Bid on this bottle of 1978 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 95JG, 93VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This was a fabulous showing for the 1978 Monte Bello, which is another of the high points of this great decade for Ridge. The wine offers up a rich and kaleidoscopically complex bouquet of black truffles, dark chocolate, black currants, pencil shavings and Egyptian musk. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and complete, with ripe, melting tannins, an ample core of fruit and a long, tangy finish. It gets better and better with air. The 1978 is a touch more savory and a little less lavishly textural than the 1974, but the two are very close in ultimate quality. Connoisseurs will be interested to learn that a portion of the 1978 was rebottled due to an incomplete malolactic fermentation: antique olive bottles indicate the rebottled 1978, whereas the original bottles are in Champagne green. This tasting note refers to a pristine exa

Bid on this bottle of 1978 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97DC, 97JG). Decanter: "1978 is justly renowned as a legendary vintage for Martha's Vineyard, and the wine certainly doesn't disappoint. A bouquet of sweet cassis, loamy soil, tobacco leaf, redcurrant and plum fruit is complemented by the Martha's Vineyard minty signature. On the palate there is impressive concentration and notably fresh acids. Decanting is strongly recommended. Drinking Window 2016-2035. (WK)" (06/2016)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1978 Clos du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91WS). Wine Spectator: "Ripe and opulent, with rich, complex layers of currant, anise and cherry-scented flavors. The tannins are firm but polished. Drinking exceptionally well now and should hold through 1998.--1978 California Cabernet horizontal. (JL)" (11/1992)

Bid on this bottle of 1978 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Cask 23" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 94CG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at “The Wine Society” with Warren Winiarski. At the Cask 23 vertical this was one of the highlights: very “Pauillac” on the nose: cedar, charcoal and tobacco. It has brilliant definition and vigor for such a mature wine. The palate exhibits very structured tannin, perfect acidity and again, a very traditional, Bordeaux like austerity. Blackberry, tobacco and decayed leaves. Very stylish with some sweet cherry and orange peel on the finish. Just has a swaggering, confidence about it, accompanied by a natural feel. One of the greatest Napa Cabernet's I have tasted. (NM)" (05/2009)

Bid on this bottle of 1978 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was founded in the early 1970s by the Winiarski family on land that would eventually become part of the Stags Leap AVA in Napa Valley. The Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend had its first vintage in 1972, and rose to rapid fame in 1976 when it beat out the likes of Mouton-Rothschild and Haut-Brion at the blind Judgement of Paris tasting that is widely credited with putting California's wine industry on the map. Winery note: "Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was known only in the Napa Valley until the now-famous 1976 Paris Tasting, when Winiarski's 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon, the first wine produced at the new winery, bested four top-ranked Bordeaux entries, including first-growths Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. The tasting landed Stag's Leap Wine Cellars squarely among the ranks of the world's most noteworthy Cabernet producers and placed Winiarski among the ranks of worl

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1978 Inglenook "Limited Cask" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon . One of the iconic estates in Napa Valley, Inglenook is a centerpiece of nearly every chapter in the valley's modern history. These bottlings from the 1970s are some of the clearest expressions of the classic style of Napa Cab that put the region on the map. Inglenook was famous at the time for bottling extremely small, limited edition runs of individual lots from the estate. These wines are exceedingly rare on the market today.
