Equipo Navazos "La Bota de Fino #68 - Macharnudo Alto" Jerez

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV La Bota de Fino Macharnudo Alto 68 is a similar wine to what was bottled in the editions 54, 34, 27, 18, 15, 7 and 2; it is produced like the wines from yesteryear, fermented in bota and kept in contact with flor for some ten years. This is a classic already, and they are bottling more or less the same botas as in previous editions. Here, the soil is as strong (or more) than the long aging, and has lots of things in common, the chalkiness, with their other wines (think Navazos Niepoort for example), which ...

Alvear "Carlos VII" Amontillado Montilla-Moriles (375ml)

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The NV Alvear Amontillado Carlos VII is a beauty, with more elegance and purity than the Criadera A release. Caramelized citrus, honey, salted peanuts, hints of blue cheese, and tons of spice notes all flow to a powerful yet elegant sherry that has bright acidity and a beautiful finish. This release can be thought of as a very old Fino where the flor has died and sunk to the bottom of the barrel, exposing the wine to oxygen and oxidation, which concentrates the wine (and raises the alcohol)." Equipo Navazos "Navazos" Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda (375ml)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The new NV Manzanilla Navazos En Rama is the equivalent for the USA of the Manzanilla I Think, destined for markets other than Spain, the UK or Australia. Like the I Think, it is bottled unfined and unfiltered from a solera averaging four to five years of age. It's younger than the Navazos Pasada or La Bota de bottlings but keeps the character of the Sanlúcar origin. It's very 'Florpower' with a pungent palate, very much about the soil, direct and vertical. This is sourced from some 60 casks and it filled 2,592 h ...

La Guita Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda

92 points Wine Spectator: "This round white has texture and grip, with rich and focused flavors of apple, almond, green olive and brine. Offers plenty of fruit, but remains grounded thanks to the briny character. Expressive and balanced. *Smart Buys, Ranked #30, Top 100 Wines of 2017* (JM)" (11/2012) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "As usual, La Guita is one of the best values in Spain. For a ridiculous price, you can get all the sun of Sanlúcar, saline aromas of the sea and notes of apricot and walnuts in a refreshing and vital Manzanilla, ready for fried a ...

Bodegas Yuste "Aurora" Amontillado Sanlucar de Barrameda 500ml

From a solera begun in 1991, this spectacular Sanluqueño Amontillado contains wine of an average age of 15-20 years old. Blended in, there is a tiny amount of very old wine discovered in the bodega shortly after its purchase. It had been sealed in plaster, as the former owner was apparently determined to keep this pre-phylloxera wine, unblended, all to himself! Aromatics reveal salty flor, followed by toffee. The wine is racy on the palate, until it turns rich and succulent, with buttered and roasted pecan and almond flavors. This is really quite good. ( ...

La Cigarrera Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda (375ml)

Wine Spectator: "Shows a light piney hint before bright chamomile and honeysuckle aromas fill in. Rather nervy through the palate, featuring a finish of green almond and fennel notes. (Web-2014)" K&L Notes: A wonderful expression of Manzanilla, the La Cigarrera always comes to us very fresh, expressing the briny, sea air quality for which these wines are known. It is bone dry, appley and has suggestions of loquat fruit and pits, with terrific complexity, no doubt due to the bodega's prime location in the "barrio bajo" section of Sanlucar, as well as its ...

Bodegas Tradición Fino Viejo Jerez

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I tasted five different bottlings of the very old Fino from Tradición, starting with the younger NV Fino Viejo Tradición from the May 2017 release. When they do the spring bottling the flor is really blooming (literally!) and the wines are more expressive. This feels very young and has plenty of yeasty aromas, hints of esparto grass and olives in brine. The palate is dry, intense and sharp but with the volume and concentration of old age. Each bottling sees 3,000 bottles filled. It's fascinating to see how the wi ...

Barbadillo "Pastora" Manzanilla Pasada en Rama Sanlucar de Barrameda (375ml)

Barbadillo is back! This bottling of Manzanilla Pasada, a more mature, longer aged Manzanilla which deepens in flavor and softens in texture, deriving a combination of autolytic and flor driven goodness from the yeast. This wine is so elegant, and would pair beautifully with sushi, a simple rice bowl with egg and soy sauce, or even a plate of spaghetti with bottarga.

