91 points Wine Spectator: "Richly spiced, with ground anise, clove, ginger and cardamom, this offers a lively bead, fresh acidity and flavors of quince, honey, pastry dough and golden raisin. Offers a soft, creamy finish. (AN)" (12/2012) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This has finesse and elegance, with a thin stream of bubbles and crisp, dry apple flavor. It is taut with a cool feel, still young in the bottle and worth aging a year. (RV)" (12/2012) K&L Notes: This is one of the best Champagnes we carry regardless of price. Made from the one-and-three-q...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is the first sparkling wine from Rhys vineyard. From the Bearwallow vineyard and made using the traditional method, the 2015 Blanc de Blancs opens a touch rubbery on the nose, with a core of bruised apples, mushroom, hay and pastry notes from its 30 months tirage (this bottle was disgorged in July 2019). The palate is medium-bodied and dry with finely beaded mousse and savory/toasty character, finishing with just enough freshness. (EB)" (02/2020)

98 points James Suckling: "This is a step up from the linear and fresh 2006. It shows subtle depth and power with a dense block of vivid fruit that's highlighted with lemon zest, green apples and hints of white peaches. Just the right amount of praline and nuts on the nose. Fine and tight bead give the Champagne a luxurious mouthfeel. One for now or the cellar. Drink or hold. " (12/2018) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Always one of the great Champagnes, this comes from a year that is generally regarded as good but not great. And yet, with this Champagne i...

One of the most exciting wine projects in California today happens to be an upstart garagiste with an obsession for redefining sparkling wine in America. Michael Cruse operates from a small industrial park in Petaluma just off the bustling Highway 101 corridor. After a brief career in molecular and cell biology laboratories, Cruse worked his first harvest in 2006. After learning about the meticulous, labor-intensive process of producing artisanal grower Champagne, he became convinced that if winemakers applied the same approach to sparkling wine in Calif...

95 points Vinous: "The 2007 Clos des Goisses is gorgeous. Almost shockingly finessed and light on its feet for Goisses, the 2007 is a wine of superb elegance. The power and richness of Goisses is there, but in the background. It will be many years before the 2007 blossoms into a complete, fully expressive Champagne. Even so, it is striking today. With time, hints of lemon confit, chamomile and marzipan develop in the glass, but readers will have to cellar the 2007 for at least five years, maybe more, to get the full Goisses experience. (AG)" (07/2017) ...

95 points James Suckling: "A truly special site, this is a majestic Champagne that has superb darker notes of brulée, roasted almonds and lightly spiced caramel, plus blue fruit aromas, cassis and mineral flecked earth. The palate's really rich and structurally powerful; it has a long and chiseled shape that drives deep and long. Powerful yet supple and curvaceous, seductive texture. A great Champagne." (07/2015) 94 points Vinous: "Not surprisingly, the 2005 Clos des Goisses is still very much a baby. At once dense yet also compact, the 2005 has almost...

91 points Vinous: "The 2013 Blanc de Blancs Charles Heintz Vineyard is pure, brisk and wonderfully nuanced. In this vintage, the Blanc de Blancs is quite open and sensual, with slight, tropically-leaning inflections. Above all else, the Blanc de Blancs stands out for the remarkable finesse of its mousse. The natural ripeness of the year is evident in a Blanc de Blancs that is a touch more accessive in the early going than some other editions have been. Bottled with no dosage. Drink through 2023. (AG)" (04/2018) K&L Notes: This hand-riddled, disgorged, ...

Bid on this bottle of Guillaume Selosse "Au Dessus Gros Mont" Extra Brut Champagne (93JG). John Gilman: "This bottling of non-vintage Blanc de Blancs from Guillaume Selosse hails from the lieu à dit of "Au Dessus du Gros Mont” in the village of Cramant. The vines for this bottling are seventy years of age and it was disgorged in July of 2015, with a finishing dosage of 1.5 grams per liter. This is the inaugural release of the wine, which is from the base year of 2009, with a reserve of 2008 blended in. The wine is excellent and showing quite mature at the present time, offering up a complex nose of baked apple, walnuts, a fine base of chalky minerality, just a touch of buttery oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite classy in profile, with a fine core, excellent mineral drive, elegant mousse and a long, complex and zesty finish. This is drinking with great style now, but still has plenty of life ahead of it." (07/2019)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Salon "Le Mesnil" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (99RP, 98JS, 98VN, 97BH, 97WE, 96JG, 96W&S, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle of the 1996 Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Brut was drinking superbly and represents the apotheosis of Blanc de Blancs, unfurling over the course of three hours with a stunningly complex bouquet of citrus oil, confit lemon, dried white flowers and oyster shell, with hints of praline and pastry cream becoming more pronounced as the wine opens up in the glass. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, defined by the incisive spine so typical of the vintage that, here, is cloaked in layers of crisp fleshy and chalky extract. The finish is long, penetrating and saline. Unfortunately, since the 1996 Salon has been traded so zealously over the last decade, finding a bottle that hasn't travelled too far can be a challenge. But from a perfectly stored bottle, this is just the beginning. (WK)

96 points Vinous: "The 2006 Clos des Goisses is stellar, but it is also going to need quite a bit of time to come into its own. Powerful and ample in the best of the Goisses style, the 2006 hits the palate with serious intensity. Orchard fruits, lemon oil, white flowers and almonds are some of the many notes that open up in the glass, but, as is often the case with young Goisses, it is the wine's gravitas that is front and center. Even with all of its overtness, though, the 2006 retains striking, crystalline purity. I imagine the 2006 will reward Champag...

Bid on this bottle of 1979 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (99VN, 97RP, 94JG). Vinous: "This vertical of 1970s Cristals opens with the 1979, a Champagne I have been fortunate to taste and drink on several occasions. When the 1979 is on, it is an astonishingly beautiful wine, as it is on this evening. A rush of aromatics makes a strong first impression. Vivid and totally arresting, the 1979 possesses remarkable depth and sheer vinosity. Hints of caramel, orange peel, spice and cinnamon give the wine a decidedly exotic flair. Over the last few years, the 1979 has lost a bit of the freshness it showed as recently as a few years ago, but it is nevertheless a stunning bottle. The wine’s textural silkiness and finessed mousse reinforce an impression of sublime elegance. The 1979 is utterly spellbinding. It is also the most elegant wine in this tasting. One of the all-time great vintages, the late-ripening 1979 produced a crop of striking Champagnes that have aged impeccably. Cristal

98 points Vinous: "One of the highlights of this important Champagne vintage, Philipponnat's 2008 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses is fabulous. Rich, ample and yet also full of the tension that makes the Champagnes of this year so appealing, the 2008 Goisses is crystalline and incredibly pure. Clos des Goisses has a track record of aging brilliantly for decades. Even knowing that, I am surprised by how harmonious the 2008 is at this early stage in its life. Yes, there is plenty of youthful austerity, but at the same time, the 2008 is remarkably poised and has...
