2003 Glentauchers 15 Year Old "Chieftain's" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Butt Speyside Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

After many years out of the California market, the Chieftain's brand is back. Don't get too excited because along with their re-introduction, they've recently announced their final run of single cask offerings. While we wait patiently for the demise of this famous brand, we found this gorgeous little butt of 'Tauchers sitting in a warehouse in New Jersey. Delicious sherried malt from one of Scotland's least known distillers for less than $100? Wait, less than $75? Yes please! Glentauchers Distillery was built in 1898, just a few years before the entire S ...

2003 d'Arenberg "The Dead Arm" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of this estate’s flagship wines, the 2003 The Dead Arm Shiraz appears to be better than the 2002. A deeper, richer, fuller-bodied offering that spent time in equal parts French and American oak, it possesses an opaque purple color, great intensity, and a fabulously sweet nose of blackberries, cassis, asphalt, earth, and oak. Powerful, super-concentrated, and obviously fashioned from low yields and old vines, this is a classic McLaren Vale old vine Shiraz that should age nicely for 15+ years. (RP)" (10/2005) ...

2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

Aromas of mountain strawberries and cherry are present, but this wine is far more complex than primary fruit. Over days, an opened bottle reveals intriguing layers. There is the venerable smell of the interior of an antique armoire, perhaps leather and tobacco too. At a certain point the wine shows an iron and mineral coldness that then passes to saffron and earthy depth. The fruit is persistent, but not dominant, as it changes from fresh ripe red fruits to hibiscus flower and tea flavors. The texture, although more supple than the previous vintage, is f ...

2003 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes

97 points Wine Spectator: " Dark gold in color already, with intense aromas of dried apricots, citrus, honey and maple syrup with lots of spice. Full-bodied, with lovely sweetness and a long, creamy peach tart, tobacco, honey aftertaste. This is pure botrytis. Best ever from here. Has an incredible finish. *Highly Recommended* (JS)" (03/2006) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Enticing bright yellow-gold color. Subdued but very pure aromas of orange peel, apricot, honey and spices. Supersweet, fat and spicy; wonderfully round, chewy ...

2003 Neal Family "Howell Mountain Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "November 8, 2006 - Located 1,800 feet above sea level, this mountain property is the home for our family and the winery. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 1998, is certified by CCOF, and is currently enrolled in the Fish Friendly Farming environmental certification program. The wine's fragrance expresses cherry fruit, dark chocolate, sandalwood spice and creamy oak. In the mouth there are multiple layers of black fruit, raspberries and spice. 2003 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin was smoking good, with awesome herbes de Provence, pepper, garrigue and sweet Grenache-driven fruit. Full-bodied and rich, with sweet tannin, I loved it, and would plan on drinking bottles over the coming couple of years as well. (JD)" (08/2014) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Lilting, perfumy style, with alluring violet, raspberry, black cherry and plum notes that glide across the palate. This gains intensity through the finish, picking up the vintage's tarry ...

2003 Turley "Moore Earthquake" Napa Valley Zinfandel

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Zinfandel Moore Earthquake Vineyard is a prodigious effort. The good news is that there are 500 cases of this offering, which tips the scales at 16.3% alcohol. A big, sweet bouquet of red and black currants, raspberries, licorice, and hints of cassis and pepper is followed by a full-bodied, rich, voluptuously-textured Zin with crisp, zesty acidity, huge body, and terrific definition as well as vibrancy. This large-scaled wine should drink well for up to a decade. (RP)" (02/2005)

2003 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Chardonnay

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "For decades Hanzell has been making one of California’s most (and only) ageworthy Chards. The ’03 is one for the cellar, but it comes at the price of being hard in youth. Starts out flinty and tannic, although as it airs, new oak and pineapple emerge. This seems like a very good Hanzell. Best 2009–2015. " (11/2006) Wine Spectator: "Rich and intense, full-bodied and complex, with cedary oak, hazelnut and lead pencil flavors from oak, overshadowing a core of ripe apple, pear and melon, with a lingering spicy aftertaste. (JS)" (03/2006) 92 points Vinous: "Bright yellow-gold. Sexy aromas of orange liqueur and spices. Sweet, round and pure, with a lush texture verging on unctuous. And yet this is wonderfully aromatic and light on its feet. Very ripe and very complex in the mouth, with harmonious acids framing the flavors of orange oil, peach and spicy oak. 2003 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese #7

90 points Wine Spectator: "This lovely '03 spatlese combines the plush opulence of the year with attractive vanilla cream and floral notes, which remain concentrated and well-defined through the long finish." (04/2005) Vinous: "Very ripe and exotic on the nose, mingling quince and mango. Sleek, pure, creamy and refined in its display of tropical and orchard fruits, vanilla and malt. Lingering flavors of flowers, sweet herbs, spices and throat-coating fruit and wet stone. *Two Stars* (DS)" (01/2005) K&L Notes: According to importer Rudi Wiest: "Braune ...

2003 Château Musar Rouge Bekaa Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Chateau Musar seems very different than years such as 1981, but maybe that’s just because it is so young, or possibly because of the vintage or an increasing nod to modernity. Either way, this is a ripe, sexy Musar. It retains its elegant mid-palate as well as lovely fruit and fine balance. There is a slightly sweet tinge to the finish, perhaps a touch of a high-toned demeanor. The lush texture and surprising richness make this a rather luscious wine by Musar standards. It is showing little but baby fat ...

