2000 Clos du Marquis, St-Julien
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Spectator: "The nose shows loads of plum, spice and meat aromas, as well as hints of licorice. It's full-bodied, with firm, yet velvety textured tannins. It's big and rounded. If you can't afford Las Cases, try some of this. Some might call this a second wine, but it comes from a plot of vineyards not deemed worthy of Léoville Las Cases. So it's like its own estate. *Smart Buy, Top 100 Wines of 2003* (JS)" (03/2003) 91 points James Suckling: "This is very open with plum and sweet tobacco notes, and a round and juicy body. Really just sta...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted from an ex-château bottle in Bordeaux, I was not surprised to find the 2000 Château Haut-Brion flirting with perfection. The nose is simply breathtaking - quintessential Haut-Brion with ebullient red berry fruit, roasted herbs, gravel, terracotta tiles on a warm summer's day...it is simply wave after wave of intoxicating scents that could bring even the most stoic person to tears of joy. The palate displays heavenly balance, pitch-perfect acidity, perhaps spicier than previous bottles that I have tasted, a...

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and the large format bottle will have helped to preserve freshness.
Price: $34.99

94 points John Gilman: "Eric d’Aramon commented on the 2000 Figeac that if he had it to do all over again, he might have waited just a few days longer before starting to pick at the estate. This vintage shows a bit of youthful bell pepper and fresh herb tones of old school claret, and to my palate, I see nothing amiss with the youthful aromatic and flavor profiles of this very deep, pure and soil-driven Figeac. The complex and utterly classic nose jumps from the glass in a superb mélange of cherries, raw cocoa, fresh herb tones, just a touch of youthful ...

92 points James Suckling: "This is very perfumed, with mushrooms, berries, and even strawberries. Full and round on the palate with soft tannins and lovely sweet finish. This is very long and balanced, but still needs time. Just starting to open up now, but give it a couple of years." (02/2011) 92 points Vinous: "Good full ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of cassis, violet, shoe polish, tar and smoke. Sweet, ripe and luscious, with earthy underbrush and blackberry flavors lingering impressively on the aftertaste. A very fleshy, ripe Giscours that remains prec...

Wine Spectator: "A delicate and silky little wine, with berry and mineral character. Best after 2003. (JS, Web Only-2003)" K&L Notes: Chateau Lestage is located at the highest point of the entire Médoc, on the Puy de Menjon, 130 feet above see level- a mountain for Bordeaux. The vineyard is planted to 63% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot with an average vine age of 20 years. This wonderful, medium bodied Bordeaux has been aged to perfection for you, and is drinking wonderfully right now.
Price: $39.99

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby-red. Liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and licorice. Lush, fat and full in the mouth, with superb concentration and richness. A seamless wine with great Chateauneuf du Pape character. Complicating notes of tar and chocolate. Finishes with dusty, broad tannins and great persistence. This can be enjoyed now with the right dishes but should age gracefully. (ST)" (01/2003) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fully mature, with a ruby/amber color that shows some lighte...

100 points James Suckling: "The nose is fresh, bright, and dense. With aromas of violets, minerals, spices, cool stones, mint, dark fruits, and plum skins, this is beautiful. Very much still a baby right now, it needs much more time. This is a wine for the next generation. Finesse and elegance, truly a wine that makes you contemplate life. This is not about power, there is really nothing like it. " (02/2011) 99 points Wine Enthusiast: "Perhaps of all the first growths in the totally un-classic 2000, this retains most of the classic Bordeaux. It is cert...

