2016 de Chantegrive Rouge, Graves
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "One of the leading estates in the Graves has produced an elegant, balanced wine. Wood aging has added to the fruit tannins to give plenty of structure to go with the black-currant fruits. This is a wine to age, drink from 2023. (RV)" (06/2019) 90 points James Suckling: "Some chocolate and leafy, cabernet character on the nose, but the fruit seems ripe enough on the generous palate. Slightly chewy finish. Just a year longer in the bottle ought to help. A blend of 50 per cent Merlot and 50 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon." (02/201...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Consistently one of the top, under-the-radar wines of Pessac-Leognan, Haut-Bergey's beautiful 2006 boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a classic bouquet of hot rocks intermixed with graphite, cassis, incense, and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied with noticeable but sweet tannin, impressive purity, and an alluring texture, it is relatively evolved for a 2006, so consumption over the next 15 years is recommended. (RP)" (02/2009) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep ruby-red. Wil...

I’m excited to introduce to you our latest DI – Direct import from Bordeaux; Ch. L’Avocat from the small commune of Cerons which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier this year. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost eight weeks later and was shown the gravely, plateau vineyards by her husband Sean who ma...

92-93 points James Suckling: "Lots of walnut and berry character. Medium-to full-bodied, round and silky with a lovely chocolate undertone. Very polished and juicy. So fine and racy." (04/2017) 93 points Decanter: "So elegant, right from the first nose. The fourth vintage under Haut-Bailly ownership (because they declassified the 2013), this has appealing rich caramel and coffee bean edges and is beautifully elegant. It has soft, elongated tannins, and concentrated violet and fern notes, that seem to float through the palate. This property is really st...

2014 Brown Rouge, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
91-93 points Vinous: "A dark, explosive wine, the 2014 Brown hits the palate with tons of intensity and breadth. Black fruit, smoke, mint, leather and tobacco wrap around the huge, structured finish in a wine that brings together intense fruit with an equally imposing sense of structure. Consulting winemaker Frédéric Massie continues to do impressive work at Brown, a historic estate in Pessac-Léognan that seems to be on the rise. There is a lot to like and look forward to. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. (AG)" (04/201...

2004 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A top-notch effort from proprietress Helene Garcin, Haut-Bergey’s 2004 exhibits an evolved, cedary, smoky, tobacco, and sweet cherry-scented bouquet offered in a medium-bodied, supple-textured style. (RP)" (06/2007) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Sexy, rather wild aromas of roasted raspberry and game. Supple but firm-edged, with good grip to the raspberry and mineral flavors. There's good fruit here but limited fat and a restrained sweetness. (ST)" (06/2007)

Coming from the same vineyards and the same careful cellar-work as Château Carbonnieux, the younger sibling Château Tour Leognan provides the young-vine version for earlier drinking pleasure, and is a joyful way to enjoy fresh Bordeaux while you wait for the big dogs to mature. The heralded 2015 vintage provides a little extra power here, and gives this bottling a bit more depth of seriousness.

90-93 points Wine Spectator: "This white delivers tangy fleur de sel, thyme, lemon and white asparagus notes, with good zing for the vintage. (JM, Web-2019)" 91 points Decanter: "This has grassy Sauvignon notes with juice running through it and clear sense of balance and grip. It's a good white wine, full of pleasure, not as soaring as the best vintages here, but still plenty to talk about. 25% new oak was used with integral fermentation. (JA)" (03/2019) 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Clos Floridene 2018 Blanc gives tropical scents o...

Wine Enthusiast: "Dark, dense and bold, this organic wine has the potential for richness as well as structure. The blackberry fruits are readying to come forward as the tannins soften. The wine should be ready from 2022. (RV)" (02/2019) K&L Notes: L’Avocat is from the small commune of Cerons, which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. 2010 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I certainly underrated the 2010 Pape Clement from barrel, rating it only 93-95+. (Thank God I put a 'plus' there!) Having tasted it four times in Bordeaux, and rating it perfect three times and 99 the fourth time, this final blend of 51% Merlot, 47.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1.5% Petit Verdot is perfection in a bottle. Tipping the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol, there are 8,000 cases of it. Its sublime elegance, the power, the medium to full-bodied texture, the silky tannins, the subtle notes of smoke, lead pen...

2017 Tour Leognan Blanc, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
Coming from the same vineyards and careful cellar-work as Château Carbonnieux, the younger sibling Château Tour Leognan provides early drinking pleasure. The Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. This is the second wine of Chateau Carbonnieux.
Price: $19.99

99 points James Suckling: "The currants and blackberries on the nose are very impressive with wet-earth and lavender undertones. Full body and super-integrated tannins that melt into the wine. The quality of the tannins is incredible with fantastic length and mouthfeel. So much concentration and balance at the same time. Such beauty. From biodynamic grapes. This is the greatest wine ever from here. Drink in 2022." (10/2019) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vintage is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% ...

