2018 Montmassot Picpoul de Pinet

The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things, oysters and this wine of origin Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul we ask each other if it "pics your poul?" We want to know if it has the vibrancy and minerality that are the hallmarks of the region. That brings us to the Montmassot, which is produced at the local cooperative in the village of Florensac. It is s ...

2017 Domaine Dugois Ploussard "La Sombarde" Arbois Rouge

Ploussard/Poulsard is a red-skinned French grape variety that is a specialty of Arbois in northern Jura. Thin skins and pale coloring are the most obvious traits of Poulsard, while the delicate perfumes are what will be surprising. This is a wine of great finesse! Winery note: "The color is ruby ??with sometimes orange highlights. A light, fruity and light wine, with aromas of strawberry and raspberry, smoked, sweet spice. Balanced and fruity mouth with a beautiful aromatic expression."

2016 d'Arce, Côtes de Castillon

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Showing a beautiful limestone minerality and focus, the 2016 Château d'Arce offers a terrific perfume of savory red and black fruits, dried herbs, flowers, and loamy soil. With medium to full body, notable tannins, and terrific purity, it has rock solid depth and richness on the palate and is going to benefit from short term cellaring but keep for a decade. The blend is 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and this cuvée comes from the upper limestone plateau in the Castillon region." (02/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "Very ...

Fallet-Dart "Grande Sélection" Brut Champagne (1.5L)

Wine Spectator: "A firm, elegant style, this reveals floral, dough and candied berry notes. Harmonious, ending with a refreshing crispness. (BS)" (12/2006) K&L Notes: This all-estate Champagne is aged for six years on the lees and is composed of 70% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. This wine has very fine, brioche like aromas from the long sur lie aging as well as a savory cherry note from the high-quality Pinot. It is very rich and long in the mouth, with a fine bead, again from long aging.

2016 Laventura Tempranillo Rioja

Jancis Robinson: "Mainly Tempranillo from Rioja Alavesa with 20% Garnacha from Rioja Alta. 60-year-old vines. Open vat fermentation with punching down. Aged in 500- and 600-litre oak barrels. Very complex and open nose, slightly natural scent showing dried herbs, spices, earthiness and a leathery touch. It is soft and delicate on the palate with light clay-textured tannins. It has a burgundian style and is very good quality. (FC) " (02/2017) K&L Notes: Native South African Bryan MacRobert grew up in a farming family, and has been quietly making some o ...

2016 Domaine du Petit Coteau Vouvray Sec

All the wines at this beautiful little organic domaine are made from 100% Chenin Blanc but vary in degrees of sweetness depending on where the grapes are harvested from. Planted in the sandy clay soils over tuffeau (that magical chalky soil of the Loire), these wines show the range of the quality that can be found in Vouvray for a mere pittance.

2013 Pierre Paillard "Les Maillerettes" Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Noirs Champagne

This powerful Pinot Noir Champagne comes from a less than 1/2 acre parcel in the grand cru of Bouzy planted in 1970 called Les Maillerettes. These old Pinot vines are the source for the massal selections used by the Paillard family for the rest of their plantations. This bottling, which will cellar for a very long time, also shows quite well right now. While I would not recommend this as a party bottle, graduates of Champagne will find one of the best expressions of real Pinot in this majestic wine. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

Alain Corcia founded his negociant company back in 1983. Originally focused on bottling Burgundy, they expanded their grower relationships to include wines from the Rhone, Bordeaux and even Champagne. Our relationship with Alain goes back over three decades and he and his wife Patricia have supplied us with some of our greatest values from their respective regions. 2018 Domaine de Fondrèche Ventoux Blanc

This wine summarizes the philosophy of the estate, 20 years of work and restructuring of the vineyard. Striving for harmony, the winery maintains the health of the soil and grapes, growing them in the best ecological way possible. That means, no chemical fertilizers, using "green manure" (i.e. legumes), and respecting the lunar calendar which influences all of their interactions on the plant to strengthen the natural defenses of the vine. Winery note: "An expressive nose of white flowers, peach, grapefruit. A citrus tonic palate where minerality and sali ...

2017 Laventura Viura Rioja

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There was uneven ripeness in the grapes for the 2017 Laventura Viura, because some bunches were from the second flowering after the frost and didn't ripen the same as the grapes that survived the frost. There was not enough juice to fill the 2,500-liter oak vat, so it had to be fermented in a concrete egg and one 500-liter oak barrel. After the frost, the year was warm and dry, and the wine is not as expressive as the 2016 I tasted next to it. The palate is soft, and there is less freshness and vibrancy than in 2 ...

2018 Domaine Begude Sauvignon Blanc Pays d'Oc

Domaine Begude is a small, family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. The long, cool growing season lends itself perfectly to the production of crisp and delicate wines, and this Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. More in the style of a Loire Valley Sancerre, with its fine, mineral-laden nose and fresh citrus fruits on the palate, this is the perfect accompaniment to grilled fish, oysters or just by itself. Drink it just after opening and you’ll think it’s a bit of a refined old lady, rich, toasty and oaky, but starting to fray at the edges, the weave of its light tannins and firm acidity a little loose.