Barbadillo "Solear" Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Don't be put off by the intensely resinous scent; this is a complex, classic manzanilla, with dark nut notes in the intense flor-driven flavor and a brisk sea-salt edge. Under the flor, hints of lemon zest, dried apple and almonds merge in a delicate balance. Ideal with nothing more than a handful of marcona almonds." (04/2005) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Very high-pitched, with bright chalk, chamomile, salt and lemon seed notes. The vigorous finish has serious cut. Drink now. *Top 100 Wines of 2014* (JM)" (08/2014) Wine Ent ...

Tio Pepe (Gonzalez Byass) Fino Sherry

Jancis Robinson: "Benchmark classic smoky-salty nose. Hay. Subtle, beautifully fresh, moderately sustained. Mouth-wateringly dry. Reliable and *Good Value* 16/20 points. (JH)" (04/2016) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Talking about which, the NV Tio Pepe Fino is an icon of Sherry wine. Produced from Palomino grapes aged in the Tio Pepe solera for an average of four years under flor. It has a light nose of dried flowers, almonds and olives, in a subtle way and a dry palate dominated by the chalky notes. Light and easy to drink, it is a good introduction ...

Hidalgo La Gitana Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda (500ml)

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Consistently one of the finest traditional manzanillas you'll ever taste, La Gitana might as well be the Webster's entry for the category: pale straw color, salty seaside freshness and a dry, tangy, yet rich flavor. And that flavor lingers after each sip, too, like sea spray." (04/2005) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Dry and refreshing, with apple, straw and nutty flavors all underscored by a salty tanginess. Lightweight and balanced, this is very appealing. Break out the almonds and olives. Drink now. " (10/2005) Robert Parker ...

90 points Wine Spectator: "Round, rich style. Sports bitter chocolate, toffee, honey and ocean brine flavors, picking up a burnt edge. Balanced, ending with a dry, pungent finish. (BS)" (11/2006) Jancis Robinson: "Pale walnut brown. Caramel and reduced bitter orange on the nose. That glorious bitter orange on the palate too, with amazing freshness and precise shape. Intense bitter-orange flavour but without bitterness, then the salty finish increasing the freshness. (JH) 17.5/20 points" (03/2017) K&L Notes: Lots of attention has recently been placed ...

Alexander Jules Fino "9/65" Jerez

From the importer: "Alexander Jules is my label of ? barrel selected sherries and Spanish wine import company. I search the Sherry Triangle for exceptional soleras of unique composition or circumstance, tasting each barrel in the solera, marking with chalk those I feel to be the most complex and elegant, or those that reflect the profile I would like to bring out from within that solera. Bodegas Yuste "Aurora" Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda 500ml

An incredible 8-10 year average age Manzanilla, the Aurora is our newest Manzanilla and one of our more exciting Sanluqueño offerings in quite a while! A blend of two different soleras: one in barrio bajo which contributes umami driven savoriness and the other in barrio alto which lends a round richness, this is a Manzanilla that satisfies and clearly is punching beyond its weight class. Aromas of flor and tarragon lead to a lovely appley palate with surprising textural weight and length. A must try for fans of the inimitable dry Sherries of Sanlucar de ...

Rey Fernando de Castilla Fino En Rama Jerez (375ml)

This is the en rama, or unfiltered, version of Rey Fernando de Castilla's excellent Fino, bottled in October 2013. It is a beautiful, even more pungent, fresh and vibrant expression of their regular Fino bottling, and will likely maintain this immediate "en rama-ness" for several months, before evolving over the next few years into something less pungent and salty, but richer and every bit as intriguing. Founded in 1999 by Jan Petterson, a Norwegian who is a long-time veteran of the Sherry trade, these are excellent Sherries across the board, particula ...

Valdespino "Deliciosa" Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda

93 points Wine & Spirits: "Deliciosa grows at the Pago Miraflores in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and it’s typically aged for five years under flor. This lastest saca shows a lovely mix of almond flavors, salt and white fruit, all melding into the wine’s deep mineral notes. It’s substantial enough to serve in the company of blackened redfish." (08/2018) Jancis Robinson: "Slightly darker than some. Really nutty aroma, chewy, great freshness and a yeasty richness. Super-fresh and full of yeasty umami character as well as dried grasses. Emilio Hidalgo "La Panesa" Especial Fino Jerez

96 points Wine & Spirits: "“Fino Amontillado” is a style of Sherry that’s virtually extinct. It was made from old wines that had almost lost their flor and had begun to oxidize, their color darkening as they gained depth and complexity. Although La Panesa is not, strictly speaking, a Fino Amontillado, it has the characteristics of those wines from the past. With an average of 15 years of aging in solera (ten more than most Finos), it takes the lifespan of flor to the limit, creating a wine that’s intoxicating in its mineral and dried-fruit fragrance. Bon ...

