1979 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1979 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion. Cheval Blanc is a Premier Grand Cru Classé A — one of a small number of elite St-Emilion producers at the top of their classification. Holding a pretty impressive 91 acres of land in this small appellation, the winery makes one of Bordeaux's most profound and collectible wines. Cheval Blanc is often (and understandably) confused with Bordeaux's first growths, but the 1855 classification did not extend to St-Emilion. The deserved praises of Cheval Blanc have been sung for quite some time, notably by Robert Parker, having a great effect on the popularity of the wine. The vineyards are planted to 66% Cabernet Franc and 34% Merlot. The 2012 cuvée is 46% Cabernet Franc and 54% Merlot.

2006 Angélus, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2006 Angélus, St-Emilion (97DC, 95WE, 94RP, 93ST, 93WS, 92W&S). Decanter: "Double decanted but still extremely tannic, this hsa layers of muscle even at 13 years old. It's very different in style from the others in the lineup: here, I get more menthol notes alongside the dense layers of fruit, rich tobacco, earth and olive tapenade. It's beautiful in depth and persistency, with the first hints of secondary characters in its truffle hit on the finish. (JA)" (11/2018)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Angélus, St-Emilion (100JD, 100RP, 97JS, 97VN, 96ST, 96W&S, 96WS, 95CG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Truly great stuff, this wine performed at a three-digit level both in the horizontal tasting of 2005s in Baltimore, as well as in Montreal at this mini-vertical. This sensational, opaque, bluish/purple wine offers up notes of vanillin, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, plus a touch of licorice. The wine hits the palate with a thunderous cascade of ripe, rich, concentrated fruit. It is full-bodied, multidimensional and layered. The tannins are beautifully integrated but still present, and the wood, acidity, alcohol, etc., are all beautifully assimilated in this magnificent, majestic vintage of Angelus. It can be drunk now, but it is still an adolescent and that suggests it has at least another 25-35 years of longevity. (RP)" (08/2015)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1996 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion ((90-92RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "First tasted in April 1998: very dark ruby colour. Nose sweet and feminine and quite attractive. Beautifully balanced with classy, sweet liquorish fruits. Harmonious. Superb wine for long-term aging. Retasted in Bordeaux in July 2003: a very fragrant nose, loaded with spice, glycerin and raspberry. The palate is still quite tannic but there is great concentration of liquorice infused fruits. Good grip. Blackcurrant and burnt toast on the finish. Superb. (NM)" (01/2000)

2005 Pavie, St-Emilion
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pavie, St-Emilion (100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 96WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gérard Perse believes this is the greatest Pavie he’s made to date, although certainly I would argue that list includes the 2000, as well as the 2009 and 2010, among his superstars. This wine, which I had both in the 2005 horizontal report in the Wine Advocate, and at a mini-vertical with Perse at the restaurant Maison Boulud in Montreal, looks to be a 75- to 100-year wine. Dense, opaque purple to the rim, with a gorgeously promising nose of blackberries, cassis, graphite and cedar wood just beginning to emerge, it tastes more like a three-year-old than wine that is already a decade old. This beauty is intense and full-bodied, with magnificent concentration, a majestic mouthfeel and a total seamless integration of tannin, wood, alcohol, etc. Beautifully rich, full and multidimensional, this is a tour de force in winemaking and certainly one of the top dozen or so 2005 Bo

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautiful effort from Monbousquet, this 2005 comes across to me as one of their strongest efforts, with notes of toasty oak, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit as well as some licorice, incense and flowers. Full-bodied and opulent, this is an amazing wine from a terroir on the so-called “wrong side” of St.-Emilion. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. It is an amazing performance. (RP)" (06/2015)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another tiny St.-Emilion operation (7.5 acres, with one parcel of Merlot planted in 1901), Lucia’s brilliantly executed 2005 boasts an inky/purple/blue color along with a sweet perfume of blueberries, blackberries, charcoal, incense, Asian spices, and hints of coffee and pain grille in the background. This full-bodied, powerful, layered St.-Emilion is filled with fruit extract, glycerin, and tannin. It displays a certain accessibility, but it will undoubtedly be at its finest in 4-10 years, and keep for 25. This is another sumptuous wine from consultant Stephane Derenoncourt" (04/2008)

2000 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Extremely young with an unbelievable deep purple color, the 2000 Troplong Mondot has hardly budged since I tasted it in 2003. Two recent tastings confirmed that this is the greatest Troplong Mondot between their profound 1990 and more recent vintages such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Copious chocolate, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and ink characteristics are present in this full-bodied, powerful, massive St.-Emilion. While the tannins are noticeable, they are better integrated than they were seven years ago, and the fruit, extract, and richness clearly outweigh the wine’s structure. This 2000 will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring (longer than I originally predicted), and has at least two decades of drinkability ahead of it. (RP)" (06/2010)

Seamless and captivating in the glass, it possesses magnificent richness, volume and intensity in every dimension. The Cabernet Franc, usually such a strong signature, is nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the Merlot fruit. Espresso, mocha, licorice and plum infuse the racy finish. Jeb Dunnuck: "Possibly the wine of the vintage, the 2008 Pavie has the elegance of the Pavie Decesse and the power of the Mondotte. It’s a brilliant, sexy beauty loaded with notions of crème de cassis, blackberries, spice box, and licorice, with a classic Saint-Emilion-like liquid rock minerality. This all carries to a full-bodied Saint-Emilion that offers loads of fruit and texture, yet remains fabulous polished, elegant, and balanced. It’s a wine that builds incrementally on the palate, with beautiful depth of fruit and ripe tannins. Bravo to Gerard Perse for another tour de force in Bordeaux! Drink it any time over the coming 30 years or more. The blend of the 2008 is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon." (02/2019)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), St-Emilion (100RP, 98WS, 96JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most singular Bordeaux I have ever tasted, it verges on being port-like, but it pulls back because of the extraordinary minerality and laser-like focus. The wine is massively concentrated, still black/purple-hued to the rim, and offers a nose of incense, blackberries, blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers, and forest floor. It reveals low acidity and high tannins, which are largely concealed by the sheer concentration and lavish glycerin the wine possesses. Aging at a glacial pace, it is approachable, but it will not hit its peak until 2020; it should last for twenty years thereafter. (RP)" (06/2009)

2008 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A brilliant effort for this vintage, yields were a mere 10 hectoliters per hectare in 2008 and the result is only 8,000 bottles produced. Opulent, fleshy and full-bodied, this wine has reigned in the excruciatingly high level of tannins, but the 15% alcohol gives it loads of glycerin as well as a chewy mouthfeel. Inky/purple-colored and super-concentrated with relatively civilized tannins, this stunning 2008 should be accessible in 3-5 years (atypical for Clos de Sarpe) and drink well for 30+.
