2011 & 2014 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend Tasting Lot
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2011 & 2014 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 2011 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (96RP, 96VN, 94ST, 93WS) and 3-bottles of 2014 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 97WS, 96VN). Of the 2014 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The sensationally pure and seamless 2014 James Berry Vineyard Proprietary Red (42% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, 21% Syrah, 8% Counoise and 5% Roussanne) was brought up in a mix of barrels and foudre, followed by six months in concrete tanks. The wine offers incredibly rich and layered notes of black raspberries, creme de cassis, crushed flowers, melted licorice and peppery herbs in its full-bodied, impeccably balanced profile. Showing the more upfront, hedonistic style of the vintage, this full-bodied beauty still has ample underlying tannin, beautiful mid-palate depth and a killer finis

1979 Kenwood "Jack London Vineyard" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1979 Kenwood "Jack London Vineyard" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. The Jack London Vineyard's red volcanic soils of Sonoma Mountain impart the fruit characteristics of this Cabernet Sauvignon with an aromatic distinction and a rich and elegant style. Renowned writer and adventurer Jack London made his home in Sonoma County's Valley of the Moon, enamored by its beauty. Between 1905 and 1916 London bought up ranches in the western hills, including hundreds of vineyard acres first planted by Kohler Fröhling Winery in the 1870s. London's property was managed by his stepsister, Eliza Shepard, whose grandson Milo, replanted 130 acres of vineyards in the late 1960s. In 1976 Kenwood Vineyards became the exclusive marketer of wines from Jack London's property. This 1979 "Jack London Vineyard" Cab is one of the early wines from this legendary Sonoma County property's second epoch as a winegrowing estate.

2001 J.-F. Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2001 J.-F. Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (97ST, 95RP, 95VN, 93BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "I was blown away by the power, verve and soil-driven complexity of Coche-Dury's 2001 Corton-Charlemagne. Full yellow in color, it’s approaching maturity but shows every sign of a continuing graceful evolution in bottle. Its vibrant apple, citrus peel and brown spice aromas and flavors have been joined by deeper notes of brioche, white truffle and porcini. This wonderfully tactile, plush wine boasts compelling sweetness leavened by lively acidity, and the musky, minerally, slowly building finish begs for a side of crustaceans. (ST)" (08/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2015 Philip Togni "Estate" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 96WS, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a very classic nose of cassis, warm plums and crushed blackberries with notions of cigar box, garrigue, damp soil and truffles plus wafts of menthol and underbrush. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a firm frame of grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long and minerally. Drink through 2045. (LPB)" (06/2018)

1969 Louis Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1969 Louis Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The story of Louis Martini is a key chapter in Napa's winemaking history. Genovese immigrant Louis Martini established his first business in 1922, smack in the middle of Prohibition (in force in the U.S. from 1919 until 1933). He was therefore limited to making "sacramental and medicinal" wines at first. With the end of prohibition, Martini became one the first winemakers in California to produce vintage varietal table wines in quantity, and at reasonable prices. His son's 1968/70 Merlot was the first varietal Merlot made in the U.S. Sourced from prime vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, including Monte Rosso in the mountains above Sonoma Valley and La Loma in the cool Carneros district south of Napa, and made with care and expertise, Louis Martini wines have aged exceptionally well. With their hallmark of impeccable balance, older Louis Martini Cabs never cease to amaze.

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Penfolds "Kalimna Block 42" Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa Valley South Australia (96JH, 93RP). James Halliday: "Medium to full red-purple; a paradigm of everything Cabernet Sauvignon should be: the fragrant cassis/redcurrant fruit and perfect oak integration of the bouquet is followed by an intensely flavoured yet elegant wine on a very long palate flooded with cassis and redcurrant fruit, and crowned with fine tannins on the finish. 2017 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2017 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (96JD). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Pinot Noir MacLean's Block comes from an east facing slope just outside the town of Occidental and spent 16 months in 31% new French oak. It’s a complete, balanced, medium to full-bodied effort that does everything right, giving up a huge bouquet of smoky black fruits, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and wood smoke. This big, masculine 2016 has plenty of tannins, a great mid-palate, and no shortage of length on the finish, it just needs 2-3 years of bottle age to show at its best." (06/2019)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 99JS, 96WS, 94VN, 93RP) in original wood. James Suckling: "Like listening to cool mellow rock 'n' roll. Extraordinary aromas of violets and dark fruits such as blueberries and currants. I can't get over the aromas here. Then it goes to minerals with just a hint of bay leaf. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins with a beautiful softness and beautifulness. I love the balance and harmony to this with bright acidity. I would drink this before the 2007. Just under 1,000 cases of 12 but all sold in threes. Reminds me of Leoville Las Cases but with Napa brightness. Enjoy or hold for a long time." (06/2011)

