Joël Taluau was a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire. All his hand harvested cuvées are based on vine age and soil composition, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with a light fining and no filtration before bottling.

Now at 30 years old, a floral aspect curls out of the glass, with touches of roses and peonies, followed on the palate by bilberries and blackberries, with a cigar smoke and eucalyptus finish. It's still vigorous in its tannic structure, but it's soft and supple enough to enjoy today. Clive Coates sings its praises in the Wines of Bordeaux: "The vineyard, in the process of being enlarged, lies on the Grand Poujeaux plateau. The estate, which has belonged to the same family for 150 years, is run on biological lines, the wine being matured in one-third new oak.
