2016 Elio Grasso "Ginestra Casa Mate" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
Top Pick!
97 points Vinous: "Ample and creamy on the palate, with tremendous depth, the 2016 Barolo Ginestra Casa Matè is super impressive, even in the early going. Next to the Gavarini Chiniera, the Ginestra Casa Matè is a Barolo of textural resonance and volume. Black cherry, plum and a range of balsamic notes infuse the 2016 with tons of character. The is one of the real standouts of the year. (AG)" (02/2020) 96 points James Suckling: "Complex aromas of figs, ripe strawberries and fresh mushrooms. Full body, firm and tight tannins with a solid core of fruit ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Barolo Riva del Bric shows a high degree of floral intensity with pressed violets and rose followed by bright red fruit and distant spice. The maceration period is relatively brief (15 days) and this has helped to fix the wine’s intensity, both in terms of its appearance and its bouquet. Vinification includes three years in botte grande. Mineral nuances and fresh acidity characterize the finish. (ML)" (06/2014) 92 points Vinous: "Firm veins of tannin run through the 2010 Barolo Riva del Bric. Pine, min...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Barolo Ludo is the most accessible offering in the Poderi Luigi Einaudi portfolio, and this is absolutely intentional. Fruit is sourced from all the estate's major vineyard sites (the youngest vines), including Cannubi, Terlo and Bussia. The so-called Terrazza parcel that they farm in Cannubi was put into this wine instead of the single-vineyard expression. Ludo has a shorter maceration than the other wines (at 18 to 20 days). This vintage is healthy, dark and exuberant with a full and generous set of ar...

2016 Elio Grasso "Gavarini Chiniera" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
Top Pick!
96 points Vinous: "The 2016 Barolo Gavarini Chiniera is a vibrant, massively tannic, austere wine, the likes of which I have never tasted here before. Vertical and explosive in the glass with tons of pure power, the 2016 Gavarini Chiniera is a gorgeous Barolo that is going to need a number of years to be at its best. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of sweet red cherry fruit. White pepper, mint, orange peel and floral notes develop a bit later, but the 2016 remains reticent and inward, with brilliant acids and tannins that dominate today. The 2016 is ...

2015 Renato Ratti "Marcenasco" Barolo
Back In Stock!
95 points Wine Spectator: "A deep well of macerated cherry, plum, freshly cut grass, white pepper and tar flavors highlights this dense, muscular red. Quickly goes from enticing to closed down as the beefy tannins ply the finish. All the components are there. Best from 2022 through 2043. *Top 100 Wines of 2019* (BS)" (12/2019) 92 points James Suckling: "A pure, subtle Barolo 2016, showing poached strawberries, red-apple tart, rose-water and dried cloves. Medium-bodied and tight with fine tannins, steely acidity and a medium-chewy finish." (09/2019) 9...

2016 Vietti "Ravera" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Vinous: "The 2016 Barolo Ravera is bursting with all of the tension that is the most singular characteristic of this site. Freshly cut flowers, white pepper and mint lend energy to a wine that is very shy and tightly wound today. Then again, it is Ravera. Macerated dark cherry, lavender, mint, crushed rocks and sage race out of the glass in a potent, stunning Barolo endowed with magnificent purity and translucency. The 2016 is quite simply a stunning, breathtaking wine. Don't miss it. (AG)" (02/2020)
Price: $299.99

94 points James Suckling: "Love the generosity in this wine for this muscular vintage with plenty of fruit to buttress the powerful tannins. Full and chewy yet succulent and fruity. Drink in 2022. " (01/2019) Vinous: "The 2015 Barolo from Cascina Bongiovanni is bright, floral and nicely lifted, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. All the elements are nicely balanced. This is an especially silky, fruity, soft Barolo. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later. (AG)" (02/2019)

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Underbrush, rose, violet, black cherry, balsamic notes, cinnamon, mint, leather and Mediterranean herbs are just some of the sensations that emerge. The juicy fruit is balanced with energy and velvety tannins. It's loaded with energy and finesse, and give it time to develop even more complexity. Drink 2020-2040. *Cellar Selection* (KO)" (10/2014) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is smoky, with tobacco- and mineral-tinged cherry and strawberry flavors. Quickly gives way to firm, mouthcoating tannins, yet finds equilibrium over...

95 points James Suckling: "Extremely complex and intense aromas of sliced meat, flowers and ripe fruit, but perfumed at the same time. Full-bodied, very chewy and powerful with a long and flavorful finish. Needs four or five years to soften. Try in 2023. " (01/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Barolo is a nicely balanced and fresh offering from Parusso, with sensations of dark plum and ripe fruit. This wine, aged for 18 months in barrique, always seem to distinguish itself in every vintage by the ripe fruit or grape-skin aromas t...