La Ina Fino Jerez Sherry

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Fino La Ina is a recent acquisition, as it was one of the flagship wines from the old, deceased Domecq winery. Quite pale, it feels fresh, with toasted sesame seeds, roasted nuts and salty notes in a fresh and light palate, with good acidity and short- to medium aging. (LG)" (08/2013) K&L Notes: Formerly owned by Domecq, this is one of Andalucía's most beloved, everyday fino sherries. Rey Fernando de Castilla "Singular" Oloroso Jerez

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are only 600 half bottles of the spirity and super old NV Oloroso Singular, which had all the signs of an extremely old age before the wines of this oxidative style become too painful and/or volatile: iodine, rusty iron, cigar ash, varnished oak and nuts. The palate is super concentrated and intense, a little extreme, hugely concentrated and pungent, with 22% alcohol on the label and an eternal finish. They purchased three casks that had been with a family for almost 100 years. It was bottled in December 20 ...

Faustino Gonzáles Cruz Vieja Viña Roble Amontillado Jerez

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Going one step beyond, the NV Amontillado en Rama Cruz Vieja is aged for five years under 'flor' and then a further seven years in topped up barrels once the alcohol was adjusted to 17.5% in the 'soleras' and 'criaderas' system for an average of seven years. It is an elegant, floral wine, with subtle notes of hazelnuts, pine nuts, flowers, honey and a very sharp, salty palate, that makes it extremely long. This is the May 2014 bottling (Lot-141603), and I consider this a great value Amontillado. 1,000 bottles wer ...

The long, vigorous finish has lovely spine, leaving a fleur de sel note echoing. (JM)" (08/2014) K&L Notes: Lots of attention has recently been placed on the historic region and stunning wines of Jerez. Valdespino "Tio Diego" Amontillado Jerez

93 points Wine & Spirits: "Extremely dry, this austere Amontillado comes from the white chalky albariza soils of the famed Macharnudo vineyard. It aged under flor for about eight years, and then spent eight more years aging oxidatively before being bottled. At first, it shows only the classic flavors of iodine and salt, with enchanting sea breeze notes. You have to wait for the fruit flavors to emerge, notes of roasted white fruit and nuts emerging in the midst of its cool flavors. Faustino Gonzáles Cruz Vieja Viña Roble Oloroso Jerez

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The textbook NV Oloroso en Rama Cruz Vieja is bottled from a solera started in 1900 and the wine averages 10 years of age. It's immediately recognizable as Oloroso, and even if it's not particularly old or complex, it's really pleasant. It mixes noble woods, with bitter marmalade, tobacco and spices. The palate is round and balanced, with good intensity. Emilio Hidalgo "Villapanés" Oloroso Jerez

An exceedingly rare oloroso, in that it is actually aged very briefly under flor prior to its 15-20 years of solera ageing oxidatively, the Villapanés is one of the great wines of Jerez. Faustino Gonzáles Cruz Vieja Viña Roble Palo Cortado Jerez

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Palo Cortado en Rama Cruz Vieja started its life with one year of biological aging under yeasts and then aged oxidatively in topped up barrels. It has a creamy note intermixed with the classical hazelnuts and a touch of caramel. The palate is certainly closer to an Amontillado than an Oloroso, with certain sharpness. I'm impressed. 1,000 bottles were filled in October 2014. (LG)" (04/2016) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Nervy in feel, with a streak of bitter almond lending spine while notes of toasted hazeln ...

Vivid but with a nutty appeal with really marked ageing notes such as toast and biscuit. Great intensity and depth. Extremely fresh bottle - although I know Spaniards are at an advantage in terms of sherry freshness. Valdespino "Inocente" Fino Jerez

95 points Wine & Spirits: "Inocente is Valdespino’s flagship, a wine from the Macharnudo Alto vineyard, where the soil is pure white albariza. It ferments in 600-liter wooden casks without added yeasts, a practice that has become increasingly rare in Jerez. The intensity of the wine’s salinity is remarkable—iodine and salt—coming together with ripe white fruit, scents of nuts and exotic spices. The structure is dry and austere, like drinking the juice of stones. This will last for a decade in the cellar, but it’s impossible to hold onto a bottle if there ...