Of the 2010 Littorai "Cerise" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Another drop-dead beautiful wine, the 2010 Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard is all about finesse and textural beauty. Here it is the wine’s sublime, layered personality that stands out most. Small red berries, crushed flowers, spices and mint flow through to the finish. In 2010, the Cerise is flat-out gorgeous. Hints of game, tar and licorice add complexity as the wine opens up in the glass, leading to a striking, eternal finish. This is a flat-out gorgeous effort from Littorai and proprietor Ted Lemon. 1982 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Margaux, Margaux (97JS, 97RP, 97VN, 92WS). Vinous: "The 1982 Château Margaux is a real stunner. An exotic, almost candied bouquet melds into sweet red-hued fruit in a voluptuous, racy Margaux endowed with magnificent purity. Large and ample on the palate, with silky tannins and translucent fruit, the 1982 is rich yet also miraculously seamless. All the elements are in the right place. I followed this bottle over several hours, during which it only improved. The 1982 won’t last forever, but it will deliver thrilling drinking for up to another decade. This is one of the better 1982 Margauxs I have tasted. (AG)" (05/2015)

1966 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1966 Latour, Pauillac (96JG, 96RP, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1966 Latour remains an exemplar of the vintage, certainly one of the best, if not the best Left Bank wine of the vintage. Here, served blind, its quality was a beacon, quintessentially Pauillac with that trademark graphite seam through the intense black fruit, cold stone and a touch of tobacco. It remains undimmed by its age (though this was served from a magnum of impeccable provenance). The palate is medium-bodied and that graphite theme continues unabated, flanked by beautiful, precise and pure vestiges of black fruit. 'Pure class' are the final two words of my tasting note and at 50 years old, they sum up this immensely impressive Château Latour. (NM)" (10/2016)

1971 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1971 Latour, Pauillac (95JG, 94RP, 93JS, 93VN). John Gilman: "As I mentioned above, the 1971 vintage of Latour was in that first small cache of the estate’s wines that I bought back in the mid-1980s, and I have searched out and drunk this wine with great regularity up until only a couple of years ago, when the wine market woke up to its excellence and prices started to move up rather dramatically. It still looks like a stunning value when one considers that the still very backward 2005 was released ex-cellar for 670 euros a bottle, and only a few years back, this gorgeous wine could still be found around $200 a bottle. The wine is classic Latour, offering up a black fruity bouquet of dark berries, cassis, cigar ash, walnuts, gravelly soil tones, a nice touch of meatiness and a plenty smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and now wide open and fully mature, with a fine core, lovely soil signature, melting, suave tannins and lovely length

1982 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1982 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux (90VN, 90WS). Vinous: "The 1982 Brane-Cantenac was picked September 15 to October 1. It has a more conservative bouquet compared to the superior 1983, featuring black and red fruit, tobacco, mint and pressed flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, just a touch of dark chocolate infiltrating the black fruit on the entry. There is a dab of spice and white pepper toward the tertiary finish, which persists as you would expect in a great vintage. This is very fine, even if the 1983 Brane-Cantenac is better. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château. (NM)" (01/2019)

Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice and sweet spice notes build as this flamboyantly ripe wine shows off its personality. 1988 Calera "Jensen Vineyard" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1988 Calera "Jensen Vineyard" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir (96RP, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most profound Pinot Noirs I have ever tasted ... anywhere, this extraordinary 14-year old wine remains extremely youthful in spite of its majestic display of aromas and flavors. Boasting prodigious concentration in addition to a stunning smorgasbord of aromas (Japanese soy, candied red and black fruits, autumnal leaves, forest floor, and caramels), it is opulent and dense, with spectacular concentration, medium to full body, and surprising lightness in the mouth. This stunning effort proves that this vineyard can compete with France’s most magical red Burgundies. Not yet fully mature, it should evolve for another decade. Unbelievable wine! (RP)" (12/2002)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (95JS, 95RP, 95ST, 95W&S, 93VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Monte Bello is marked by the drought vintage, which not only made a more concentrated crop but also deprived the blend of all supporting varieties, as only Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot handled the dry conditions sufficiently gracefully to make the final cut. At age ten, this muscular Monte Bello is finally beginning to unwind, offering up rich aromas of black cherry, cassis, dried mountain laurel, loamy soil and burning embers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, expansive and powerful, its generous, sweetly fruited attack giving way to a taut, firm mid-palate that doesn't show as much finesse as the 2010 or 2012, concluding with a long, stony finish. Baugher observes that in its youth, the 2008 was "monolithic and more angular—a mouthful of tannin." A decade later, it's beginning to soften, but it still req

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 96VN, (91-93RP), 91WS) in original wood. Vinous: "Dark plum, mocha, spice, licorice and asphalt meld together in the 2011 Scarecrow. One of the most powerful, resonant wines of the year, the 2011 is endowed with serious structure. Readers need to be patient. Today the tannins are super powerful, but at the same time there is tremendous complexity in the glass. The 2011 is arguably the most refined Scarecrow ever made. There is plenty of depth, but also incredible elegance and precision throughout. (AG) 96+" (11/2013)

Vinous: "The 2012 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard is deep, dense and beautifully layered throughout. Pliant and resonant, the Gaps Crown is above all else a wine of texture. Dark red cherry and plum notes flesh out in a voluptuous, racy Pinot that captures the essence of this site and the vintage. Silky tannins support the gracious, resonant finish. (AG)" (01/2015)

2000 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (95RP, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Château Grand Puy Lacoste is an exceptional wine from Xavier Borie. It has a brilliant nose of blackberry, crushed stone, graphite and cedar. Putting it to one side for ten to 15 minutes reveals subtle mint-like aromas that whisk you straight to Pauillac. The palate is smooth and silky, cloaking the tannic frame of this GPL so that you barely notice it. But that will stand it in good stead for the long-term, the cornerstone of all great wines from this estate. Then there is that hint of spice on the aftertaste—the show ain't over yet. Served alongside a magnum of Pichon Baron 2000, I would say that at the moment, it does not quite possess the same level of precision. However, it remains a magnificent Pauillac to cherish long-term. Tasted January 2016. (NM)" (07/2016)

1983 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1983 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, it has been some 25 years since Robert Parker last reviewed the 1983 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses from Drouhin, noting that the wine underwent an intense filtration. Given that this was not a great Burgundy vintage, this wine has actually matured well. It has a light soy-tinged bouquet with some volatile acidity lending a bit of warmth. The palate is medium-bodied and pleasantly fresh and vital considering its age, nothing complex but with a delicate spicy finish. I would not leave this too much longer, but well kept bottles will give pleasure. (NM)" (03/2016)