96 points James Suckling: "Exotic aromas of berries, grapefruit, dried flowers and cedar. Full body and very intense tannins that are integrated and polished. Beautiful, flavorful finish. Give it time. Try in 2023. " (01/2019) 94 points Vinous: "The 2015 Barolo Mosconi is a dark, potent wine. Black cherry, chocolate, leather, smokeblood orange and licorice add to the wine's virile personality. A big, ample Barolo, the 2015 shows all the natural richness of this Monforte site, where the wines tend to be quite broad in feel. Readers should be prepared to...

2016 E. Pira Chiara Boschis "Via Nuova" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Vinous: "In my opinion, the 2016 Barolo Via Nuova is the single greatest Barolo Chiara Boschis has made in her storied career. A monumental, thrilling wine, the Via Nuova captures all the best the vintage had to give. Explosive in the glass, with stunning aromatic depth, the 2016 is drop-dead gorgeous from the very first taste. Dark macerated cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and rose petal are kicked up a few notches from underlying veins of acidity and tannin that give the wine its energy and drive. The 2016 is a wine of extraordinary harmony...

2015 E. Pira Chiara Boschis "Via Nuova" Barolo
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "This delivers a fresh and vibrant impression on the nose with ripe red cherries and a deep-set, rose perfume. The palate has impressive power and focus with chiseled, driving tannins that cut a straight line of pure, red and black-cherry flavor. Long and assertive in 2015. Try this from 2023." (01/2019) 94 points Vinous: "Once again, the 2015 Barolo Via Nuova shows why the blending of several sites was the approach favored by Barolo producers until the 1960s, when the fascination for single-vineyard wines started to take off....

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Hailing from a single vineyard that has slightly sandier soils than the estate's other sites, this lovely wine boasts structure, elegance and a fragrance of rose petal, wildflower, menthol and perfumed berry. On the precise palate, white pepper and star anise accent a core of wild cherry and crushed raspberry. It's balanced, with firm, refined tannins and fresh acidity. Drink 2023–2035. (KO)" (10/2019) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Offers a gorgeous expression of cherry, strawberry and plum fruit, shaded by tobacco, eucalyptus ...

97 points James Suckling: "Aromatic depth here, drawing you in with cascading layers of flowers and leaves, fresh-tilled earth laced with woody spices, white pepper and fresh red fruit. The palate carries a very sturdy frame of fine, dense tannins. This is placed in the top league of 2015 Barolo wines. Long and succulent build through the finish. Try from 2024." (01/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "All of the wines from Chiara Boschis are more vinous this year, more natural. They feel authentic, genuine and traditional. They show an extr...

The Conternos have owned the land in the heart of the Langhe in the hamlet of Bussia di Monforte d’Alba since the mid 1800s. Now in the family winery's 4th generation, Franco’s two sons, Daniele and Andrea, run the company following in the footsteps of their grandfather. They and their team bring fresh insight and innovation to the winery and vineyards and continue the family business with passion and dedication. They farm 18 hectares of land which is approximately 44 acres and their most recent development is the movement to organic farming which began ...

95 points James Suckling: "Dark-berry, spice and dried-flower aromas that follow through to a full body, tight and integrated tannins and a long and vivid finish. Very compact and polished. One of the best Parussi I have tasted from here." (01/2019) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Focused and elegant, this red features a pure cherry center, accented by tar, spice, tobacco and iron flavors. It firms up on the finish, yet all the components are in the right place for a long future. (BS)" (12/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Barolo Pa...

The palate has a deliciously juicy core of fresh red cherry and berry flavor and smooth, firm and sturdy tannins. Drink or hold." (06/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In increasing order of intensity and structure, we tasted Poderi Luigi Einaudi's Baroli from Cannubi, Costa Grimaldi (Terlo) and Bussia. This estate will soon add a new Barolo from the Monvigliero cru in Verduno, and that wine wil...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Given the poise and complexity, it's hard to believe this is the firm's entry-level Barolo. It opens with alluring aromas of wild berry, forest floor, new leather, menthol and purple flower while the full-bodied palate delivers crushed raspberry, morello cherry, mint and star anise. Firm refined tannins and bright acidity give it a structured finesse as well as balance. (KO)" (09/2017) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Barolo by Brovia is made with a blend of fruit from the estate's various single vineyards....

"A visit to Flavio Roddolo is a visit to the largely unexplored world of understatement," Monica Larner writes in the Wine Advocate. "Everything about these premises is permeated by a particularly Piedmontese form of the unassuming. Flavio Roddolo is a soft-spoken man who seems perennially surprised by the attention and high praise that his wines have deservedly garnished over the years. … Despite the deadpan understatement and the simplicity of these surroundings, Flavio Roddolo remains the great artisan of Barolo. He is the last vestige of a bygone era...

