2001 Malescasse, Haut-Médoc

Wine Spectator: "Attractive plum, berry and vanilla character follows through to a full-bodied palate, with soft, silky tannins and a long finish. Always very good quality for the money. Best after 2006." (03/2004) K&L Notes: Ralph and I love the 2001 vintage Bordeaux because the wines just taste great, and they have tasted great since 2007. They are elegant and fruit driven, with no hard edges. This wine is one of those value Bordeaux for parties and everyday drinking. Red fruits abound. Serve with a nice hamburger from the barbecue. 2013 Bagueri Ribolla Gialla Slovenia

97 points Decanter: "A softer style than some with a round, succulently fruity style: grass, plant sap, cardamom and exotic fruits. There’s an Alsace-like or Wachau-like feel to this version. (2018 DWWA)" K&L Notes: The Bagueri is composed of 100% Ribolla Gialla (locally known as Rebula in Slovenia) from 4 different vineyard sites with vine ages between 15 and 40 years of age. This grape thrives on the marl and sandstone soils of Brda (on the western side of Slovenia, near Italy). The grapes are all hand harvested and the wine goes through fermentation ...

2007 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja

91 points James Suckling: "There’s still a lot of life to this aging Gran Reserva. It shows dried cherries, dried raspberries, cedar, tobacco and spices. Round and resolved on the palate with a good, but not overbearing, drying effect to the tannins. Solid on the finish. Drink now. " (06/2019) K&L Notes: A K&L Direct Import! Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. Hailing from a long line of vineyard worker/owners, Puelles knows the terruño in his little slice of land in the Rioja Alta town of Abalos. All of the grapes for his red ...

2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

92 points James Suckling: "The quality of the fruit and tannins are very pretty here. It’s full-bodied, with round velvety texture and a delicious finish. Very impressive. Drink or hold." (07/2014) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm tannins, but also ripe, sweet fruits, with a fine balance. While the wine is on the light, fresh side, it does have a good, final structure. (RV)" (04/2010) Jancis Robinson: "Rich dark plum fruit but also meaty and savoury - a wine with attitude. Smooth and pretty dense, just about fresh. Drink 2014-2023. (JH)" (10/2011) ...

1999 Lestage Simon, Haut-Médoc

Cha^teau Lestage Simon is a lovely embodiment of a Cru Bourgeois. Located at Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, which is beside the great vineyard of Saint-Este`phe, this profits from an outstanding terroir which is complex and diverse, and whose uniqueness is the basis of the chateau’s wines. The situation of the vines vary considerably. Some grapes derive from sandy soils along the riverbank, others from limestone and clay-limestone soils further inland. The Cha^teau produces a supple Haut-Me´doc, whose structure, richness, and balance create excellent cellari ...

2014 Tercero "Camp 4 Vineyard" Santa Ynez Valley Marsanne

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Marsanne is my favorite of these recent or forthcoming releases from Tercero, and anyone who loves the great whites of the Northern Rhône is going to want to seek this out. The wine opens in the glass with a lovely bouquet of buttered apples, toasted macadamia nuts, smoke, honeycomb and a touch of leesiness that takes some time to unwind. On the palate, it's full-bodied, very concentrated and deep, with chewy extract and a wonderful savory quality, concluding with a long and penetrating finish. Not only ...

Drinking Window 2018 - 2026 (panel tasting)" (02/2017) K&L Notes: The Bedouet domaine began in 1899 with Henri Bedouet, who was both a cooper and a vigneron. Today, Henri’s grandson Michel farms the family vineyards organically.

2009 Verdignan, Haut-Médoc

92 points James Suckling: "Classy red here with currants, blueberries and mahogany aromas. Full body, chewy tannins and a long finish. Intense and powerful. " (07/2014) Wine Spectator: "Taut and racy, with a delicious beam of linzer torte, dried black currant and roasted fig flavors, all laced with tobacco leaf and espresso notes. The solid, racy finish shows nice length and cut. (JM, Web Only-2012)" K&L Notes: Situated near Pauillac, these vineyards are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cab Franc. 92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Tight and mineral, this is a strongly herbaceous wine. It is taut, nervy and very fresh, while also having a rich underlying character. It needs to age." (04/2014) 93 points James Suckling: "A white with so much white peach, stones and minerals as well as a waxy character. Medium to full body with fresh acidity and a long and flavorful finish. Linear and racy. Focused finish. Drink now." (02/2016) 89-92 points Vinous: "Pale straw-green. Lively aromas of lemon, lime, minerals and white flowers. Bright and pure in the mou ...

