the 2010 is pretty hard to resist, even today. This is yet another terrific showing from the 2010. (AG)" (12/2014) 96 points James Suckl...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Cherry, black raspberry, anise and cola on the fragrant nose. Plush and open-knit by the standards of the vintage, offering bitter cherry and blackberry flavors and a touch of bitter orange. Closes with excellent cling and energy, leaving spice and floral notes behind. This wine is already approachable, especially with some aeration." (07/2012) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and focused, dense with licorice-accented black cherry and dark plum flavors that play against firm tan...

Enrique Fonseca distilled this expression in early Spring 2010, with three-quarters of the bottling made in a double-copper column still with removed plates to achieve a lower distillation proof and the remaining quarter made in an alembic pot still. Half of the run was then stored in American white oak previously used to age California red wine, and the remaining half barreled in used dark French oak. The casks were then stored for seven years at 3,800 feet elevation in a cool-climate subterranean barrel room.

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another spectacular effort from L'Evangile, the 2010 is a close rival to the 2009 and should be fascinating to compare with that vintage over the next 30 or so years. Stunningly rich and black/purple in color, the 2010 L'Evangile offers up the tell-tale floral note as well as black raspberry jam intermixed with cassis and kirsch. There are also ethereal floral notes and a hint of background oak. (RP) 98+" (02/2013) 97 points Wine Spectator: "A Pomerol of a different color, relying heavily on dense muscle and da...

91-93 points Vinous: "The 2010 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos des Ormes is wonderfully perfumed and delicate. Floral notes meld into an expressive core of red fruit in this gracious, delicate Burgundy. This is an especially elegant style of Morey. There is more than enough freshness in the glass to make me think the 2010 will drink well for a number of years. 98 points Vinous: "David Abreu's 2010 Thorevilos stands apart from all of the other wines in this range for its massive, inky concentration. It is also the last of these wines to be released, which may explain its intense power. A host of graphite, smoke, incense, tobacco, spice and black fruit gradually open up, but the 2010 is a wine for the future. I won't touch another bottle until at least age ten, even though that is almost certainly not going to be enough time to find the wine at its peak of expression. 94 points Vinous: "Rose petals, tar, licorice and bright red stone fruits lift from the glass in the 2010 Barolo Prapò. This is an especially floral Prapò. Here, too, the structure is implied rather than overly stated. Hints of licorice, tobacco, orange peel, star anise and smoke add complexity on the mid-weight, super-classic finish. This is an utterly exquisite, polished, totally beguiling Barolo from Sergio Germano. The Prapò was aged in 20 and 25 hectoliter casks. (AG)" (09/2014)