Pronounced key-knot-o. To begin with, this specialized wine product will not appeal to every wine drinker out there. But for those of us with mature palates, and for those who appreciate the natural flavoring agent that gives tonic water its distinctive bite (quinine), a glass of Cocchi's Barolo Chinato is not a vinous experience you're likely to soon forget! In addition to quinine bark, there's rhubarb, gentian, and a final addition of somewhat secreted spices including cardamom seed. This is a pleasantly bitter tipple which ranks up there with Fernet B...

94 points James Suckling: "There’s a wealth of ripe and rich fruit here that makes a convincing impression on the nose with red to darker cherries, plums and an array of fresh leaves and herbs. The palate has seamless, finely grained tannins that carry a smooth array of fresh and juicy red-cherry flavor. Really holds the finish well. " (06/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Compared to the Cannubi cru, the 2015 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is much more structured and rich. At 45 years old, these are the estate's oldest vines at work (...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "From one of the most celebrated vineyards in the denomination, this stunning red opens with enticing scents of rose, camphor, aromatic herbs and a whiff of sandalwood. The succulent, elegant palate delivers juicy Marasca cherry, crushed pomegranate, licorice and sweet tobacco framed by taut, polished tannins. It’s nicely balanced by fresh acidity. 2015 Luciano Sandrone "Le Vigne" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "A tight and focused Le Vigne with strawberry, orange-peel and floral aromas and hints of hazelnuts. Not giving it all now. Full-bodied, very intense and focused. Extremely long and polished, tannic finish. Drink in 2023 or onwards." (01/2019) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe black-skinned berry, pipe tobacco, ground clove and star anise lead the way on this full-bodied red. The smooth, tightly knit palate offers succulent black cherry, cranberry compote, coconut and espresso alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. A licorice no...

94 points Vinous: "Rose petals, tar, licorice and bright red stone fruits lift from the glass in the 2010 Barolo Prapò. This is an especially floral Prapò. Here, too, the structure is implied rather than overly stated. Hints of licorice, tobacco, orange peel, star anise and smoke add complexity on the mid-weight, super-classic finish. This is an utterly exquisite, polished, totally beguiling Barolo from Sergio Germano. The Prapò was aged in 20 and 25 hectoliter casks. (AG)" (09/2014)

95 points Vinous: "A dark, powerful Barolo, 2013 Brunate is another wine that is built for the cellar. The brooding, mysterious side of Brunate comes through in a dense, muscular Barolo built on structure and acidity. Traditionally leaning palates will adore the 2013 Brunate. A host of balsamic-inflected notes lead into the firm, unyielding finish, adding to the wine's gravitas and seriousness. This is an especially somber, powerful wine, even by Brunate standards. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barolo Cannubbio exhibits all of the classic notes typically found in wines from this site. Sweet, open floral notes lead to tobacco, leather, anise and spices as this gorgeous Barolo shows off its class. There is more than enough fruit to balance the tannins, but the 2008 remains tight and in need of further cellaring. Still, there is so much to admire in this classy, mid-weight Barolo. In 2008, the Cannubbio is all class and finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. (AG)" (10/2012) Jancis Robinson: "...

Greatness. Drink in 2023." (01/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Morra is generally known for slightly more accessible expressions, and this is the case with the beautifully velvety and rich 2015 Barolo Gattera that shows so well straight out of the gate. Fruit for this wine is sourced from two positions on either side of the landmark cedar o...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva was released in January of 2019, and once again it looks to be a top prize. Licorice and flowers dominate the bouquet, and its beautiful red fruit is generous throughout. This wine has always been a beauty and consistently has had a high price tag to reflect that quality, going back to the first vintages of the 1990s. It has regularly sold for about $200 every year for the last decade. These vines are old, some of them very old (reaching the ripe age of 60 years old ...

96 points James Suckling: "Perfumed and very bright with dried flowers, dark berries and a sandalwood undertone. Full body, integrated tannins and a soft and polished finish. Very pretty and structured. Harmonious. Measured. " (11/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Barolo Bussia Cicala is like a little steam train that keeps pushing forward. The wine shows the forward momentum and power of the vintage, imparting ripe and rich primary intensity along the way. This steady and elegant expression of Nebbiolo reveals dried blackberry, ...