2000 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (1.5L)
New!
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The best since the 1990, the 2000 Pichon-Longueville Baron is just now starting to shed some baby fat and develop additional complexity and layers. This still ruby/plum-colored beauty boasts a phenomenal nose of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, lead pencil shavings, and new saddle leather. It’s deep, full-bodied, and sexy, with incredible amounts of texture and opulence that keeps you coming back to the glass. It makes a mockery of so many Bordeaux today that are made in a so-called elegant style yet lack the fat, richness, and densit...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I find this to be a spectacular Pichon Lalande. Dense purple in color, with loads of coffee, mocha, crème de cassis, and chocolate notes, this is a somewhat unusual blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and a whooping 10% Petit Verdot, with a little bit of Cabernet Franc. The Petit Verdot certainly gives the wine more of a tapenade, floral note, which I think can be interpreted by some as herbal. (RP)" (06/2010) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Madame de Lencquesaing’s estate has produced a stunner in 2000. T...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Fonseca continues to exude finesse and focus on the nose, with pure blackberry, juniper berries, licorice and a touch of sloes, perhaps as Adrian Bridge remarked, just beginning to close after ten years in bottle. The palate is underpinned by very fine tannins, a sensual, svelte texture with wonderful acidity. The harmony and symmetry is alluring, the finish precise and demonstrating the persistency to suggest a long future ahead. (NM)" (12/2013) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "S...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the wines of the vintage, the 2000 has barely budged in its evolution since it was bottled and released in 2002. After ten years in bottle, it still reveals a dense opaque purple color along with a potentially sensational bouquet of blueberries, black currants, graphite, asphalt and background oak. Extremely powerful, full-bodied and superbly concentrated with good acidity and high but round tannins, this massive La Mission-Haut-Brion should take its place among this estate’s most hallowed vintages when i...

Each vintage since 1975 Kenwood has released a singular Cabernet Sauvignon produced from top vineyards in Sonoma County with a unique label designed by an esteemed artist. The artistry and the wine within together capture a particular moment in time and terroir that can never be duplicated. The "Artist Series" is always a rich and concentrated Cabernet true to the vintage, and each bottling becomes a vintage collectible both because of the age-worthy wine in the bottle and the one-and-only artistic label outside the bottle. The 2000 is an elegant, concen...

92-94 points Wine Spectator: "Smooth, rich and deeply concentrated, with layers of ripe, juicy fruit— currant, black cherry, plum and blackberry. Turns elegant and sophisticated, with a neatly tapered finish. (Web-2001)"

2000 Calera "Reed Vineyard" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Palish red, with some brick at the rim. Intriguing aromas of strawberry, rhubarb, woodsmoke and baking spices. Juicy, precise and rather delicate, with nuanced flavors of strawberry, earth and gunflint. More harmonious than the Jensen, conveying a stronger impression of soil tones. Far more interesting than your everyday California Pinot Noir. (ST)" (07/2005) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard reveals a light ruby color along with classic scents of underbrush, stems, ...
Price: $119.99

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The acids hit you first. They perk up a creamy wine with pleasant flavors of cherries, cola, mocha and spice. It’s dry and balanced. The impression is of a lovely Pinot that combines delicacy and elegance with power. Drink now and over the next four years. " (02/2005) K&L Notes: While this elegant Pinot Noir is fashioned to resemble its Burgundian forbears, there is an intensity of fruit that makes its Californian roots well known. Blackberry, dark cherry and plum greet the senses. The fine texture, with enough backbone to s...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby-colored 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon has a nose reminiscent of a blackberry-flavored Yoplait yogurt laced with roasted oak and hints of licorice. A full-bodied wine of power and structure, it is crammed with black currants, blackberries, and spices. Its dense fruit is matched blow for blow with a muscular, firm structure. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020. (PR)" (12/2002) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Announces itself as a serious red from the first whiff of earthy, smoky notes weaving through the licorice-...

2000 Pavie-Decesse, St-Emilion (6L)
New!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gerard Perse’s 2000 Pavie Decesse, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a vineyard situated above Pavie, on the steep limestone hillsides outside the walled town of St.-Emilion, is a fabulous effort (all the Perse wines are stunning in this vintage). Notes of camphor, creme de cassis, violets, black currants, cedar, and licorice jump from the glass of this inky/purple-hued offering. Monumental richness, sensational sweet tannin, a skyscraper-like mid-palate, and a 45+-second finish result in an extra...

