Having been born in Rio de Janeiro into a very proud French/Portuguese family, and living in France and the USA for almost 25 years, gave me the best of all worlds, one very old, and another very new. I’ve always had three different perspectives on everything growing up, three different opportunities to understand the world around me and to try to make sense of it all. From Ipanema Beach, to the bluest of seas in the Côte d'Azur and Nice, to the wonderful Big Sur. Caipirinha and Feijoada, codfish and Vinho Verde, Daube and Bandol, and the always present Rosé, and…beer for those 110 degree summertime days in Rio! I always worked in the food business, in Paris, Nice and San Francisco. While working at Jules Verne in Paris, I decided to devote my career solely to wines and eventually got my Sommelier certification through the International Sommelier Guild.

2016 Puy-Blanquet, St-Emilion
Review Date: 03-09-2020
Full of dark cherries and chocolate, with a noticeable note of fresh tobacco. Medium tannins, and a good acidity to balance the fruit. Rich and full bodied, but still easy to drink and a no brainer for a couple of cases or more!

2018 Angeline California Pinot Noir
Review Date: 03-09-2020
Very classic Pinot. California for sure, with strawberry, cherry and vanilla, but also, coffee, and nice spices.

2016 l'Avocat Rouge, Graves
Review Date: 03-02-2020
This wine showcases not only its appellation but the vintage as well. It is approachable, but a passage through the decanter will round it up. Cassis, brown sugar, and loads of minerality framed by firm but not at all harsh tannins. A wine to dress up any dinner.

2015 Ducluzeau, Listrac
Review Date: 03-02-2020
A very pretty wine, that is a pleasure to drink it right now. It is fruity but still has tannins framing it. A perfect paring with cold lamb or a roast beef sandwich,

2015 Roland la Garde Tradition, Premières Côtes de Blaye
Review Date: 03-02-2020
From an appellation better known for its simple, easy-drinking wines, the 2015 Roland la Garde shows an unparalleled level of complexity. Still quite approachable, with loads of chocolate covered cherries flavors along, plums, ganache and an elegant earthiness. It is shinning right now.

2017 La Monacesca Verdicchio di Matelica
Review Date: 02-17-2020
This is the kind of wine I would wholeheartedly recommend. A beautiful pale lemony color greets you, followed by a peppery nose full of citron, grapefruit and Granny Smith apples and a whiff of dried herbs. Very intriguing palate indeed; a slight prickling on the tongue due to its incredible crispness and a touch of almond skin. It is like biting on a juicy green apple. This wine begs for seafood, risotto, lasagna bianca, fettuccine alfredo or pasta primavera.

2019 Fromm Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Review Date: 02-17-2020
A very pleasing, classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, that hits all the right notes one expects from New Zealand. But there's more to it, far from being over the top with the tropical and grassy notes, it actually shows a bit of welcoming (for me) elegant restrain. I had it with classic English fish and chips and it was absolutely delicious!

2016 Amici Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 02-17-2020
Full throttle with plenty of cocoa, coffee, creme de cassis and vanilla. A wine that keeps its balance and elegance and shows quite nicely right now.

2018 Olema Sonoma County Chardonnay
Review Date: 02-17-2020
Very easygoing Chardonnay, lots of pineapple, citrus and even a touch a clove spices. An easy choice for a big event.

2017 Mullineux "Old Vine" White Blend Swartland South Africa
Review Date: 02-17-2020
This is a perfect example of a wine that at first can be quite unassuming but ends with a very satisfying finish. In between it slowly shows these most beautiful notes of quince, honey, yellow peaches, and a flinty minerality. It has had skin contact I've been told, and it shows on the creamy, honeyed palate. I found it irresistible and quite difficult not to go for another glass... and another.

2010 Château Musar Blanc Bekaa Valley Lebanon
Review Date: 02-17-2020
Let me start by saying this is not your everyday white wine. It is very much a connoisseur kind of wine. It resembles sherry and I treated it as such. So I served it to accompany a platter of Manchego cheese, olives, chorizo, pita etc... It was perfect.

2015 Grand Mayne, St-Emilion
Review Date: 01-13-2020
A very silky wine, with exquisite aromas of cocoa powder, cherry liquor, blackberries, along with woodsy, clove and vanilla notes. This is a superb wine, and will age beautifully. Decant it for an hour if you want to enjoy this beauty now.