2005 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 95ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A nose of black raspberries interwoven with floral notes of blackcurrants and spice jump from the glass of this dense ruby/plum/purple wine. This famous vineyard at the northern end of Napa Valley, which in this era was owned by Bart and Daphne Araujo (today owned by François Pinault, the proprietor of Château Latour), can certainly make the argument that it’s one of the first growths of Napa Valley. Sweet, velvety tannin, medium to full body, and extraordinary complexity and elegance characterize this wine, which is seamless and drinking beautifully. While not one of their longest-lived vintages, the balance and purity suggest that, while it may be entering its fully mature stage, it certainly can keep going for another 10-15 years. The finish is easily 40 seconds-plus. (RP)" (06/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru ((94-96RP), 94BH, 94ST, 93JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Chambertin Clos de Beze bursts with spicy red cherry aromas. This medium to full-bodied wine has an exceptionally spicy personality that is crammed with red licorice (Twizzlers), candied raspberries, Asian spices, and blackberries. Wonderfully focused and armed with substantial depth, this medium to full-bodied wine’s exceedingly long finish displays awesomely ripe tannin. (PR)" (06/2004)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2016 Spottswoode "Family Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 100JD, 100RP, 96VN, 95JS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is still very tight and youthful, slowly unfurling to reveal a multifaceted wine with tons of black, blue and red fruit sparks—plums, cherries, black currants and red currants—with dark chocolate, cedar chest, black tea and red roses in the background plus wafts of pencil lead and prosciutto. Medium-bodied and firmly textured by superbly ripe, grainy tannins, it has a fantastic core of intense, complex layers, finishing on an edifying mineral note. Wow! (LPB)" (10/2018)

1980 d'Yquem, Sauternes
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1980 d'Yquem, Sauternes (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This year is a perfect example of a vintage that was much better for the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes than it was for the red wines. Yquem produced its greatest wine since the twin titans of 1975 and 1976. Medium golden, with a big, opulent, honeyed, oaky, flowery, tropical fruit bouquet, this wine is rich and concentrated, has very good acidity, a lot of botrytis, and a stunning finish. It is a great success, and it continues to evolve at a snail's pace. Anticipated maturity: Now-2035. (RP)" (01/1998)

2011 Au Sommet Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Au Sommet Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 90VN) in original wood. Vinous: "(14.8% alcohol; from a vineyard planted at an altitude of 2,100 feet): Bright ruby-red. Sexy oak complements but does not overwhelm aromas of medicinal black cherry, coffee, mocha, dark chocolate and licorice. Fat on entry, then sweet and juicy in the middle, with good intensity to the flavors of black and sour cherry and chocolate mint. Finishes long, with a lightly herbal quality nicely counterpointed by sweet mocha. With air, the fruit component faded into the background as a mineral element emerged. (ST)" (05/2014)

2006 Continuum Oakville Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Continuum Oakville Bordeaux Blend (96RP, 95WS, 94JS, 93VN, 93WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mainly sourced from To Kalon vineyard and blended of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 16% Petit Verdot, the 2006 Proprietary Red has a deep garnet-brick color and slips sensuously out of the glass with perfumed incense and potpourri scents over notions of menthol, figs and dried mulberries with touches of fruitcake and cigar box. The palate is big, concentrated, full-bodied, firm and chewy, finishing long and spicy. Drink through 2025. (LPB)" (02/2019)

Praise for the producer from Vinous: "After having spent most of the last year visiting the reference-point estates in France, Italy and California, I was blown away not just by the quality of what I tasted, but by the maniacal attention to detail that informs everything that happens at Sine Qua Non. 2005 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Montrose, St-Estèphe (97VN, 96DC, 96JS, 95JD, 95WS, 94RP, 93ST, 93W&S). Vinous: "The 2005 Montrose replicated previous showings of that formidable wine. The bouquet is backward and here exuding more black fruit than previous bottles, rendering it more akin to the 2010 Montrose. With aeration those telltale scents of pencil lead emerge, although this bottle shows a touch more brine. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, a Montrose with huge backbone, solid to the point of being obdurate. Yet that would be overlooking the poise and delineation of this Montrose, the manner in which it gathers momentum towards the grippy finish. It is a truly great 2005 Bordeaux but it deserves a couple of decades in bottle. Tasted blind at "Philip's Belated February Christmas Lunch." (NM)" (07/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 2014 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 98JS, 98RP, 98VN, 97JD, 95DC, 94WS) in original wood. Vinous: "A wine of restraint and sensuality, the 2014 Harlan Estate is wonderfully transparent in feel. Time in the glass brings out a compelling interplay of beautifully layered fruit and lifted aromatics. The 2014 is one of the most understated yet energetic young vintages of Harlan Estate I can remember tasting. Readers who have not tasted Harlan Estate in a few years might be taken aback by just how sophisticated and nuanced the 2014 is. This is a superb effort. (AG)" (03/2018)