88-91 points Vinous: "Good full red. Lovely perfumed aromas of red fruits, minerals, licorice and leather. Smooth entry, then suave and vibrant, with a restrained sweetness and better retention of primary fruit than the Combe aux Moines. Fresh and nicely delineated. Finishes with fine, late tannins and very good fruit. (ST)" (03/2002)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The first offering in what turned out to be a remarkable decade for this property, the 2000 Clos Fourtet was the finest wine produced here in many years, but it was subsequently eclipsed by the 2003, 2005, 2008, and 2009. The dense plum/purple-tinged 2000 exhibits notes of wet rocks, camphor, blackberries, and cassis. Full-bodied with tremendous density, it appears to have shed much of its tannin, and is through its adolescent stage. It should continue to evolve effortlessly for another decade. (RP)" (06/2010) ...

2000 Monbousquet, St-Emilion
Back In Stock!
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is a seductive, rich, generously endowed effort revealing plenty of spice box, herb, black currant, kirsch, espresso, and toasty oak characteristics in a decidedly modern, but opulent, fleshy style. Enjoy this endearing, long, velvety-textured St.-Emilion over the next decade. (RP)" (06/2010) 92 points Vinous: "Bright ruby-red. Roasted currant and black cherry scents complicated by sexy oak. At once chewy and silky in the mouth, with complex, fresh flavors of plum, redcurrant, vanilla, coffee, smoky oak and ...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dense ruby/purple, with a glorious nose of blackberries, cassis, white flowers, licorice, and a hint of sweet oak, this seamless wine is a classic example of purity and symmetry. Combining power with charm and finesse in a deeply textured, rich, elegant, yet authoritatively flavorful style, this is a brilliant effort as well as a compliment to proprietor Christian Moueix. (RP)" (04/2003) 95 points James Suckling: "I had this a few days ago with friends at Island Tang, my favorite Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Drinking beautifully, the 2000 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape just oozes kirsch and licorice aromas on the nose. With air, meat, garrigue, and spice come through and I think this is smack dab in the middle of its drinking window. Beautifully textured, elegant and balanced, I would start opening bottles and wouldn’t be surprised to see this continue to drink well through 2020 or longer." (08/2010) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Burgundian-styled 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape is drinking at point today. Possessing be...

2000 l'Evangile, Pomerol (1.5L)
New!
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2000 Château l’Evangile is blockbuster stuff and just about as good as it gets. This Merlot-dominated beauty shows some maturity but is still powerful, concentrated, and layered, with killer notes of currants, chocolate, smoked earth and spice. It has sweet tannin, an opulent, sexy texture, no hard edges and a great finish, all making it an incredible drink today. Nevertheless, it will keep for another 15+ years in cool cellars." (02/2018) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an absolutely spectacular L’Evangile...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Among the most saturated blue/purple/black-colored examples of the vintage, Taylor's 2000 tastes like a young vintage of Chateau Latour on steroids. Aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and smoke jump from the glass. Spectacularly concentrated and enormously endowed, with sweetness allied to ripe tannin, decent acidity, and layer upon layer of fruit and extract, this is the leading candidate for the port of the vintage. (RP)" (10/2002) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This was perhaps the most pro...

96 points James Suckling: "Decadent aromas of strawberry tart, earth, meat, spices, that gives way to flowers and currants. Full and very soft, with refined tannins with a very long finish. This is just starting to open up right now, a real beauty. Soft and delicious with a great future. This will be better in 5 years, but you can enjoy this now." (12/2010) 94 points Wine Spectator: "This has a strapping, still-youthful core of blackberry, boysenberry and fig confiture flavors, wonderfully studded with ganache and sweet tobacco accents. The finish is l...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Extremely young with an unbelievable deep purple color, the 2000 Troplong Mondot has hardly budged since I tasted it in 2003. Two recent tastings confirmed that this is the greatest Troplong Mondot between their profound 1990 and more recent vintages such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Copious chocolate, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and ink characteristics are present in this full-bodied, powerful, massive St.-Emilion. While the tannins are noticeable, they are better integrated than they were seven years a...

