2004 l'Avocat "Cuvée Speciale", Graves

This was the 2nd vintage from Sean Allison-released to us again in 2019. I’m excited to introduce to you our latest DI – Direct import from Bordeaux; Ch. L’Avocat from the small commune of Cerons which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier this year. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost eight weeks lat ...

2004 Arietta Napa Valley Claret

From the winery: "The first Arietta Claret, the 2004 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 14% Petit Verdot from vineyards farmed by David Abreu at the top of Howell Mountain. The relatively high percentage of Petit Verdot gives the wine great depth and staying power. Best held until 2008 and beyond."

2004 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Beautiful wine, lush and soft in the style of this warm vintage. It’s immediately enjoyable for the wealth of cherries, blackberries and raspberries, with a decadent edge of melted milk chocolate. Oak adds extra dimensions of smoky vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and gingerbread. *Editors' Choice* " (08/2007) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even richer and fuller than the regular bottling, but at the same time hedonistically and voluptuously styled is the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection. Dense ruby/purple ...

2004 Jones Family "The Sisters" Napa Valley Red Blend

This wine, made by Napa powerhouse Heidi Peterson Barret, is sold out at the winery, but it is a must-have for fans of bold Napa reds. The "younger sister" to the Jones Family Cab, this is a blend of Cab and Cab Franc that practically bounces out of the glass with its exuberant blueberry and cassis aromas, but is kept grounded by sultry spice. There's a fine dusting of cocoa powder on the mid palate, and a firm structure and already-integrated tannins that show that while this may be the winery's second label, it's all about a first-rate experience.

2004 Catena Zapata "Nicolás Catena Zapata" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Catena Zapata’s flagship is the Nicolas Catena Zapata, a Cabernet Sauvignon-Malbec blend. The 2004 Nicolas Catena Zapata is composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Malbec. It spent 18 months in 100% new French oak. A saturated black purple in color, it has an aristocratic perfume of pain grille, mineral, espresso, saddle leather, cassis, black currant, and black raspberry. Opulently textured, complex, ripe, and sweet on the palate, it maintains a sense of elegance as well as power. It demands 10-15 years of fu ...

2004 Roy J. Maier "St. Helena Road Vineyard" Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

Bursting through a color that is deep velvety red, this 2004 contains aromas of cassis, chocolate, cinnamon and a hint of black pepper. As promised by the classic aromas, the mouthfeel is rich, yet elegant, and the intense flavors are supported by luscious oak spice which sends the wine into orbit on the long finish. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petite Verdot.

2004 Waterstone Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Aromas of cedary oak, currants, black cherries and ripe plums suggest the fruit flavors to come, as does the intense, deep red color of the wine. Dense, mouth-filling cherries, plums, chocolate and tobacco marry with the oak nuances. The firm tannins underlying the wine's core provide balance, leading to a long, lingering finish.

2004 Araujo "Altagracia" Napa Valley Red Blend

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Despite having over 40-plus acres of vineyards in the northeasterly sector of Napa just south of Calistoga, the production at Araujo remains relatively limited, with the flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, producing between 1,600 and 2,200 cases of wine, and the second wine, the Altagracia, between 800 and 1,200 cases. Add to that another 1,000 cases of Sauvignon Blanc and 300-400 cases of Syrah, and there is just not a lot to go around given the greatness that can be achieved from this vineyar ...

2004 Castello di Monsanto "Nemo Mulino" Toscana

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In 2004 the Nemo (Cabernet Sauvignon) shares a lot of stylistic qualities with Il Poggio. It is more varietally expressive than the 2003 Nemo tasted alongside it, with dark cherries, menthol, spices and sweet herbs that flow from its powerful, layered frame. It reveals considerable depth not to mention tons of potential although it comes across as somewhat reticent today. Though not inexpensive in absolute terms I would be hard pressed to name another Tuscan wine that delivers this level of quality and pure drink ...

A nicely juicy wine, the least dense of the 2004 trio but offering an enticing sugar/acid balance. Finishes with substantial tongue-dusting tannins and a lot of oaky torrefaction. " (05/2007)

2004 L'Aventure "Cuvée Coincidence" Paso Robles Red

The Templeton Gap area of Paso Robles, where the fruit for this wine was grown, ordinarily experiences a cooling, maritime trend in late-summer and early fall, creating huge diurnal temperature swings (100-degree days, cool, 55-degree nights). But in 2004, this trend did not kick in and the hot days gave way to simmering 80-degree nights. The results? All the grapes to ripened at the same time! Winemaker Stephan Asseo used this unique, coincidental opportunity to create this unique blend of co-fermented Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Only 10 ...

For Coup de Foudre, he has paired with Danielle Price, MS, and wine director at Wynn Las Vegas, to produce this stunning Cabernet, which contains 12% Syrah. 2004 Ramey "Pedregal" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another killer wine from David Ramey comes from the Pedregal Vineyard. This is one of my favorite sites for Cabernet Sauvignon in all of Napa, right on the Oakville crossroads on the western side of the valley, just adjacent to Rudd and slightly down the hill from Dalla Valle and the Phelps Backus vineyard. Rocky, iron-rich, red soils seem to produce terrific Cabernet Sauvignon, and certainly this is a knock-out. Sadly, there are only 325 cases of the 2004 Pedregal, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Petit ...

There are 500 cases of this wine, which is showing better than it did from barrel last year. 2004 Blankiet "Paradise Hills Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense ruby/purple-colored 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Estate reveals notes of cocoa, coffee, chocolate and creme de cassis. It cuts a bigger swath across the palate than the Merlot, but with no hard edges. Deeply textured and multidimensional with loads of fruit as well as a flawless integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin and wood, this medium to full-bodied, classic Blankiet should continue to drink well for another 15-20 years. 2004 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic, old style Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, Montelena’s 2004 reveals beautiful purity along with lots of creme de cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish. By Montelena standards, it is a bit more powerful than usual (14.1% alcohol). These wines have an uncanny ability to age for 2-3 decades, and while the 2004 is slightly more forward and evolved than other vintages have been (2001 and 2002), it should last for 20-25 years. Opaque purple-colored, it has a superb bouquet of pain grille, scorched earth, truffle, walnuts, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur which leaps from the glass. 2004 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like so many 2004s, the 2004 Dominus is a full-bodied wine showing brilliantly at age ten, with loads of complex cedar, kirsch, Christmas fruitcake, black currants and spice box. It has a creamy, opulent texture, but remains light on its feet. This sexy wine is showing exceptionally well and is best drunk over the next 10-15 years. 2004 Diamond Terrace Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Located on Diamond Mountain, near the town of Calistoga, Maureen and Hal Taylor carved Diamond Terrace's first five vineyard acres into the hillside back in 1984, adding a few more vines in 1992. They released their first bottle of wine in 1999. Keeping production unbelievably low allows the Taylors and their winemaker, Thomas Brown of Outpost Vineyards, complete attention to detail and it shows.