1997 Gaudin, Pauillac
Review Date: 01-02-2020
There is something about this small producer’s wines (they have just four hectares) that I find very appealing. This is for the lovers of an old-school style, showing some leather notes, along with plums, and a firm structure—it is indeed a Pauillac, and to be enjoyed now, as it has aged superbly. I would say, a quick decanting, and the wine is ready for the table. A simple dish of grilled lamb chops, perhaps with a Bordelaise sauce with some mushrooms, and you will have a match made in heaven!

2017 Domaine des Rémizières "Cuvée Christophe" Crozes-Hermitage
Review Date: 11-11-2019
A very classic Northern Rhône Syrah with its characteristic violets, vanila and meat aromatics, along with blood orange and white pepper. Very good wine to pair with all kinds of stews and Indian food as well.

2016 Duo de Conseillante, Pomerol
Review Date: 11-04-2019
Beautiful floral nose that carries through the gentle palate. It's an accessible wine that is sure to please from the get go, meaning you can drink it now, but you can put it away too for future pleasure.

2016 Antech "Cuvée Eugenie" Cremant de Limoux (1.5L)
Review Date: 10-21-2019
Most definitely one of the best deals in bubbles outside of Champagne. With an intriguing balance between richness and delicacy, this is lemony and honeyed but perfectly Brut. Pair it with any creamy fish dishes, blinis, fondue, banana-based desserts, carrot cake, or just as an aperitif watching the sun setting over the Pacific!

2016 Schramsberg North Coast Blanc de Blancs Brut Sparkling Wine
Review Date: 10-21-2019
To best describe this wine to you I have to tell you a little secret... I mistook this bottle for Champagne on my sommelier test (not the final exam thank God!). Now, knowing better, I should have noticed by the ripeness of the fruit that this was no Champagne, but oh it was so delicious! Toasty and briochy, with lemon notes and also some tropical fruit and exotic spices. I definitely recommend the Schramsberg.

2018 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Review Date: 10-21-2019
This certified Bio/Organic producer was all the rage in our staff tasting, with all of us agreeing how exceptional all its portfolio is. Here we have his entry level Sauvignon Blanc, which is flinty, with elegant notes of citrus fruit, along with some lemon curd, peaches and a sense of balance and elegance that distinguish itself from most of its peers.

2017 Ancient Peaks Paso Robles Zinfandel
Review Date: 10-21-2019
Have you ever heard that Zinfandels pair very well with BBQ? Although this is true, what the adage fails to take in consideration is that usually when we are doing a BBQ it is also very hot! That's when the Ancient Peaks comes into play. With all the spiciness of a Zinfandel minus the heaviness and the heat. Now I am talking about a great BBQ wine! Viva Le Summer!

2018 Eric Cottat Sancerre Rouge
Review Date: 10-21-2019
Here's a Pinot that regardless of where it is from, it is delicious - I mean, it will please all lovers of good Pinot Noir. It happens to be from France, from the beautiful Loire Valley to be more exact, and it is a classic! Gorgeous aromatics of fresh cherries, violets, cola and even a touch of vanilla. On the very soft palate, all of the above is framed by the juicy acidity and medium tannins. This wine would be absolutely perfect with vegetarian dishes, Indian cuisine, Mexican, Pizza, Peking duck, and I could go on. Very versatile. Bravo Eric Cottat!

2016 Patz & Hall Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

1999 Tour du Haut-Moulin, Haut-Médoc (1.5L)
Review Date: 09-10-2019
A perfectly aged bottle (well, actually two bottles, since it's a magnum!) of Bordeaux, that is ready to drink tonight. Classic in style, this wine will surely please those in search for that old school Bordeaux. But also, I think it is a good mature bottle that would be a perfect introduction to those wanting to know what is all about. In any case, a must try!

2017 Pierre Sparr White Blend "One" Alsace
Review Date: 09-10-2019
With beautiful floral aromatics, this blend of Muscat, Riesling, and Pinot Gris is a pleasure to drink. Very delicate on the palate, with all the floral, grapey, fresh peach notes one would expect, but none of the sweetness. It is crisp, dry, but not austere. Pair it with seafood, chicken or pork dishes. Delicious!

2016 d'Arce, Côtes de Castillon
Review Date: 08-19-2019
Another great chance to try the fantastic 2016 vintage. The d'Arce is a pleasing, juicy wine with elegant notes of coffee, cherries, plums, with very velvety tannins. Very versatile and completely drinkable from the get go.