2000 Domaine de Marcoux "Vieilles Vignes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Back In Stock!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes carries its 15% alcohol well. Though a compelling offering, and undoubtedly one of the wines of the vintage, it does not possess that magical extra dimension of greatness found in the 2001. Nevertheless, I would be thrilled to drink it anytime ... anywhere! The floral component of white flowers intermixed with melted licorice, blackberry liqueur, plums, and prunes is followed by an expansive, sexy, silky-textured, full-bodied Chateauneuf with great depth, purity, and l...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a deep plum/ruby color along with a sweet nose of dried herbs, loamy soil, and black currants. Medium to full-bodied, soft, but undistinguished, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon should be consumed over the next 5-6 years. Given the ambitious pricing policy, I’m surprised there is not more to this wine than what meets the eye and palate." (12/2003)
Price: $99.99

91 points Wine & Spirits: "(no tasting note given)" (02/2004) Wine Spectator: "High-toned fruit and oak aromas lead to a medium-weight wine, with herb, cranberry and currant. Finishes with earth and anise notes and firm tannins." (11/2003)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Syrah, which sees about 25-35% new oak, is a 252-case cuvee exhibiting a dense ruby/purple color along with fragrant aromas of licorice, black fruits, earth, and pepper. Aromatic, medium to full-bodied, and supple-textured, it will drink well for 4-5 years. " (12/2003) Wine Spectator: "An elegant wine that offers subtle blackberry and black cherry fruit and a good dose of spicy oak for flavor and structure." (04/2003)
Price: $39.99

2000 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for wine of the vintage, the gorgeous 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Madrona Ranch (93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) boasts an inky/purple color as well as a sumptuous perfume of violets, blackberries, blueberries, and coffee offered in a medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, accessible style. Unlike Abreu’s biggest vintages, the 2000 is already delicious, and promises to evolve for 12-15 years. (RP)" (12/2003)
Price: $198.99

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2000 La Conseillante is brilliant (this was tasted from magnum) and while mature, is still youthful and vibrant. Deep ruby/purple colored and loaded with notions of currants, plums, chocolate, Asian spice, and incense, it offers full-bodied richness, fine tannin, and a silky, elegant, yet concentrated style on the palate. This beauty can be drunk anytime over the coming two decades or more." (02/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Conseillante made an excellent wine in 2001, another great one in 2005, and the ...

2000 Gigault "Cuvée Viva," Côtes de Blaye
Back In Stock!
As prices continue to skyrocket for classed growths in Bordeaux, we continue to find pockets of great value red, like this one from Blaye. Predominantly merlot, this wine exhibits aromas of tobacco, vanilla and black cherries, which are carried through to the medium-bodied, elegant palate. Made by Stephane Derenoncourt of Canon la Gaffelière and Clos de l'Oratoire--among others.
Price: $34.99

93 points Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "The most widely available of the current Dehlinger bunch, it is a very lovely, rich, well-concentrated, outgoing wine from its first aromas of ripe cherries, creamy oak, caramel and hints of berry to its broad, velvety mouthfeel and deep, succulent flavors. It is energetic and alive from front to back, and if not quite sporting the dazzling intensity of the High Plains bottling, it has picked up some of the age-encouraging acidity that is so much a part of the Octagon bottling." (10/03) According to Rob...

From the winery: "Aromas of pie cherry and violets are pure, clean, and delineated. In the background subtle hints of blueberry, cranberry, plum, and allspice play a supporting role. The structure of this wine demands attention, clearly not yielding all of its riches and suggesting that the best drinking is yet to come...Once again, the intense perfume of this special vineyard leaves no doubt as to its varietal identity and origins. What else could it be but mountain Pinot Noir from mature vines and distinctive terroir?"
Price: $49.99

92 points Wine & Spirits: "No tasting note given." (10/2003) Wine Spectator: "Deft balance, with elegant, complex flavors. Offers a mix of fleshy plum and cherry fruit along with a nice scent of fresh earth, herbs and minerals. (JL)" (09/2003) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Pinot Noir Octagon Vineyard is a French-tasting effort. It boasts copious amounts of strawberry and cherry fruit intermixed with soil, subtle wood, and a hint of root beer, good ripeness, medium body, and a compressed but pleasant finish. (RP)" (08/2002) Stephen Tanzer...

98 points WIne Spectator: "This is special. The mango, orange and fig fruit is both dry and juicy at the same time, while the clove, ginger, earth, oolong tea and mineral nuances build and build in intensity on the finish, which glides despite obvious power. Loaded to the gills, but not heady in the least. Should cruise for some time. Drink now through 2025. 30 cases imported." (06/03)
