2012 Château de Montfaucon "Vin de Monsieur Le Baron de Montfaucon" Vin de Pays du Gard

91 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and slightly gutsy, but still alluring, with lots of smoldering charcoal and roasted alder notes framing a core of dark plum, fig and blackberry paste flavors. Offers a thick coat of tobacco and fresh humus on the finish, revealing a light echo of bay at the very end. Distinctive. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Counoise, Mourvèdre, Viognier and Clairette. (JM)" (11/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Vin de Mr le Baron is the current release, as there was none made in 2013–2015. This unique win ...

2012 Château de Montfaucon Côtes du Rhône (1.5L)

Just across the Rhône river from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this 88-acre estate is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe. Montfaucon crafts their Côtes du Rhône to express the intense fruit characteristics of the appellation, blending to achieve harmony and balance.

2012 Next of Kyn (Sine Qua Non) "Cumulus Vineyard No. 6" Central Coast Red Blend

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine that flirts with perfection, the 2012 Cumulus Vineyard #6 is an interesting blend of 38% Syrah, 37% Grenache, 17.4% Petite Sirah and the rest Mourvedre that saw 33 months in 54% new French oak. There’s a tiny 191 cases made, and it’s one of the most singular, exotic wines I’ve tasted. Spice, cedar, chocolate, exotic flowers and an assortment of dark fruits all emerge from this full-bodied, layered blend that hits the palate with serious richness and depth. Yet, like all truly great wines, it’s light, ether ...

2012 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Tablas" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

93-95 points Vinous: "A big, explosive wine, the 2012 Esprit de Tablas is warm and ample on the palate, very much in the style of the year, yet there is plenty of power lying in reserve. In 2012, Syrah plays a larger role than in both the 2010 and 2011, which is felt in the wine broad, expansive personality. This is going to be a fascinating Esprit to follow over the coming years. (AG)" (07/2014) 92-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Fresh dark berries, licorice, olive, woodsmoke and candied violet on the deeply perf ...

2012 Saxum "Heart Stone Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Heart Stone Vineyard is 43% Syrah, 41% Grenache and 16% Mourvedre that was aged mostly in concrete (the ’11 was aged 100% in concrete) yet also saw some new and neutral puncheons. Fermented with 40% whole clusters, it’s a big, burly effort that has beautiful creme de cassis, black raspberry, crushed violets, vanilla bean and exotic flower-like qualities all emerging from the glass. It too has a structured feel, with high, yet ripe tannin, so short-term cellaring is also advised here. (JD)" (08/2014) 92 ...

2012 Domaine de la Jaufrette Côtes-du-Rhone (Previously $25)

When first tasting the wines of Domaine de la Jaufrette, the name López de Heredia sprang to mind. That famous Rioja producer is known for its late-release and complex reds that are subtle, old school and long lived. Jaufrette can be seen as the Rhône equivalent. Jaufrette is run by Frédéric Chastan, the third generation winemaker to oversee this project. The winery sits just outside the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation but has holdings in Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Côtes-du-Rhône. All the grapes are hand harvested and hand sorted, and the reds are fermente ...

2012 Le Clos du Caillou "La Réserve" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve le Clos du Caillou is a classic example of this cuvee. Made from 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, aged all in demi-muid, it offers ample dark fruits, chocolate, bouquet garni and licorice in its full-bodied, supple, forward and elegantly styled profile. As with all of the 2012s here, the tannin is wonderfully ripe, the wine has solid concentration and everything is perfectly balanced. While it’s hard to resist already, it will be better with short-term cellaring and have 15+ ye ...

2012 Tablas Creek "Panoplie" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (1.5L)

94-96 points Vinous: "A rich, ample wine, the 2012 Panoplie is also a great example of the year. Here the fruit is sweet and textured to the core, yet there is plenty of underlying energy in support. The textured, explosive finish is a thing of beauty. I expect the 2012 to be compelling pretty much upon release. Actually, it already is. (AG)" (07/2014) 94-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright violet color. Presents a heady, expansive bouquet of black and blue fruit preserves, incense and smoky Indian spices. Smooth, seamless and ...

The textured, explosive finish is a thing of beauty. I expect the 2012 to be compelling pretty much upon release. Actually, it already is. (AG)" (07/2014) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The top wine of the estate and the least impressive Panoplie I've tasted, the 2012 Panoplie (70% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache and 10% Syrah) offers a darker slant to ...

2012 Orin Swift "Abstract" Rhône Blend (1.5L)

Jancis Robinson: "Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah from Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Amador and El Dorado. Winemaker David Phinney was the creator of the hugely successful brand The Prisoner, which he has since sold. 10 months in both new and seasoned French Oak. Deeply coloured. Ripe dark blackcurrant and cassis with a fine dustiness to damp down the sweetness. Lots of oak char – very oaky, very dark, coaly dark, but a lovely dry compact texture. Chewy pleasure. (17/20 points)" (10/2013) Wine Spectator: "Tightly wound and well-built, with a rich core of ...

2012 Roger Sabon "Secret de Sabon" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Previously $120)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The top wine of the estate is the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape le Secret de Sabon, and the inky-colored 2012 is a brilliant effort. I don’t think it hits the heights of the 2010, 2007 or 2001, but it’s still a singular expression of Grenache that could come from nowhere else, and is distinctly different from the three prior Châteauneufs. Possessing a sweet nose of ripe raspberries, kirsch, garrigue and licorice, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, tons of glycerol and texture, sweet tannin and mode ...

2012 Booker "Vertigo 24" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still in barrel, the 2012 Vertigo 24 release shows a similar level of purity to go with killer aromatics (black raspberry, bouquet garni and licorice), full-bodied richness and a layered, decadent style on the palate. It has a tad more richness and depth than the straight bottling, and is an incredible red. (JD)" (08/2014) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2012 Vertigo 24 has a little more tannic spine than the straight Vertigo. Dark red stone fruits, spices, mint and new leather are all very much alive. Although qu ...

2012 Booker "Oublié 24" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Slightly more savory and rich than the straight Oublie release, the 2012 Oublie 24 gives up more bouquet garni, black fruits and ground herbs to go with a full-bodied, fabulously concentrated feel on the palate. It too has a southern Rhone-like feel and should drink nicely on release and evolve gracefully for 7-8 years. Created in 2005, owner/winemaker Eric Jenson has pushed Booker Vineyard into the top 2-3 estates in the region. While the defining trait in the past was sheer richness and texture, I think th ...

2012 Booker "Oublie" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Oublie checks in as a blend of 44% Mourvedre, 36% Grenache and 20% Counoise and offers up a Rhone-like feel in its kirsch, underbrush, spiced meats and floral aromas and flavors. It shows the full-bodied richness and depth that’s the hallmark of this estate, yet it stays seamless and elegant, with a terrific finish. It’s one of the more graceful and elegant wines in the lineup and will drink well for 7-8 years. (JD)" (08/2014) 92 points Vinous: "Crushed flowers, sweet red berries, rose petals, spices a ...

2012 Booker "Vertigo" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Vertigo is a blend of 57% Syrah, 32% Mourvedre and 11% Grenache that spent 18 months in French oak. It has fabulous purity to go with notions of sweet red and black berries, crushed flowers, licorice and rose petal on the nose. This flows to a medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless red that has no hard edges, building richness, and a graceful, lightly textured feel that never seems heavy or cumbersome. It will thrill for upward of a decade. (JD)" (08/2014) 91 points Vinous: "Dark red cherry, plum, ...