2015 Luciano Sandrone "Aleste" (formerly "Cannubi Boschis") Barolo (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Woodland berry, iris, menthol and star anise aromas slowly take shape on this elegantly structured, savory red. Enveloping and delicious, the focused palate delivers raspberry compote, dried black cherry, licorice and cinnamon alongside polished, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity lends tension and keeps it balanced. (KO)" (10/2019) 96 points Vinous: "Sandrone's 2015 Barolo Aleste is a total stunner. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Paolo Scavino "Bric del Fiasc" Barolo (94WS, 93ST, 92RP). Wine Spectator: "Dark ruby color, with some garnet undertones. The nose shows ripe plum, as well as green coffee bean character. Full-bodied, with very soft and round tannins and ripe fruit. Turns to coffee, sweet tobacco and berries on the finish. Give it another couple years to mellow. 1998 Piedmont blind retrospective. (Web-2008)"
Starting Bid: $225.00

96 points Vinous: "The 2014 Barolo Le Vigne once again shows the wisdom of blending fruit from different sites. If there is a vintage where blending has the potential to be the difference-maker, 2014 is it. So it is hardly surprising to find the 2014 Le Vigne in such great shape. The red cherry jam, mint, cedar and floral notes are all finely sketched. Medium in body and classy, the 2014 is beautifully textured and inviting from start to finish. All the elements are simply in the right place. Vineyard sources are Merli, Vignane, Villero and Baudana. (AG)...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Offering power and a deep, penetrating style, the 2015 Barolo Prapò is a wine with a steady center of gravity. That tight inner core of fruit is typical of this vineyard site and of the Serralunga d'Alba subzone in general. Notes of dark fruit and dried blackberry are followed by spice, cured leather and dark licorice. This is the Barolo you want for a grilled T-bone steak. (ML)" (06/2019) 93 points James Suckling: "Delightfully fragrant aromas with vanilla-dusted roses and red cherries that lead to a palate th...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Barolo Sperss is another smoking good 2015 that shows the sunny warmth of the vintage in its massive bouquet of blackcurrants, kirsch liqueur, red plums, Asian spices, violets, and flowery incense. It reminds me of the incredible 1997, and Barolo doesn't get any more sexy or opulent. This brilliant, full-bodied wine has ripe, velvety tannins, beautiful depth of fruit, and a great finish. It needs a solid hour in a decanter if drinking any time soon and will benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age." (11/2019) 98 points Vin...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Barolo Arborina shows a strong fruit profile with cherry and cassis that sets it apart from the 2009 vintage that is extremely generous in floral tones of crushed flower and rose. This expression shows great power and substance with 20 to 30% new oak. This is a precise and sharp wine with a heightened sense of focus and definition that is backed by pretty mineral shadings. Hold this wine ten years or more. Drink: 2017-2035. (ML) 96+" (06/2014) 95 points Vinous: "Altare's 2010 Barolo Arborina bristles o...

98 points Vinous: "The 2015 Barolo Francia is a soaring, regal wine endowed with tremendous intensity in all of its dimensions. The most reticent and inward of the 2015s, the Francia possesses superb textural density and persistence all the way through to the explosive finish. An immense, towering Barolo, the Francia is positively stellar. It is also going to require a number of years to be at its best. In recent years, the Conterno Barolo Francia has often been relatively accessible post bottling, the 2015 is far from that. (AG)" (11/2019) 97 points R...

95 points Vinous: "The 2008 Barolo Bricco Sarmassa is fabulous. It boasts gorgeous inner sweetness, cool minerality and fabulous perfume. Dark cherries, mint, flowers and spices wrap around the gorgeous, chiseled finish. The Bricco Sarmassa is one of the Barolo's most under the radar wines. This is a prototypical 2008 that captures the very best qualities of the year. Layers of fruit build to the long, vibrant finish. Enzo Brezza did a great job with his Bricco Saramassa in 2008. 94 points Vinous: "Vajra's Langhe Freisa Kye has been fabulous for several years now. The 2010 is another stellar vintage. Rich, deep and powerful, yet much lighter on its feet than some of the more explosive vintages, the 2010 stands out for its impeccable balance. Today the 2010 is incredibly primary, with very little in the way of flavor development. Instead, it is the wine's texture and pure minerality that stand out. With time in the glass the wine's volume and breadth become more apparent. Blood orange, savory herbs, menthol, rosemary and melted ro...

Bid on this bottle of 2010 G.D. Vajra "Bricco Delle Viole" Barolo (97DC, 96VN, 93WS). Decanter: "After a long winter delayed bud break, the cool spring saw regular rainfall and the summer continued without extremes of temperature. Grapes were picked during the second half of October and given a 50 day maceration. Currently, the 2010 is an intriguing tangle of violet, lavender, pepper and mint. Minerally and textured, the palate is wound up in a firm, tannic grasp, boasting an unstoppable finish, both of which bode well for a long life. (MM)" (10/2017)