2006 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan
Review Date: 08-19-2019
This wine must be one of our best bargain at the store right now. If not THE best one! Perfectly aged, and ready to be enjoyed, but far, far from being over its peak. The sweet fruit on the palate is the icing on the cake of a wine layered with exquisite classic aged Claret notes. Aromatic cedar, leather and smoke, olives and earth. This bottle would transform the most mundane of meals in a feast fit for a king. I really liked this one.

2016 Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc
Review Date: 08-19-2019
Showing strong Cabernet characteristic, with notes of ripe berries and currents, along with an intriguing note of menthol. This is a tremendous value that should not be missed by those looking to buy some cases of a quality wine to drink within the next 5 or 10 years.

2015 Baron de Brane, Margaux
Review Date: 08-19-2019
The second wine of the prestigious Margaux producer Brane-Cantenac, is a text-book perfect example of what a Margaux should be, floral with notes of violets, as well as lifted aromatics of raspberries, strawberries and cedar. Very elegant indeed.

2017 The Fableist Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 07-15-2019
All round delicious wine with its notes of vanilla, red current, plums and some exotic wood spices. A Cabernet that is utterly pleasing, and would be as comfortable on the table, with a juicy steak or as a solo wine glass coming home from a hard day at work.

Patrick Bottex "La Cueille" Bugey Cerdon Rosé (Méthode Ancéstrale)
Review Date: 06-03-2019
Fun, fun and more fun! Here’s a wine bursting with raspberries and bright red apples. Very light in alcohol (8%) and full of bubbles. Rosé from gamay and the very indigenous "poulsard" . For me this wine is picture perfect for Thanksgiving— the last thing I would want is a heavy and cumbersome wine for this late afternoon dinner. Instead this is a light, refreshing, food-friendly wine, with just enough residual sugar to pair just about perfectly with turkey, cranberry and everything that goes with it. And it doesn’t give me a headache! I could give this wine nothing less than 5 stars for what it is!

2009 Guiraud, Sauternes
Review Date: 05-06-2019
The 2009 is showing more richness, more power, and an incredible array of exotic flavors and spices: cinnamon, apples, and very creamy textured. For sure we will be talking about this wine 50 years from now.

2015 Lamouroux Rouge, Graves
Review Date: 04-08-2019

2000 Clos du Marquis, St-Julien
Review Date: 01-06-2019
To this day some consumers still think of Clos du Marquis as the second wine of the prestigious Léoville Las Cases. It is not. It is made from grapes that come from this specific “Clos” within the estate of Léoville Las Cases, but with a different terroir. It is what we like to call, old-school, which means lots of spices, pronounced tannins, and a lovely touch of meaty leather. I would suggest decanting this old classic 2000 wine for a couple of hours – at least.

2009 Grand-Puy-Ducasse, Pauillac
Review Date: 09-24-2018
The Grand-Puy-Ducasse is very much a classic Pauillac with its masculine edged Cabernet Sauvignon. It still quite young and it needs a good amount of time in the cellar, however, the beautiful notes of cedar, cigar box are already showing. A promising wine, that needs to be stored and enjoyed for many years to come.

2015 Bois-Malot, Bordeaux Supérieur
Review Date: 08-13-2018

2000 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux
Review Date: 10-31-2016
Beautiful and elegant, with the classic Margaux notes of violets and coffee, along with bright notes of red fruit as well. It is developing beautifully and showing notes of forest floor, with very soft tannins, lending to a more rounded structure. I would say this wine would be a perfect bottle for a very fancy dinner.

2010 Bel-Orme Tronquoy de Lalande, Haut-Médoc

2013 Carbonnieux Blanc, Pessac-Léognan
Review Date: 07-25-2016
A very classic Bordeaux Blanc in the sense of having a a more complex roundness along with the juicy acidity. Perhaps it is the Semillon (25%) on the blend that imparts these notes. Citrous and peaches. A very pleasing white wine for the table as well as for the porch!

Fleury Blanc de Noirs Brut Champagne

Fascinating nose of caramel, toffee, some cocoa powder and a surprising whiff of pain-au-chocolat and cherries that brought back memories of a breakfast on a back street cafe around the Champs Elysées. A great wine not only for a very elegant apéritif, but also to enjoy with omelets, eggs Benedict, anything salmon, truffles (black and white), lobster and prawns, or even blue or goat cheeses.
