Abbazia is a monastery founded in 1142 by the Augustinian Order of Canons Regular and which produces a range of white and red wines from both estate vineyards at the abbey and from smaller growers near the town of Novacella in the Isarco River Valley. A family owned winery first established in 1928, Peter Zemmer has built its reputation on producing wines from some of the finest estates in and around Cortina s.s.d.v. in Alto Adige of South Tyrol. According to the winery, the "Caprile" Muller Thurgau is produced with grapes growing at "an elevation of 800 m. (2,500 ft.) on well-arranged terraced slopes of the Lowlands. The favourable altitude of the vineyards on limestone soils, the gentle slope of the hillside, and ideal sunshine give the grapes of this varietal an excellent maturation."