93 points James Suckling: "Pronounced vanilla and full black cherries on the nose. Quite a generous, fleshy wine for this appellation in 2016. Rather soft tannins add a touch of warmth at the finish, balancing the cool acidity. Good length and harmony at the moderately dry finish. A blend of 70 per cent merlot and 30 per cent cabernet sauvignon." (02/2019) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The red 2016 Château Lespault-Martillac is also outstanding. Based on 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, from vines next to Domaine de Chevalier, this beauty boasts a medi...

93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Really delicious and intense Carbonnieux already with lemon-rind, green-apple and lime character. Medium body. Energetic finish." (04/2019) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Carbonnieux 2018 Blanc features intense lime juice, yuzu and green mango scents with touches of lemon curd and white pepper. Medium-bodied, very tightly wound and zesty in the mouth, it has a racy backbone and a mineral-laced finish. (LPB)" (04/2019) 91-92 points James Suckling: "The wine already has a delicious side that is both refr...

2018 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine that's going to flirt with perfection, the 2018 Château Haut-Bailly is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Each of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, brought up in 60% new French oak. Hitting 14.5% alcohol, its deep purple color is followed by a fabulous bouquet of pure crème de cassis, crushed violets, white flowers, graphite, and damp earth. An incredibly powerful, opulent wine, it nevertheless has sensational purity as well as the freshness and elegance that's the hallmark of this terrific estate. It ...

2016 Malartic-Lagravière, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "I love the deep and complex nose, in which the cassis and mint of Cabernet Sauvignon are beautifully married to the more generous blackberry of ripe Merlot and the vanilla and toasty notes from the oak are marvelously integrated. On the palate it creeps up on you slowly; the first impression is ripe yet delicate, then the fine-grained tannins charge through and light up the sky. Very long finish. Drink or hold." (02/2019) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "The Bonnie family’s estate has produced a richly structured wine, full of the...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dense tannins are balanced by equally rich fruit in this wine. It comes from vines around a medieval, moated castle on the edge of Bordeaux city. The wine is full of ripe, juicy blackberry flavors that circle of core of dryness. Both will allow the wine to age well. Drink from 2025. (RV)" (05/2019) 94 points Decanter: "This is generous, well judged and jam-packed with the luscious black fruits that 2016 specialises in. Beautifully juicy, the aromatics are very clean, with a deeply spicy side to the...

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Latour Martillac bursts from the glass with bold cassis, chocolate-covered cherries and plum preserves scents followed up by smoked meats, violets and aniseed hints plus a waft of Provence herbs. Full-bodied, firm and fine-grained in the mouth, the palate is laden with juicy fruit and savory layers, finishing long and fragrant. (LPB)" (04/2019) 92-95 points Wine Spectator: "Dark plum and boysenberry compote notes are fleshy in feel, infused with dark tea, ganache and lico...

96 points James Suckling: "Deeper wine from the get-go with dark violets, mocha, cassis and blackberries. The palate has suave, smooth and sturdy tannins and terrific length. Very polished and seamless with flavors of fresh black cherries, blackcurrants and blue plums. Best from 2022." (02/2018) 96 points Vinous: "The 2015 Malartic Lagravière is just as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich, voluptuous and dramatic, it captures all of the natural intensity of the year. Black cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, licorice and French oak build into ...

2009 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
100 points Decanter: "As it opens in the glass, this is absolutely gorgeous. You can see why this was the period where people stopped and said, 'hang on, what's going on at Haut Bailly?' It's silky and a touch subdued, clearly a serious wine, with seductive, fleshy cassis, bilberry, hedgerow and bramble fruits alongside notes of leather, pencil lead and crushed stones, perfectly balanced by tantalisingly reticent tannins and acidity. It's got to be one of the greatest Haut-Baillys on record, with its wonderful expression and great persistency. (JA)" (02/...
Price: $299.99

99 points James Suckling: "The clarity to this wine is impressive. Wealth of dark-plum and black-fruit essence not to mention orange citrus. Everything is dialed up to the limit here but then dialed in on the palate. Such impressive depth and suave, ripe, fluid tannins that deliver impressive length. Great wine. Such polish. Superb. Try from 2022." (02/2018) 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "As with the white, the 2015 Château Pape Clément is up at the top of the hierarchy and is a tour de force in Red Bordeaux that should be snatched up by readers. Coming from ...

98 points James Suckling: "Wonderful aromas of tobacco, sweet fruit and licorice follow through to a full body with ultra-fine tannins that caress every inch of your palate. Love the length and subtlety to this young wine. Gorgeous." (02/2019) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Haut-Bailly is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. The nose opens with beautiful floral notes of violets and lavender accented with earthy notions and sparks of crushed rocks over a core of kirsch, cassis and wild blueberries. Full-bodied, rich and seductive, ...

