1999 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Auslese Nahe (375ml)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Marzipan and honey aromas are tinged with botrytis smokiness. A candied raspberry impression seems as yet in search of an extra jolt of acids or buffering extract to ameliorate its sweetness. But there is no denying the formidable concentration and clarity of botrytis fruit on display here. To the cellar with this one! Potential 2 stars. (DS)" (02/2001)

1999 Beaulieu Vineyard "Tapestry Reserve" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Rich in oak and rich in fruit, this deep, well-ripened offering delivers a solid measure of cassis with a wealth of vanilla and a mild overlay of dusty spice. It is moderately full-bodied and nicely balanced in feel, and its sense of developing suppleness portends very good things to come. It is also fairly tannic and a little too rough to commend for present drinking, but its admirable fruit emerges intact at the finish and points the way to four or five years of steady improvement." (12/2002) Wine Enthusiast: "This Bord ...

1999 Chateau de la Gardine Chateauneuf-du-Pape

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby/purple-colored 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape displays an impressive constitution, with full body, considerable structure, and admirable delineation. Spice box, vanillin, and black fruits show through, but the wine is big, backward, and needing 2-3 years of cellaring, somewhat atypical for a 1999. It should last for 15+ years. (RMP)" (10/2000) Wine Spectator: "Good flavors, with licorice and chalk. Medium-bodied, with nice red and black fruit and a firm tannin structure. Intense, crisp aftertaste. Dr ...

1999 St. Clement "Oroppas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

90 points Wine Spectator: "Generous, ripe, rich, polished currant, plum, black cherry and blackberry fruit is shaded by pretty, toasty-roasted coffee- and mocha-flavored oak. Tannins are fine and well-integrated. Very showy now and worthy of short-term cellaring. (JL)" (10/2001) Wine Enthusiast: "What a complex nose on this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab Franc. The dominant aroma is a leathery, grilled meat scent, alongside charred oak. Blackberry tea and cherry flavors show up in the mouth, where it's dry, with pure, soft tannins." (06/20 ...

1999 Schweiger Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "Somewhat rustic, with a mix of rich, earthy, cedary, green olive, herb, mineral and currant flavors that are intense and well-proportioned, finishing with firm tannins and an herbaceous streak. Needs time." (10/2002)

1999 La Closerie du Poujeaux, Moulis

This great, ready to drink Bordeaux is composed of aproximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Chateau La Closerie du Grand Poujeaux is a direct neighbor of Chasse-Spleen, and like that Chateau is an almost secret, insiders Bordeaux. Moulis sits between Margaux and St. Julien, and this wine reflects that origin, with both great purfume and dark cassis power. It also has the texture that only time in the bottle can bring. A great value in ready to drink Bordeaux! -Gary Westby

1999 Rieussec, Sauternes (375ml)

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Explosive aromas of apricot, peach, minerals, creme caramel, grilled nuts and spices, along with cooler hints of licorice and menthol. Thick, sweet and chewy with extract; an impressively mouthfilling wine with lovely framing acidity. Characteristically big and peachy. Finishes spicy, shapely and very long. The class of the tasting. " (08/2002) Jancis Robinson: "Half-bottle. Absolutely phenomenal nose - nectarine, loads of spice and honey and lemon curd. Tremendous length and viscosity, miraculously ...

1999 Duckhorn Napa Valley Merlot

This Merlot is more like a Bordeaux blend. 79% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, 100% French oak aged, of which 50% was new oak, and the wine stays in barrel for 18 months. Soft, ripe and upfront, with flavors of vanilla, minerals and sweet herbs, the '99 Duckhorn Merlot is a rich and concentrated wine that is silky on the palate and long on the finish. The wine is drinking well right now and will develop in a cellar over the next five years. (Trey Beffa, K&L Domestic buyer)
