2004 l'Avocat "Cuvée Speciale", Graves

This was the 2nd vintage from Sean Allison-released to us again in 2019. I’m excited to introduce to you our latest DI – Direct import from Bordeaux; Ch. L’Avocat from the small commune of Cerons which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier this year. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost eight weeks lat ...

2004 Kopke Colheita Port

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A great mouthful of sweet fruit, flavors of ripe figs and tannins are almost lost in this delicious wine. This is hardly a classic, long-term vintage, but it's almost ready to be a hugely enjoyable wine. For lovers of rich, almost sweet Zinfandel, go back to the original model with this wine. (RV)" (11/2007) Wine Spectator: "Offers loads of mineral, mint and crushed blackberry character. Full-bodied, with a medium sweetness and a long, caressing finish. A very balanced, pretty wine. Nicely done. Best after 2010. (JS)" (12/20 ...

2004 Joseph Perrier Vintage Brut Champagne

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a beautifully made wine from a great vintage. It is still young and very fresh, although its flavors are now deepening and filling out. Ripe apple, white fruits and a tangy edge of lime zest are balanced by a complex texture along with good acidity. Drink the wine now and until 2020. (RV)" (12/2015)

2004 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port

92 points Wine Spectator: "Showing the benefits of maturity, with a core of gently steeped plum, blackberry and black currant fruit that slowly morphs into warm ganache, singed cinnamon stick and mulled wine accents on the finish, all while keeping its energy up. Drink now through 2021. (JM)" (02/2019) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Straight up-and-down delicious, this is a Port that’s ready to drink, focused on flavor dimension rather than hyperconcentration. It’s gentle and refined, with a smoky edge to its bright plum and bitter almond flavors, chocolat ...

2004 David Bruce Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir

This wine combines Pinot Noir from David Bruce's Estate vineyard and that of several small family-owned vineyards. All of these quality oriented vineyard sites benefit from the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean extending our growing season, allowing Pinot Noir to achieve mature flavors without becoming overripe. The Estate vineyard adds a solid backbone structure to hold the dense black cherry fruit it contributes.

2004 Fettercairn 14 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $60)

The tumultuous ownership history of Fettercairn has been in part responsible for the lack of brand recognition. While it has long been bottled as a single malt, it has never gained much notoriarty that way and the bulk of its stocks end up in blends, most recently for Whyte and Mackay. An interesting production set up, particularly from 1995 to 2009 when they used stainless steel condensers, has lent itself to a nutty and heavy style to the malt. Fortunately for K&L drinkers, this 14 year old whisky has taken that natural style and matured into a oily, r ...

2004 Dominio de Atauta Ribera del Duero

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The entry level 2004 Atauta comes from 60- to 150-year-old, biodynamically farmed, mostly ungrafted Tempranillo bush vines. The wine is aged in 100% French oak of which 20% is new. Dark ruby/purple in color, it has an expressive nose of spice box, coffee, black cherry and blackberry. Made in a racy style, with good acidity, this wine admirably combines ripe, sweet fruit with elegance. Drink it over the next 6-8 years. Kudos to Dominio Atauta! (JM)" (02/2007) 90 points Vinous: "Saturated violet. Dense, smoky an ...

2004 Dyer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Jancis Robinson: "Fresh, fruity nose, with tart berry/cherry and cassis. Supple texture and brisk acidity are nice counterplays to the spicy oak, tobacco and black cherry notes. Focused and elegant. (LM) 17.5/20 points" (06/2008) Wine Spectator: "Tightly wound, firm and dense, with loamy, earthy currant, anise and sage flavors that end up with chewy, dry tannins. Decant. 2004 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Syrah

93 points Wine Spectator: "An amazing wine that keeps sprinkling out new flavors. Firm, dense and marked by grapey Syrah flavors built around wild berry, pepper, spice, anise, sage and espresso bean. Tannins tighten up on the finish, providing excellent structure. (JL)" (10/2006) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium ruby. Suave, sweet and fine-grained, with harmonious acidity framing the flavors of dark berries and smoke. Not especially complex but dense and firmly built. Finishes with building tannins and very good length, the light smoky, vegetal elements repeating on the back." 2004 Red Car "Red Wind" Syrah

The 2004 Red Wind is the next vintage in the Trolley Series. It is called Red Wind after the hot, dry off-shore winds that periodically blast Los Angeles. It is thick purple to the rim of the glass. The aromas are wild blueberries and violets. It literally explodes in the mouth the blue and black fruit flavors, giving one's palate the sense of a sweet, round center held together by a vibrant acidity.

2004 Corté Riva Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits abundant scents of espresso roast, black cherries, cassis, and chocolate. More structured and backward than the Merlot, with a more linear, masculine mouthfeel, it will benefit from 1-2 years of bottle age, and should keep for 10-15 years. (RP)" (12/2006) Wine Spectator: "Intense floral and dusty and cedary oak flavors lead to a dried berry and wood character on the palate. Drink now through 2011. 800 cases made. (JL, Web Only-2007)"

2004 Macphail Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

92 points Wine and Spirits magazine. Nary 600 cases were made of this lovely Pinot Noir sourced from Goodin and Pratt vineyards near the town of Sebastopol. Grapes were hand harvested and hand sorted, and the wine was made with native yeast fermentation and natural malo in barrel. The wine was aged for 10 months in 100% French oak (40% new). If you love elegant, balanced Pinot (not overblown fruit bombs), this is the style you want. Designed for food, too!

2004 Dehlinger "Estate" Russian River Valley Syrah

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Exceptionally high quality as well as remarkably fair prices are the signature characteristics of one of California’s longtime, highly respected wine mavens, Tom Dehlinger. His Chardonnays continue to improve with each vintage. In the challenging year of 2006, he has had no problems with either Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. Dehlinger’s Pinot Noirs are essentially made from the Pommard clone, Dijon Clone 777, and the California Heritage clone known as Martini. Tom Dehlinger turns out two wines from Bordeaux varietals. ...

2004 Dyer Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon

Vinous: "(14.6% alcohol): Bright red-ruby. Very ripe, slightly high-toned aromas of cassis, black raspberry, kirsch and dark chocolate, along with hints of tar and mint. 2004 Diamond Terrace Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Located on Diamond Mountain, near the town of Calistoga, Maureen and Hal Taylor carved Diamond Terrace's first five vineyard acres into the hillside back in 1984, adding a few more vines in 1992. They released their first bottle of wine in 1999. Keeping production unbelievably low allows the Taylors and their winemaker, Thomas Brown of Outpost Vineyards, complete attention to detail and it shows. The deeply concentrated mountain fruit is hard to contain in the glass. Aromas of violets, blackberries, smoke and anise burst like fireworks, while flavors of ...

Offers a creamy mouth feel but also excellent juiciness and grip, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the primary dark berry flavors. 2004 Ambullneo Vineyards "Big Paw" Santa Maria Chardonnay

A blend of two vineyards, Block W on Bien Nacido and Solomon Hills. For the 2004 yields were cut to 2 tons per-acre. This Chardonnay will be much like the 2002, very steely with a lot of minerality. 2004 Woodenhead Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Woodenhead is back! My favorite Pinot Noir producers in California have just released several new bottlings. Nikolai Stez and Zina Bower both have day jobs. Woodenhead is their passion, and you can taste it in every drop. These wines are very small production, and they will sell quickly. I thought the 2003 vintage was some of the best Pinot Noir I’ve ever had, but these three wines are out of this world. If you haven’t tried Woodenhead yet, you must.