2010 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "Great aromas of crushed blackberries with flowers and stones that follow through to a full body, with super silky tannins and a long, long finish. It fills your mouth with beautiful fruit and velvety tannins yet shows tension and form. This lasts for minutes on the palate. Structured and superb. Don't touch until 2020." (11/2013) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep plum/purple, Haut-Bailly's 2010 required some coaxing to appreciate its subtle notes of barbecue smoke, lead pencil shavings and creme de cassis as well...
Price: $189.99

98 points James Suckling: "This is really powerful and structured with superb muscle and phenolic tension. Yet, it’s formed and polished, layered and dense. Full-bodied, but energetic and focused. Vibrant acidity. Goes on for minutes. Citrus, stone, straw, salt and chalk. Incredible." (01/2020) 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The grand vin, the 2017 Domaine De Chevalier Blanc is a more serious, concentrated, medium to full-bodied effort that has awesome notes of crushed citrus, white peach, lemon zest, and obvious minerality. With a touch of background oak, a ...

96-98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The grand vin is the 2018 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc, which is mostly Sauvignon Blanc with 5% each of Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris, that’s being brought up in 50% new French oak. Deeper, richer, yet still racy and vibrant, it has gorgeous notes of tart pineapple, crushed citrus, salty minerality, and white flowers. Rich, concentrated, medium to full-bodied, it's unquestionably one of the whites of the vintage." (05/2019) 97-98 points James Suckling: "This is very dense and deep with glorious fruit and a creamy textured, ...

94 points James Suckling: "Attractive, earthy and cedary aromas across ripe, mixed berries, leading to a deep-set palate with succulent and approachable tannins that deliver a very long, succulent and flavorful finish. Holds bright, fresh and long. Second wine of Château La Mission-Haut-Brion. " (02/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is blended of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot and 21.5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it absolutely sings of red roses, black tea and ...

92-93 points James Suckling: "I love the mid-palate to this young and attractive red, with silky tannins and alluring mineral, berry and stone character. Enchanting." (04/2011) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is an austere, structured wine. Its tannic framework currently dominates, giving the impression of a firm wine. It feels like classic Bordeaux, upright and dense. This makes for a wine that will need several years' aging." (05/2013) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, but supple along the edges, offering a packed core of cassis, blackberry and bl...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the wines of the vintage, the 2000 has barely budged in its evolution since it was bottled and released in 2002. After ten years in bottle, it still reveals a dense opaque purple color along with a potentially sensational bouquet of blueberries, black currants, graphite, asphalt and background oak. Extremely powerful, full-bodied and superbly concentrated with good acidity and high but round tannins, this massive La Mission-Haut-Brion should take its place among this estate’s most hallowed vintages when i...

2018 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
97-98 points James Suckling: "This is a very driven Pape Clément with fantastic density and finesse at the same time. Linear and driven, the finish goes on for minutes with incredible tension and focus. More cabernet. Refinement with power." (04/2019) 96-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc to be aged for approximately 18 months in oak barriques, 60% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Pape Clement is a little closed, slowly unfurling to reveal fragrant earth, c...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1996 Domaine de Chevalier certainly surpassed my expectations even though I would caution that I think Olivier Bernard has made better vintages since then. Deep in color, the nose is quite captivating with black fruit, brine and crushed stone. I like the strictness here -- very 1996 in style. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a svelte texture. The bead of acidity lends this tension although I found that finish surprisingly backward and just lacked that peacock's tail that would hav...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Dark chocolate, with meat, fresh mushroom and a light espresso undertone. Full-bodied, with ultrarefined tannins and a meaty, berry, earth and spice undertone, even game. Rich and generous. What a surprise. Much better than I remember. (JS, Web-2009)" 90 points Vinous: "The 1988 Haut Bailly, which Véronique Sanders told me was the first year that there was a green harvest, was picked from 27 September until 21 October. Apparently they achieved rich tannins that were unprecedented. At thirty years old it has a pretty, minty, sl...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Continuing to show brilliantly, the 2012 La Mission Haut-Brion is a quintessential Graves, boasting a deep purple color as well as heavenly aromatics of blackcurrants, tobacco, scorched earth, graphite, and licorice. It’s a big, full-bodied beauty yet has a weightless, elegant style, building tannins, and a great finish. It needs a solid hour in a decanter if drinking today and promises to evolve beautifully for another 3-4 decades." (11/2019) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As for the 2012 La Mission Haut Brion, this ...

