Launois "Cuvée Reserve" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
This 100% estate grown, Grand Cru blanc de blancs is made entirely with old Chardonnay selections from Mesnil, Cramant, and Oger. This is our number one most re-purchased Champagne, and it is often sold out!
Price: $34.99

The Veuve Clemence gets four years of aging on the lees to the Reserve's three, and comes from older vineyards. They are both entirely estate-grown, Grand Cru Chardonnay. Before now, this cuvée was only available for the French market, but because of our great relationship with Launois, we were able to convince them to sell us a little. If you like it, don't hesitate--they may not have more for us the next time I order. While the wine certainly has mid-palate power, it is a dry, serious Champagne that loves to be paired with shellfish and is a wonder wit...

Launois "Quartz" Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
The Quartz all comes from the famous Chettilons parcel and has four atmospheres (59 psi) of pressure instead of the normal six (88 psi). While I would be hard pressed to tell by looking at or tasting this Champagne that it has lighter carbonation, it tastes very different from the Reserve due to the wonderful vineyard site. Since less yeast and sugar were added to the wine during bottling, it has less leesy flavor, and because there is less dissolved carbon dioxide in the wine the flavors of the grapes underneath shine more. Look for flavors of apple and...

This exotic, all-Mesnil Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is made in oak barrels coopered from oak grown in Mesnil. It is named after Severine Launois, the current generation making the wines. We were only able to secure five cases of this!

Franck Bonville Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
90 points Wine Spectator: "Lightly floral, this creamy crowd-pleasing Champagne shows good balance, with a lively mix of Honeycrisp apple, passion fruit and smoked almond. (AN)" (12/2015) Jancis Robinson: "100% Chardonnay from Oger, Cramant, and Avize. From a 50-ha estate. Olivier Bonville is the third generation to make wine here. Super-clean fresh nose, smells like a health scrub. Vigorous mousse. Crisp edges and a creamy middle, streaked with verbena. More green than lemon, and just slightly sour. Quite weighty and substantial yet with a cutting ed...

Alexandre le Brun is a young, ninth generation winemaker in Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. We were very pleased to meet him and are very excited to carry his wines.

2007 Thiénot "Black Ball" Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne (Previously $120) (Previously $120)
Top Pick!
Absolutely incredible opportunity on this creamy, supple Blanc de Blancs that still has great focus and precision and superior, long, mineral finish. Like all of the Thienot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly 70 acres of vines. From the winery: "In 1985 Alain Thiénot launched his eponymous Champagne House, driven by his experience as a courtier and close-knit relationships with Champagne growers. This was quite a challenge in a sector where the greatest names began their existence as early as the 18th century. ...

2012 Launois Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
The Underground Wine Letter says it best: "Launois Champagne was founded in 1872. Today, the Launois family owns nearly 46 acres of vineyards mostly in the Grand Cru village of Mesnil. All Launois Champagnes are Blanc de Blancs and all are Grand Cru. This producer consistently makes some of the very best Blanc de Blancs Champagnes, and the quality/price ratio is exceptional. This is a must visit if you are in Champagne, not only for the fabulous Champagne, but to visit Bernard Launois's private museum. It encompasses a large portion of the Mesnil villag...

Philippe Gonet "3210" Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
94 points Vinous: "Gonet's NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs 3210 is striking in its beauty. A layered, beautifully textured wine, the 3210 stands out for its pure class. The classic Mesnil Chardonnay and chalk notes are totally alive in a broad, large-scaled Champagne loaded with class and pedigree. The no dosage style works beautifully here. The 3210 is a blend of fruit from Mesnil and Montgueux (in the Aube), two very different but highly complementary terroirs. (AG)" (11/2013) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A subtle thread of ground cardamom and clove spic...

The Bonville family owns 50 acres of Grand Cru vineyards and uses exclusively estate fruit in this wine. This Champagne is a great example of how much more wine you get for less money compared to a big name non-vintage Champagne when the export brokers, import companies and distributors are taken out of the deal. This is 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from Avize, Oger and Cramant and one hell of a wine. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

The Ariston's vineyards are vastly different than those of the other blanc de blancs producers that we carry. The steeper slopes, less chalk and more fossils in the soil of Brouillet make for a rich, creamy style Chardonnay Champagne that will appeal to just about anyone. This is one of my favorite toasting Champagnes. All of the flavors are up-front and it's open-knit and fun. It is a perfect way to start a party. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

Boulard-Bauquaire "Trepail" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Vieilles Vignes
Top Pick!
This Champagne comes from one plot of 70-year-old Chardonnay vines in the Montagne of Reims village of Trepail. It is aged for three years on the lees. The Champagne has a chalky, creamy, bready nose, and a concentrated impression on the palate. As one would expect from such ancient vines, it delivers the goods on the finish with plenty of chalk as well as a bit of honey and white fruit. This makes a perfect aperitif, but will also pair well with seafood such as seared scallops or even raw oysters. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
Price: $39.99

91 points Wine Spectator: "Richly spiced, with ground anise, clove, ginger and cardamom, this offers a lively bead, fresh acidity and flavors of quince, honey, pastry dough and golden raisin. Offers a soft, creamy finish. (AN)" (12/2012) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This has finesse and elegance, with a thin stream of bubbles and crisp, dry apple flavor. It is taut with a cool feel. (RV)" (12/2012) K&L Notes: This is one of the best Champagnes we carry, regardless of price. Made from the one-and-three-quarters-acre Belles Voyes vineyard in Oger, this ...

