1985 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut vintage for this wine was especially impressive in view of the fact that the vineyard was so young. The 1985 La Turque's color remains a dark purple, with no signs of amber or lightening. The nose explodes from the glass, revealing scents of jammy black fruits, licorice, lead pencil, and smoke. Sweet, thick, highly concentrated flavors contain enough acidity and soft wood tannin to give the wine a well-focused feel. This prodigiously endowed, rich wine should continue to evolve. 2015 Remi Niero "Eminance" Côte-Rôtie (Elsewhere $90)

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie Eminence from Niero is another brilliant 2015 that should be snatched up by readers. A blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier sourced from the Valliere and Coteau de Bassenon lieux-dits, aged in 20% new oak, it has a beautiful perfume of black raspberries, dried flowers, incense, and cured meats. Medium to full-bodied and seamless on the palate, it has an elegant, pure, yet concentrated style that’s going to continue evolving gracefully for 15 years or more." 1995 E. Guigal "Château d'Ampuis" Côte-Rôtie

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the treats when tasting through the profound Côte Rôties made by Marcel Guigal was the opportunity to taste all of the bottled 1995's. Reviewed in previous issues, they are even better from bottle than they were during their upbringing (a characteristic of many Guigal wines). The 1995 Côte Rôtie Château d'Ampuis is the stuff of legends and is every bit as compelling as readers might expect. This single vineyard wine will have at least 15 years of longevity.(RMP)" (10/1999) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's Inte ...

2016 Maryline et Christophe Billon "Les Elotins" Côte-Rôtie

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Brilliant stuff, Billon's 2016 Côte Rôtie Les Elotins is a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier that spent 22 months in once- and twice-used barrels. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it has more depth and richness than most in this classic, charming vintage. Saturated purple-colored, with terrific notes of cassis, blackberries, scorched earth, violets, and graphite, it hits the palate with a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, good acidity, and present yet sweet tannins, all of which give it a classic feel. Drink this balance ...

1989 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie

Robert Parker writes: "Chapoutier's aim is to produce an exceptionally perfumed, soft, elegant cuvee of Cote Rotie, and a luxury cuvee that takes Cote Rotie's black-raspberry, exotic fruitiness and elegance to the limits of intensity, a la Marcel Guigal's La Mouline."

1990 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The saturated dark ruby/purple color is followed by an awesome nose that offers copious quantities of sweet black fruits, flowers, toasty new oak, and smoky bacon fat. In the mouth there is superb concentration, a sweet, expansive texture, and a mind-boggling, long finish. This lavishly rich Cote Rotie, which is already delicious, is capable of lasting for 10-15 years. (RP)" (12/1996) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A muscular wine that still achieves great elegance, with restrained ripe plum, tobacco and tar flavor ...

1998 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Cote Rotie La Turque may end up being a perfect wine. Its smoky black fruits intermixed with licorice, roasted meats, cassis, and flowers create an explosive, exotic perfume. The wine reveals considerable tannin, immense structure, and potentially legendary depth as well as intensity. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2022. (RP)" (04/2002) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium ruby. Griotte cherry, roasted herbs, pepper and brown spices on the nose. Tightly wound but also quite ...

2016 Maryline et Christophe Billon "La Brocarde" Côte-Rôtie

94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Similarly colored, the purple-hued 2016 Côte Rôtie La Brocarde incorporates 5% Viognier and comes from the La Brocarde lieu-dit and will see 26 months in new barrels. It offers more blue fruits, violets, and liquid rock characteristics, full body, a deep, stacked mid-palate, and building tannins. It's a primordial barrel sample that's going to require 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years." (12/2018) 94 points Vinous: "Vivid purple. Intense blackberry, cherry preserve, licorice pastille, bacon and vanilla scents ar ...

2016 Rene Rostaing "Ampodium" Côte-Rôtie

94 points Wine Spectator: "This is very solidly built, nearly bristling with briary energy along the edges while the core of steeped plum, cherry and currant fruit cruises through. Mouthwatering savory, tobacco and olive notes score the finish, all set against a lovely floral accent in the background. (JM)" (02/2019) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the 2016s and starting with the 2016 Côte Rôtie Ampodium, this beautiful, silky, incredibly elegant wine has classic notes of red and black fruits, spring flowers, hints of bacon fat as well as green olive ...

2016 Maryline et Christophe Billon "Côte Rozier" Côte-Rôtie

94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Not yet bottled, the 2016 Côte Rôtie La Côte Rozier (97% Syrah and 3% Viognier) sports a saturated purple color as well as rocking notes of crème de cassis, graphite, crushed rocks, and liquid violets. It's rich, full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated, with building tannins and beautiful purity. It's a powerhouse that needs 2-4 years of bottle age and will keep for 2+ decades." (12/2018) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Billon's full-bodied 2016 Côte Rôtie Côte Rozier is still in barrels (50% new). Made using 30% ...

Top Pick!
2016 Delas Freres "La Landonne" Côte-Rôtie (Previously $190)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Alluring, with warm fruitcake and black tea aromatics leading off for a lush and warm core of crushed plum, cherry reduction and blackberry pâte de fruit flavors. Despite the showy fruit detail, there’s a solid iron underpinning, pretty floral notes and bright energy throughout. (JM)" (04/2019) 95 points Decanter: "The first vintage of this wine was in 1997. It has resonant Côte-Rôtie aromatics; sylvan, resinous, and more vinous than many. It is medium to full-bodied, with generous, concentrated, sweetly-ripe fruit, very fin ...

2016 Clos de la Bonnette "Cuvée Prenelle" Côte-Rôtie (Previously $70)

Domaine Clos de la Bonnette was purchased in 1992 by wife and husband team, Isabelle Guiller and Henri Montabonnet. Isabelle had her eye on this abandoned vineyard site for many years before they moved forward. The main reason that the site remained unoccupied was because the hillsides were in complete disarray, as many of the stone retaining walls had collapsed over the decades due to neglect. Restoring this property could only be done as a labor of love, not a commercial venture. Isabelle and Henri did most of the restoration themselves, rebuilding the ...

2015 E. Guigal "La Mouline" Côte-Rôtie

98-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "On another level, and unquestionably the best of the three vintages, the 2015 Côte Rôtie La Mouline sports an inky purple color as well as an off-the-charts bouquet of black currants, smoked herbs, spring flowers, gamey meats, and acacia flowers. Massively concentrated, opulent, and as sexy as wine gets, it reminds me of the 1978 La Mouline and has perfection written all over it. If you can afford it, this is a magical, legendary wine in the making that will keep for 4-5 decades." (12/2018) 99 points James Suckling: "A very ...

2015 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie

97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie La Turque (93% Syrah and 7% Viognier) is straight-up thrilling stuff and offers a massive, full-bodied style that stays seamless, incredibly elegant, and perfectly balanced. It doesn’t have the sheer weight or exotic quality of the La Mouline, yet gives up textbook crème de cassis, crushed rocks, violets, and graphite aromas and flavors. With fine tannins and a stacked mid-palate, it’s going to require 5-7 years of bottle age." (12/2018) 98-100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The potentially perfec ...

2017 Saint Cosme Côte-Rôtie

95 points James Suckling: "This comes from the schist section, in the north of the appellation, and has a very complex and spicy edge to the dark berries and cherries. The palate has a succulent, savory and very powerful, expressive feel with latent spices and roasted meat, through a very intense core of black fruits. Ripe grapes and whole bunches here. Intense and juicy with strapping tannins. Drink over the next decade or more." (10/2019) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Notes of smoked meat and cold fireplace mark the nose of Saint Cosme ...