94 points James Suckling: "This is really excellent with straw, cooked apples and hints of peaches. Full-bodied, layered and tight with a beautiful center palate of fruit and freshness. Tight now. Great acidity. " (01/2020) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine shines with bright green-plum and herbal flavors. Fruitiness is balanced by a texture that hints at ripeness and richness. Lightly spicy from wood aging, the wine has both a crisp texture and freshness at the end. (RV)" (01/2020) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the Les...

93-94 points James Suckling: "This shows beautiful density and layers for a baby white with cooked apples, pears and hints of yogurt. Full-bodied, fresh and bright. " (04/2018) 93 points Decanter: "This is an exceptionally good Clarté, a second wine to buy this year if you possibly can, underlining just what exceptional whites have been produced at the Haut-Brion stable in 2017. It has lovely aromatics, with persistent flavours of exotic stone fruit, white flowers, soft rosemary and slatey minerality. It's generous without losing focus. Just 7% of prod...

96-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc with 5% Sauvignon Gris and 5% Sémillon, the Smith Haut Lafitte 2017 Blanc offers up gorgeous, super-intense scents of pink grapefruit, white peaches, kumquats and ginger with wafts of under-ripe pineapple, lime blossoms and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, it's very polished, sophisticated and wonderfully electric in the mouth, with sparks of citrus fruits, tropical notions and floral perfume exploding on the palate, finishing with epic persistence. 2016 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "Stunning black fruit with plenty of forest berries in there, the whole picture cool and very delicate, also on the concentrated and highly structured palate. The tannins are very fine-grained, but decisively austere and, together with the vibrant acidity, they propel the finish out towards infinity and leave a breathtaking final impression. A blend of 56 per cent merlot, 37.5 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 6.5 per cent cabernet franc. Very long aging potential, but you could try it in 2023." (02/2019) 100 points Robert Park...

98 points James Suckling: "Stunning concentration of perfectly ripe blackcurrants here with a delicate whiff of vanilla oak and extremely fine tannins that are almost perfectly integrated on the seductive and delicate palate, right through the almost literally breathtaking, super-long and very polished finish. Try from 2022." (02/2019) 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasted on two separate occasions, the 2016 Château Pape Clément never failed to disappoint, offering a huge, powerful, full-bodied personality as well as beautiful notes of cassis, graphite, high-...

91 points Decanter: "The Leveque family has had a tough few years with low yields. Winemaker Aude Dupuy has produced a well balanced 2018. It's a little subdued right now, although there's clearly lots of dark brambly fruit and good structure. It feels poised and well made. I tasted this a few times and it always impressed. 50% new oak. HVE3 certified. Hubert de Bouard consults. (JA)" (03/2019) 9-91 points James Suckling: "A straightforward young red with dark-berry, chocolate and walnut character. Medium body, firm tannins and a savory finish. " (04/2...

96 points James Suckling: "Beautiful spice, tobacco, wet earth and blackcurrants with some raspberries. Aromatic and complex. Full-bodied, refined and layered with wonderful length and power. Yet, there’s always class and pretty length here. Seamless. " (01/2020) 96 points Vinous: "The 2017 Pape Clément is outrageously beautiful. Rich, deep and luscious on the palate, the 2017 possesses tremendous energy and richness from start to finish. Sweet red cherry, red plum, blood orange, spice and herb notes abound in an unctuous, racy wine of the highest leve...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Haut Brion is a perfect wine that couldn’t be any better and is certainly at the top of this great vintage. A blend of 50% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc, this full-bodied, concentrated, backward, yet sensationally pure 2015 boast knockout notes of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, ground herbs, and graphite, with a terrific damp earth/minerality quality emerging with time in the glass. Straight, focused, and built like a skyscraper, with a stacked mid-palate, forget bottles for 7-8 years and...

99 points Vinous: "The 2016 La Mission Haut-Brion was stunning from barrel, and now in bottle. It has a sublime bouquet of blackberries, briar and hints of dark chocolate and rose petals that gain intensity with aeration while maintaining ethereal delineation. It never steps on the accelerator too hard. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is still a veneer of new oak that will need to be assimilated over the coming years. This is a deep La Mission that caresses the mouth. Touches of graphite lingering on a finish that fans out gloriously....

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is already showing exceptionally well, even though it is not close to its plateau of maturity. The deep ruby/purple color is followed by scents of roasted herbs intermixed with sweet black currant fruit, truffles, vanillin, and minerals. Lush, with ripe cassis fruit on the attack, outstanding balance, medium body, and layers of intensity, this is an elegant, graceful, smoothly textured, beautifully made Bordeaux. A blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, Pape Clement’s 2005 has an opaque purple color and smoky barbecue and chocolaty notes intermixed with cassis and blackberries. There is also some underlying minerality in this full-bodied, super-concentrated wine, which has wonderfully sweet, well-integrated tannins.