This great bottle comes from the far northern edge of Champagne in the Massif St-Thierry, north of Reims. All of the vines for this 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Meunier cuvée come from Cormincy, the last village in Champagne before the flats facing out towards the Ardennes. As one would expect from a Blanc de Noir, this is a full-bodied wine with plenty of savory red fruit flavor. Due to its far northern provenance, this Champagne also has great snap and refreshment to balance out its power. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Denois’s non-vintage Chardonnay Brut Blanc de Blancs. Legally, this “traditional method” wine is merely a vin mousseux, yet it is in fact a tribute to the terroir of Limoux (whose sparkling wine appellation must be based on the local Blanquette de Limoux a.k.a. Mauzac grape, for which Denois evidently has little respect). It will be hard to find a more delicious and interesting sparkling wine for the price. Ripe apricot, grapefruit, blueberries, and lily in the nose lead to an intensely pit-fruited palate that – despite a ...

Courtois Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
This all-estate Blanc de Blancs comes from the western edge of Champagne in Crouttes-sur-Marne. Here the soil is a mixture of limestone, clay and chalk and give rich wines with plenty of weight. This wine is very full bodied, even grassouillette, making it perfect for an end of winter aperitif. It will also go very well with all manner of savory pastries and pâté. The wine itself is loaded with buttery brioche and comes across decadently loaded with toast. The best thing about the wine is how focused and fresh it is on the finish- this is dry and long wi...

Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, YES! There will be those of you who scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low will never be worth any serious consideration. Well, those of you would be WRONG. One of the rising stars of the Languedoc, Jean-Louis Denois makes exciting, world class wines that nonetheless remain amazingly inexpensive, owing to his location more than anything else. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and he produ...

All Mesnil grand cru bargain!!!! This wine comes from all estate-grown fruit in the grand cru of Mesnil. It is a very clean wine with pure flavors and a complex, subtle nose. This rosé is 100% Pinot Noir, and all of the skins are kept in contact with all of the juice for about two days for maximum color and flavor. This is full bodied rosé, perfect for a first course of smoked salmon, or even a main course of the same fish grilled. If you are patient with this wine, and let it warm up a little bit after opening it, you may be surprised at how much depth and complexity it has. Don't let the initial exuberant fruit fool you--there is a lot behind this dry rosé!

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is the first sparkling wine from Rhys vineyard. From the Bearwallow vineyard and made using the traditional method, the 2015 Blanc de Blancs opens a touch rubbery on the nose, with a core of bruised apples, mushroom, hay and pastry notes from its 30 months tirage (this bottle was disgorged in July 2019). The palate is medium-bodied and dry with finely beaded mousse and savory/toasty character, finishing with just enough freshness. (EB)" (02/2020)

100 points James Suckling: "From a one-hectare parcel of Pinot Noir, planted in 1964. This makes such a striking impression with incredible freshness and purity, married with such intensity and length. The aromas of fresh, toasted almond are striking. Fresh forest mushrooms, too. The palate has intensity that is truly bracing and delivers such power and length. Exceptional! Drink or hold." A particularly rare California sparkling wine produced by Don Baumhefner who had been inspired by late disgorged Bollinger to let his wines rest "en tirage" for years. The San Francisco Chronicle's Esther Mobley fell in love with Baumhefner's 1992 and was excited to report in December 2017 that he had released another wine he discovered in Lake County that had come from a vineyard in Carneros. Mobley writes: "The 2010 Blanc de Blancs smells heady, wafting sweet bread dough. It’s rich, nutty and creamy, and more direct than Baumhefner’s 1990 and 1992 vint...

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An elegant, pure and airy nose combines notes of citrus peel, soft yeast and plenty of green apple, pear and petrol scents. There is excellent intensity to the crisp, intense and focused flavors that terminate in a very dry and linear finish. As is almost always the case with Vilmart wines, the supporting effervescence is quite fine and overall, this could be enjoyed young or easily held for another 5 to 7 years depending on your preferences." Fine and tight bead give the Champagne a luxurious mouthfeel. One for now or the cellar. Drink or hold. 98 points Vinous: "One of the highlights of this important Champagne vintage, Philipponnat's 2008 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses is fabulous. Rich, ample and yet also full of the tension that makes the Champagnes of this year so appealing, the 2008 Goisses is crystalline and incredibly pure. Clos des Goisses has a track record of aging brilliantly for decades. Even knowing that, I am surprised by how harmonious the 2008 is at this early stage in its life. Yes, there is plenty of youthful austerity, but at the same time, the 2008 is remarkably poised and has...

The power and richness of Goisses is there, but in the background. It will be many years before the 2007 blossoms into a complete, fully expressive Champagne. Even so, it is striking today. With time, hints of lemon confit, chamomile and marzipan develop in the glass, but readers will have to cellar the 2007 for at least five years, maybe more, to get the full Goisses experience. A large-scaled Cristal, the 1990 combines size with clarity and focus in a remarkably complete style that recalls the 1982. The wine remains generous on the palate, with stunning length and a finish that lasts forever. The 1990 Cristal is 62% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay.
