90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A toasty nose of menthol, black currant and plenty of spice elements introduces very fresh, concentrated and mouth coating medium-bodied flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the utterly delicious middle weight flavors. I very much like the vibrancy and intensity to the impressively long and firm finish and while this is perhaps not quite as elegant as it usually is, there is plenty to like here." (04/2015) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets "Ancienne Cuvée...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets exhibits lovely aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with orange rind, spice and raw cocoa. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and fine-boned, from more calcium-rich soils than Les Chevrets and built around bright acids and fine, chalky tannins. (WK)" (01/2020) K&L Notes: 89-91pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Always the first to be picked, and this year has been vinified half traditionally and half in barrel. Black purple in colour, I feared for over ripe...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets is showing beautifully, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, rose petals, cassis and violets. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with an ample chassis of powdery tannins, fine concentration and succulent acids. From a parcel of 58-year-old vines, this is a quintessentially elegant Volnay that should also drink well young. (WK)" (01/2020) K&L Notes: 92-95pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Very dense purple, with a wealth of fruit that is certainly ripe, bu...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Invariably a highlight of the portfolio, Boillot's 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets derives from a low-yielding 60-are parcel of 55-year-old vines. Unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of wild berries, plums, raw cocoa and sweet soil tones, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, its concentrated core of vibrant fruit underlined by succulent acids and framed by chalky tannins. This is a brilliant wine that's worth a special effort to seek out. (WK)" (01/2020) K&L Notes: 89-93pts Jasper Mo...

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here too the nose is cool, elegant, airy and high-toned with its pretty array of red cherry, spice and rose petal-suffused aromas. The intense and well-detailed bigger-bodied flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before culminating in a stony, youthfully austere and balanced finale. Like the Pommard villages, this is not particularly concentrated yet the overall sense of harmony makes this quite attractive." (04/2019)

John Gilman: "The normally quite robust and meaty Champans is significantly smaller-scaled than the norm in 2001, but still offers up on the nose a classic Volnay mélange of red cherries, red currants, coffee, woodsmoke, soil tones and somewhere in the background a whiff of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, complex and displays good shape and focus, with good acids and a bit of firm tannin perking up on the finish." (02/2003) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Smoke and meat on the nose, with autumnal notes of...

95 points Decanter: "Deeper in colour than some of the d'Angerville wines in 2017, although that is no indication of quality, this comes from the high part of the premier cru close to the Clos des Chênes. Dense yet focussed with stylish, scented oak and a sturdy tannic backbone, this is another classy red from François Duvivier. Drinking Window 2024 - 2032. (TA)" (10/2018) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is one of the more ethereal wines in the cellar, exhibiting classy aromas of red cherries, spices,...

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the nose offers a step up in aromatic depth with its very spicy nose of both red and blue pinot fruit that is trimmed in plenty of warm earth and floral character. There is an almost pungent minerality to the broad-shouldered and palate staining medium weight flavors that are utterly delicious before culminating in an explosively long but focused, balanced, chalky and mouth coating finish. A knockout." (04/2013) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-les-Milieu comes from a...

From the importer: "Maison Roche de Bellene is the négociant (making wine with fruit from other growers) of Nicolas Potel, the well-known and highly regarded winemaker in Burgundy. Nicolas is an old friend of Ernst Loosen, and we are extremely happy to have him as part of our import portfolio. Founded in 2009, the emphasis at Roche de Bellene is on individual terroirs from vieilles vignes (old vines — 40 years or older) that are farmed responsibly. All of the growers that Nicolas works with are either BIO certified or farming according to the principles...

96 points Decanter: "Living up to Taillepieds' reputation as one of Volnay's very best premiers crus, this old-vine cuvée from a steep 1.05ha parcel on white clay and limestone soils is a revelation. Amazingly fresh and vibrant, it's a Pinot lover's Pinot Noir, with the texture, brightness and sense of wonder that make Burgundy so special. Drinking Window 2025 - 2032. (TA) " (10/2018) 92-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "from a 1.07 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines). Here the reticent nose is at once ripe yet cool with a lovely layered quality to t...

97 points Decanter: "This superb 2.15ha monopole, located on white clay soils just behind the winery and high on the slopes above Volnay, has made one of the great wines of the vintage in 2017. It's powerful, structured and complex, with layers of red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate fruit, sinewy tannins and pools of concentration. A stylishly oaked wine that's long, mineral and satisfying. Drinking Window 2025 - 2035. (TA) " (10/2018) 94-96 points Vinous: "The 2017 Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru is the famous crown jewel monopole of the domaine, ost...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs" ((93-94JG), 92RP, 91BH, 90ST). John Gilman: "The 2004 Clos des Ducs is reasonably open on the nose, but the door is still slammed shut on the palate. The nose offers up a fine, primary blend of red berries, quince, a bit of blood orange, coffee, strong soil tones, herbs, vinesmoke and delicate violets. On the palate the wine is fullish, very complex for a young wine and beautifully balanced, with a rock solid core of fruit, and a very long, very closed finish. The acids here give the wine a beautiful, tensile quality, and the ripe tannins are just buried in the structure of the wine. This will be excellent." (01/2006)

95 points Decanter: "Fermented with 40% whole bunches for the first time in 2017 as an experiment, this has to be considered a success, adding a layer of Asian spices to the wine. Precise and refined, with lots of sappy, refreshing fruit, this is one of a series of delightful Lafarge wines this year. Drinking Window 2023 - 2030. (TA) " (10/2018) 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again the elegant nose is cool, airy and restrained with its gorgeous aromas of rose petal, lavender and freshly crushed cherry and raspberry scents that are liber...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An appealingly layered nose is also admirably fresh and bright with its mix of various red and dark berries that also display hints of spice and earth. The rich and attractively textured medium weight flavors manage to retain equally good detail on the softly mineral-inflected finish that it at once finer, more complex, longer and better balanced." (04/2019) 91 points John Gilman: "The 2017 Volnay villages from the Lafarges adds yet more sappiness to the mid-palate in comparison to the wines that preceded it in ...

91-93 points Vinous: "(this fruit was picked in early October, destemmed but not crushed, and vinified with virtually no extraction, according to Mounir Saouma, who added that production was down 50% from a normal year): Bright red-ruby. Pure but restrained aromas of dusty stone and violet; I thought I smelled something of volcanic origin, but perhaps it was just a remaining touch of reduction. The palate conveys excellent depth to the flavors of raspberry, spices, violet and milk chocolate. Very complete Volnay if a bit youthfully bound-up. Finishes wit...

93 points Decanter: "A super village cuvée sourced from four different parcels, all of them next to the premiers crus that dominate the centre of the appellation. This has more colour than Lafarge's entry point Volnay, as well as more concentration, grip and texture. It still has the balance that's the hallmark of the domaine's wine, but also more weight. Drinking Window 2022-2029. (TA) " (10/2018) 92 points John Gilman: "he 2017 Volnay “Vendanges Selectionées” is even a touch deeper and sappier than the straight villages bottling, delivering fine ar...

94 points Decanter: "This 1.6ha parcel is in the middle of the slope, two metres above the Clos des Angles on poor, stony soils over a limestone base. Crunchy, elegant and refined, it has lovely texture, raspberry sweetness and fine-boned tannins, finishing with a saline, mineral bite. (TA)" (10/2018) 92-94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Volnay Fremiet 1er Cru has an expressive bouquet with veins of blue fruit that strafe the vibrant raspberry and crushed strawberry. Here there is fine mineralité tucked just underneath. The palate is vibrant, almost efferves...