2007 La Prade, Côtes de Francs

Wine Spectator: "Aromas of licorice, tar and some blackberry lead to a medium body, with light tannins and a fruity, delicate finish. (Web Only—2010) " K&L Notes: Château La Prade, just four-and-a-half hectares, was purchased by the Thienpont family in 2000. Despite the tiny size, part of the vineyards are on the limestone plateau and the rest on a south-facing slope rich in iron. This somewhat unique terroir results in a rich Merlot-dominated blend with great structure. We tasted this wine on our April 2014 Bordeaux trip and bought it on the spot. Deli ...

2004 Château Tirecul la Gravière "Cuvée Chateau" Monbazillac (500ml) (Elsewhere $30)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tirecul’s sweet and decadent 2004 Cuvee Chateau exhibits apricot/peach marmalade, creme brulee and maple syrup aromas and flavors in a full-bodied, unctuous, but well-balanced, pure style. This dessert wine is already remarkably evolved, and should drink well for another 10-15 years - good luck deferring your gratification! As always, this wine is a sensational value. (RP)" (06/2014) K&L Notes: Just a little south of Sauternes lies the region of Monbazillac not far from the town of Bergerac. Similar in fashion ...

2012 Can Mayol Loxarel "Reserva Familiar" Brut Nature Classic Penedes

Jancis Robinson: "Light aromas of fresh pear, dry and crisp and finely fresh. Relatively straightforward. 16.5/20 points. (JH)" (02/2017) K&L Notes: Can Mayol, which bottles under the trademarked name "Loxarel," is a winery that has farmed organically for 15 years. The Mitjan family, owners of Can Mayol, also employ some biodynamic treatments. They keep animals, including chickens, a horse, and a donkey named Garnatxa. 2014 Charles Baur "Brand" Riesling Grand Cru

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lemon oil and chamomile tincture create a lifted, ethereal nose, preceding richer notions of dried pear and apple. The dry palate reveals concentration and a fluidity that has something balm-like about it. The lemon freshness at the core stays arrow-like and darts across the palate in exciting fashion in a counterpoint to the rich fruit notes. The joy of Riesling is right here. Drink now through 2030.(AK)" (11/2018) Vinous: "Vivid straw-yellow. Fresh aromas of white stone fruit, lemon verbena and chamomile. More linear, citr ...

2014 Domaine Dugois Savagnin Arbois (Sous Voile)

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought 2 hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wines ...

2013 Presqu'ile Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

The 2013 is pale gold in color with aromas of stone fruit and pineapple. On the palate the wine has substance and is supported by a pleasant acidity. The flavors reflect fresh pear and white peach along with fuji apple. The finish is long and substantial. After hand sorting and a gentle whole cluster press, the wine was allowed to cold settle overnight before fermentation commenced in barrel. (20% new French, 80% neutral French.) The wine remained in barrel, sur-lie until bottling. Total elevage was 12 months.

There is a very dense dusty texture along with fine acidity and final blackberry fruit. It is for aging over the next 4-5 years. (RV)" (02/2012) Wine Spectator: "This has a nice warm feel, with plush roasted coffee bean, steeped plum and fig fruit flavors melding through the tobacco-filled finish. Drink now through 2017. 2013 Conundrum White Blend

Maybe they should rename this wine 'Simply Yum,' since it's hardly a conundrum anymore. Once again a blend of popular and esoteric white grapes (including in no special order: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier and Muscat), this a quintessential sipper offering copious amounts of ripe, silky fruit, tropical in nature, along with vanilla notes, honeysuckle and melon.

At the same time over the ripe structure there is a layer of lively lemon, spice and ginger, spiked with fresh tangerines. The end result is smooth, balanced and vibrant." (03/09) 90 points Stephen Tanzer: "Bright yellow-gold. Good citrus zest lift to the aromas of apricot, orange peel, marzipan and honey. Drink now through 2012." (06/07) 91 points from Robert Parker: "The whites start with the 2006 Eroica Riesling made in collaboration with the Dr. Loosen estate in Germany’s Mosel region. 2005 Chateau Ste. Michelle "Ethos" Late Harvest Riesling Columbia Valley 375ml

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Dec 07: "($39; for 375 ml.) Bright, pale gold with a green tinge. Slightly high-toned, musky aromas of honeycomb, caraway seed and mace. Fat, thick and very sweet, but with good acidity framing the very rich flavors of ripe peach, caraway seed and honey.