2003 Domaine Roger Perrin "Reserve des Vieilles Vignes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Vinous: "Deep, saturated red. Utterly seductive aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, kirsch, pungent floral oils, fresh meat and candied red licorice. Silky and lush in a way I rarely find outside world-class pinot noir, with almost overwhelming sweetness of berry fruit. This also possesses terrific power and thrust, finishing with dense, silky tones of creme de framboise, strawberry preserves and floral candies. This suave, entrancing wine is at the top of my "must buy" list from 2003. (JR)" (01/2006) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " ...

2003 Hollywood & Vine "2480" Napa ValleyCabernet Sauvignon

This wine accentuates its bold multi-faceted origins. Ripe wild plums dominate the aromas, while toasty spice and vanilla tones compliment the mouth filling purple fruit character. Texturally, the wine is broad and rich on the palate as plum, blackberry, clove and earthy notes dance together in a cohesive, complex expression of the variety. Harvested from three very unique growing regions, all within Napa Valley. The fruit comes from the highest reaches of Mount Veeder, the Oakville Bench (between the Tokalon and Harlan Estate), the historic J.J. Cohn es ...

2003 Lagrange, St-Julien

92 points John Gilman: "I expected to be able to spot the 2003 vintage easily in the vertical blind tasting of the château that I attended back at the start of 2007, but it was not easy to identify. This is of course a pretty strong endorsement for the success Lagrange has realized in this difficult and very hot vintage. The bouquet is already showing lovely, developed complexity in its more black fruity aromatic profile of dark berries, cassis, currant leaf, a bit of black cherry, woodsmoke and spicy oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and surpri ...

2003 Arnaldo-Caprai "Outsider" Umbria Rosso

3 points Gambero Rosso: "3 Glasses" Wine Spectator: "Clean berry and mineral aromas follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with medium tannins and a mineral finish. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon." (06/2006) K&L Notes: Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Matt Dylan (among others), young, greasy and clad in lots of form fitting denim. 2003 de Fargues, Sauternes

Robert Parker's original Wind Advocate review for this wine, which has 132-grams-per-liter residual sugar and an alcohol level of 13.9%, was 93 points in 2006. Following up in 2013, former Advocate reviewer Neal Martin preferred the 2005 and 2007 vintages, but favorably noted about the 2003 that "the palate has fine viscosity and spiciness on the entry – orange zest, mandarin and dried apricot at its heart."

2003 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Auslese #12 Mosel

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Produced from fruit harvested after the region’s first late-October freeze, the 2003 Riesling Auslese Graacher Himmelreich A.P. #1204 displays a sweet, botrytis-laced nose and a personality that reveals a mini-Eiswein’s focus and delineation. Powerful, deep, and with cutting precision, it releases sweet and sour flavors of minerals as well as hints of passion fruit. Projected maturity: 2009-2030. Then dense and compellingly sweet, with an enticing sugar/acid balance and firm tannic backbone. A very fruity wine with considerable early appeal; has a family resemblance to the Mark Herold's own Merus bottling. This is just under 15% alcohol. 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Pure and incisively fruity as only the best Russian River Pinot Noirs can be, this carefully crafted wine leads with involving aromas of sweet, ever-so-slightly-candied cherries and lovely, lightly caramelly oak. Its deep, concentrated flavors pick up on these themes without missing a beat, and they show terrific extension as they hang on and on at the finish. It has the velvety feel of fine Pinot as well as some real palatal flesh, and it will age famously providing that its near-term temptations can be ignored." (02/2006) ...

" (07/2006) K&L Notes: This Pinot Noir opens with compelling aromas of various black fruits: cherry, plum, raspberry, and currant. 2003 Neal Family "Chafen" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "At an elevation of 1,280 feet, this vineyard is located several miles west of the winery and on the lower slopes of Howell Mountain but with a warmer, west facing aspect. This vineyard will be certified organic in 2008. This is the most gripping wine of the set when fermenting. Now that the tannin profile has mellowed, there is cherry, cigar box, cedar and chocolate in the nose. A very big wine with earthy black fruit, cocoa powder and black licorice flavors. Always one of the most likely to improve with cellaring."

2003 Kenwood "Artist Series" Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon

Connoisseurs Guide: "Even accepting that Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape that delivers its fair share of tannin, this wine goes a little bit overboard in its late parts, and the ripe, rich aromas and reasonably fruity flavors that come before are more than a little bit occluded at the back. Still, there is fruit at its heart, and, for those willing to wait, the wine may well reward their patience." (12/2007) Wine Enthusiast: "The ’03 is elegant and sleek, with blackberry and cassis flavors that finish thoroughly dry. But even at 4-plus years, the tannins ...

2003 Neal Family "One Lane Bridge" Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "November 8, 2006 - This organically farmed and certified vineyard is located west of the city of Napa as you climb into the Mt. Veeder district. Here, the vines cover a southwest slope at 515 feet. Cooler than the up valley sites, this vineyard is closest to San Pablo Bay. Like the others, this wine is very dark purple in color. 2003 Hewitt Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Grown in the heart of the West Rutherford Bench, this rich, complex, deeply cast wine follows the highly ripe line that it has adopted in previous vintages as well. And, if that ripeness costs it a shot at the highest rating in these pages, the wine still has near perfect focus and an enormous amount of come-hither richness to its credit. It wants time to soften, and it certainly has the right stuff to grow in the bottle." (12/2006) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe, soft and polished, this is one of those Cabernets that f ...

Very well done for the vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot." (10/2005) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark ruby. The acidity is nicely concealed by the wine’s power and volume. This Burgundian-styled Pinot should drink well for 5-7 years."
