2009 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Dilection" Brut Rosé Champagne (Previously $80) (Previously $80)
Top Pick!
Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750, and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2009 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the finish, which lingers.

Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer that we import, or even carry from Champagne at just 7.5 acres. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to negociants--his production is just one thousand cases a year total. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and this hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and although small, it is diverse. He farms 22 plots in eight different villages. Among these are the oldest vines that I hav...

This small, all estate grown Champagne is sourced from only one vineyard, the Clos Boursault, an ancient walled vineyard just west of Epernay on the Marne. They make only a tiny amount of vintage at Le Gallais, and we only received 36 bottles of this wine. It is a blend of half each Pinot Noir and Meunier from old vines on the property dosed at just 4 grams per liter. It doesn't need more than that, as this is a real 2009, with ripe power to spare. If you like powerful Champagne, this clean machine is loaded with structure. The texture is supple, the bea...

2009 Dérot-Delugny Millesime Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
This 30-acre estate only keeps one third of their production for making their own Champagne, selling off the rest of their fruit. They are the oldest grower-producer in their village; they have been estate-bottling Champagne since 1929, and they’ve been growing grapes longer than written records go back. Everything is aged in a hillside cellar that is over 50 feet deep at the back. This ten-year-old vintage Champagne is a blanc de noirs, composed of half each Pinot Noir and Meunier from the oldest vines on the estate. It has a wonderful sourdough toast n...

From the producer: "Champagne Fluteau, established in 1935, is one of the oldest family owned and operated wineries in the Aube region of Champagne making estate grown and produced champagnes. Now being run by Thierry and Jennifer Fluteau, representing the fourth generation of the family, whom together with their son, Jeremy, share a desire to make premium, hand crafted champagnes that reflect the unique soils and climate of their Cote de Bars property. Emphasis is placed on quality, combining the traditional know-how inherited from their ancestors with ...

A mix of Chardonnay and local variety Rumeni Plavec makes for one of the most interesting sparkling wines we've had in some time. The primary fermentation is done all with native yeasts in stainless. Then wine then undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle and is aged sur latte for several years before disgorgement and release. *Natural Wine*

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "With fruit from the Côte des Blancs, this is a classic, textured, mineral-driven Chardonnay Champagne. Its bottle age gives a toasty edge to the crisp, lively grapefruit and bitter orange flavors. Well balanced, this impressive wine is still likely to improve with aging. Drink now, but, better, wait until 2020. (RV)" (08/2018) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Let it breathe a few minutes in the glass and Pol Roger's 2009 Brut Blanc de Blancs becomes truly exciting! Sourced in Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize and Oger ...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Aromatic pastry dough, crème de cassis, apple blossom and graphite notes are well-meshed in this elegant Champagne. The delicate mousse swathes the finely wrought acidic frame in a creamy texture, carrying accents of chalky mineral and lemon pith on the lingering finish. Disgorged April 2018. (AN)" (12/2019)

94 points James Suckling: "The clarity of chalk and white almond is striking. Gentle perfume with some light cherry fruits, peach, grapefruit and lemon citrus. The palate has a piercing burst of lemon and grapefruit flavor on the front and builds into gently biscuity and more savory flavors through the middle. Holds on to bright zesty acidity into the finish. Smooth, resolved and balanced. Really detailed. " (10/2016) 94 points Vinous: "Roederer's 2009 Brut Nature is compelling. Powerful, ample and creamy, the 2009 has more than enough natural richness...

96 points Vinous: "The 2009 Clos des Goisses has been very tight in two recent tastings, which is probably a very good thing for its long-term prospects, but less so for readers seeking the immediacy that is common in so many 2009 Champagnes. White flowers, orchard fruit, mint white pepper and citrus peel add to the wine’s bright profile. Readers should plan on being extremely patient, as the 2009 Goisses does not show much, if any, early appeal, even if the density and textural persistence of the great years are both there. The 2009 is 61% Pinot Noir an...
